You can use a combination of powdered buttermilk and powdered heavy cream to make a creamer base that is much richer than powdered milk. Also to keep from getting clumps add small amounts of water to bring the cream from a paste to the consistency you want.

Great video Miranda. Here is my addition to the mocha coffee receipe that I still use today. Back in the late 90’s, I was working for a large consulting firm and always had to work Deadline Panic Hours to 2-3 in the morning. At those late hours, when the coffee had steamed down to a bitter sludge and was undrinkable I came up with a recipe that I called Cafe de Roland: 1 Swiss Miss pack of hot chocolate, fill with coffee sludge, and a melted York Peppermint patty. It became a real favorite with our team and at 2 a.m.it was a real morale booster.

That camp espresso percolator is basically a cut down version of the same coffee maker that most Italians use to make espresso in the home. It's rare to find a large espresso maker over there in somebody's kitchen, but these little mini percolators are cheap and easily available there, so everybody has them.

Once again, great channel and super fun video!! I love coffee, but when it's cold, raining (snowing), blowing -- the best I can trust myself to do is boil some water in my JetBoil and dump a couple of sleeves of Starbucks into it. And if (when) it cools down, fire up the stove, reheat. The JetBoil "pot" is my coffee cup. A bandanna is my "cozy." My only other utensil is my spoon. In the '90s I brought everything. But no more!

3:20 [silent judgement] Inverted, cap off with the plunger just barely inserted, pour in coffee grounds, then hot water, swirl cautiously for 1 min, let it brew (without it slowly dripping out), screw on cap and filter, flip onto cup like some fancy bar tender, press to perfection. More time for the hot water to release the wake up juice, slightly more bitterness, but I'm in it for the caffeine not warm brown water. A quad a day, will keep theSQUIRREL!
@nathansharp31934 жыл бұрын
Haha. Great timing. I just came up with a new word today: B-ushcraft-arista I'm out camping and have just perfected my Aeropress Go Americano at camp. I've got the temperature of the water and cleanup all figured out. At sea-level I heat my water until just a few tiny bubbles rise to the top of my pot. That gets the water to a perfect temperature for my setup. This 'temperature check' has worked well on my woodburning camp stove and on an open fire. I've also figured out that 500 mL of water is plenty to make a full Aeropress Go cup (about two normal cups) and have enough water left for rinsing everything out and brushing my teeth.

A good option for an espresso sized serve of coffee is the Wacao Minipresso, which is hand pressurised to give the extraction. Normally when hiking I will just take the aeropress though, with a hand grinder for longer hikes, or coffee ground the morning of departure for shorter trips

I like to make an all-in-one mix for reconstituting with ice cold creek water: (*) Yauco Selecto instant coffee from Puerto Rico (or instant Kona from Hawaii) (*) Valrhona 100% cocoa powder (*) Nido (or your favorite) full-fat milk powder (*) Trader Joe's coconut sugar scented with a vanilla bean or mixed with vanilla bean paste (*) cinnamon It compacts well because the sugar fits in between the coffee crystals, and the milk+cocoa powders fit between the sugar granules. I put a measure into a 1pt plastic peanut butter jar, add a measure of cold water and shake to break up lumps, then add the rest of the water and shake. As long as the water is very cold, or you then heat it, it's great.

Wow!! I enjoyed this! I've wondered about using a French press to froth though I already have one of those things with two screens to froth). For someone who wants to enjoy coffee drinks while camping, this sounds like a great solution! I'm impressed! ... Oh, for people who might be thru-hiking a trail and traveling light, I saw one AT hiker praise Cafe Bustelo's Café con Leche instant (I've never tried it -- I'm vegan) or Alpine Start's Dirty Chai (coffee and tea w/powdered coconut milk) and Coconut Creamer Latte (both instant). ... Anyway, I really liked this!

Pro tip: try powdered cream instead of powdered milk (not vegan friendly). It gives you a lot more of the milk flavor. Also good for using in pasta dishes and any other appropriate dried meals that involve adding boiling water. Tons of extra flavor, and some decent extra calories. You can find powdered cream on Amazon, and a bag will last about a year or so.

I feel tea gets a bum wrap; a good tea is just as good as a good coffee and in fact even has more caffeine in it (reg coffee). Having tested all the various powdered milks I found carnation skim to be the best, not quite as good as home from the bag but its close and the powdered milk keeps it warmer longer. Carnation was also the only one that didn't clump and mixes even cold.
