Yeah I totally agree. This is not the way to cut dovetails in any project, more a curiosity if I could make it work. I like using things in non-intended ways :)

Great video, I just searched for dovetail joints with laser and your video came up. I’m about to purchase one of the two: Creality Falcon 2 22W or Two Trees TS2 20W , would you recommend any of these ? Do you think with a 20W laser I could do dovetail joints as well?

I think the Creality Falcon 2 is probably a more reliable company behind it. Yeah I think the 20W should work, it just takes more passes. Let me know how it goes!

This is really cool! I remember talking about this and thinking it was probably impossible. Those last ones look really good and I kind of like the dark line around the dovetails. Almost like a shadow line.

Yeah I am surprised that is actually worked in some decently thick wood. I would like to refine it a bit more, but think I am hit up against the wood density variability limit perhaps.

What about other materials? Plywood? Aluminum? Watermelon rinds?

For this laser, this one looks like it can do up to a half inch without severe charring as this is a diode laser. It can cut through most organic materials and laser safe plastics. For metals, it should be able to mark them if using a marking solution @@gmvader

Try putting a chemical co2 generator in the laser case.
