Nice job, your press build is what inspired me to build a 5 ton log splitter press. I used c channel instead of i beam, works great I make a lot of san mi haven't tried Damascus yet.

Propane, a blower, and a properly build ribbon burner, or natural gas. And if you upgrade the press, start with its power, you’ll be wanting another 5t of strength if your gonna use flattening dyes. I have a 12t hand/foot peddle press and to convert it to an auto would be a dream. Also, don’t worry about your layer count on the first Damascus billet, you did it, now it’s time to “go for broke” and do something like 1,000 layers and start it at something like 15-20 layers to start. As for mentioning 2 of the best smiths on KZbin, f yeah 😎 To anyone else reading this comment, do be careful if you try bladesmithing, it’s hot, it’s hard, it’s VERY dangerous. But all too rewarding.

Everything you just said is exactly what I want. I would really like to build a ribbon burner. Also, a 12 ton or even a 20 ton press would be the dream.

I absolutely loooooove the pattern! It's gorgeous 😍 I was already subscribed but the Skeleton almost made me want to do it again lol so cute. I am so excited to see the final product, It's going to be as amazing as the billet.

@drewdoesart9277 No brother, thank you for teaching and inspiring new bladesmiths with your videos. This is how I started. 5 years ago, I started researching blacksmithing. I watched thousands of videos like this, but few were as informative. It's because of people like you that I was able to start my craft a year ago. Information and techniques taught through these videos. I have excelled because of people like you Know you ate appreciated brother

It would be cool to build a threaded, adjustable stop to limit how far your press opens to save time. Cool video!

I thought about setting up a clamp 🗜️ on each side. To stop it from lowering too much. That might help.

First of all - nice work: good pattern, nice and tight! A suggestion from a sanitary welder: consider autogenously (no filler) TIG welding the leaves and evetually billets together in an inert atmosphere - you won't have to worry about inclusions or porosity from the MIG/Stick welding, especially if you have all the mating surfaces fully flattened and aligned.

A TIG welder is what I’d really like. One day I’ll get one. I need a lot of practice welding all together.

You’ll be building another cause even with the drawing does it will be a lot of work every time you use it You have the skills required to build say a 20 ton and smash it with full size flat dies in it You got it bro 😎

I would love to build a 20 Ton Press. My big goals are to build a heat treat oven, and build a 20 ton press. My goodness, it would be great to smash the whole billet in one go.
@azuanatoya2 күн бұрын
i had used one before, its taking to much heat and time compare to my DIY tire hammer i made.
@drewdoesart92772 күн бұрын
I thought about doing a power hammer. But I live in residential neighborhood. My neighbors would kill me lol

😬 yes. I also called the billet a blade too. Lol I didn’t catch that one though. Thank you for pointing that out.

I won't lie, when I saw the HORRIBLE job welding the plates together at the start I had 0 faith in this guy but he did it. I guess welding and forging are two different skills.
@drewdoesart92772 күн бұрын
I agree 100% welding is not my strong suit. That’s why I had a friend of mine help me weld the frame for the press. I didn’t trust myself on that part.

@@drewdoesart9277 like all things practice makes perfect bro. Keep at it! You're doing it which is more than most can say!
