Thanks for the video! Excellent info. Two questions for you. 1. If no modification is done, e.i. Completely stock; how long will it last in comparison to the modification outlined in your video? 2. “Breaking clutch plates” - could you elaborate? If a plate(s) breaks, how would that transpire while riding? My assumption would be constant slippage and an inability for the clutch to bite. It should not seize the bottom end due to binding, right?

The difference in wear is completely dependent on your clutch usage. For me, either setup could be ran for over 40 hours with no problems, but I'm very light on the clutch. As for breaking the plates, the fiber plates can break...sometimes they stay in place and cause slippage and sometimes they shatter and spit pieces out...which can spread through the motor.

I have broken plates in a yz 250 (2 stroke) before and never realized it until my next oil change, although once I seen that they were broken I did recall one shift coming out of a corner and hard on the gas that sounded odd. Thought nothing of as it I finished the race and another afterwards with no issues. I did have to flush a couple liters of oil through the bike though just to get out the remaining debris that got ground up in the transmission. Might be a bigger issue with a 4 stroke however, seeing as the oil is pumped throughout the cylinder head and the crank shaft area.

I have a 2019 kx450 for my snowbike and I just got it to 40 hours and the stock clutch melted and just came out in pieces. A dead snowbike is VERY difficult to get out of the Backcountry so I'll just have to change my plate more often I guess. Ain't no KTM clutch.

Man I just got a 2020 kx450 and I been riding all summer but I was riding yesterday my clutch wasn't disengaging all the way did I fry my clutch already

Mine also. Funny thing is that the slave cylinder can be pressed in by hand as if there's air in the line. Gonna rebuild the master cylinder first then move to disks and steels

Do you think the Rekluse Auto clutch would work well in this bike?

Paul Geoghegan depends on application. I’m not a huge fan of them for Moto but off-road sure. They usually give off a heavier flywheel effect.

Hi Michael, I have the part but have not made this swap yet because I have Pro Circuit clutch springs on my bike. Would you do the swap anyways?

Marco Ameglio it would have a similar effect even with the aftermarket clutch springs.

I know this doesn’t fully pertain to a 2021 kx250 but I think they have the same clutch in it, my bike all of a sudden has a lack of power and feels like the clutch is slipping. Do you think this mod would help? Not many people know much about these hydro clutches so any input would help. Thanks man

Did u ever figure out your problem? My 2021 kx250 is having the same problem as yours! Lacking power and clutch feels like it’s slipping. Haven’t tore into the clutch to replace yet. Plz Lmk!

bwhaskell Rekluse and Hinson complete clutches do away with the jutter on the KX unless you re-use the stock parts. As for Tomac’s bike, I heard they were testing a diaphragm clutch like is found in the KTM 450 SX-F due to Eli’s abusive clutch nature.

@@MichaelLindsay what are your thoughts on Eli not jiving with the hydro clutch? I'm thinking the smoke we saw 2 weeks ago was a smoking clutch, contrary to what R&R were saying on the broadcast.

bwhaskell he’s always been hard on clutches, whether is cable or hydro. And yes, the breather smoke was from him frying the clutch.
