If you made a dehydrated meal cookbook I would 100% buy it. I'm vegetarian so I appreciate your creative vegan meals. In said theoretical book it would be great to see a mix of home made meals in a dehydrator as well as meals that are made by combining some prepackaged ingredients such as dried beans, pasta, ramen, etc.

So glad you liked and profiled my date sugar suggestion! I just made dehydrated oatmeal with cinnamon-date puree. Here's the recipe: in a small crockpot: lightly oil the crockpot; mix 4 cups water with 1 cup steel cut oats, 1/4 tsp salt. Cook in crockpot 3-4 hours. Soak 16-20 pitted dates in hot water, just covered. After the dates soften and cool, puree dates and soaking water with 1 tsp+ cinnamon. Mix the puree into the cooked oatmeal. Divide into 4 servings on lined dehydrator trays. Enjoy!

Neat tips, I WILL try the soup. One of my favorite things to dehydrate is corn. Take a one pound bag of cheap frozen sweet corn and dehydrate it until it releases from the screen or parchment. It will be all shriveled up for sure. Then using a dry pan like a wok you roast it it until it swells back up and you smell roasted corn. That will pull out the natural sugars from the corn. Lay it out on a backing sheet to cool and keep it in a air tight bag. Instant energy for a snack and you can add in a few green peas using the same process and if you like sprinkle in some curry powder or other spices to taste. This is Parched Corn that was used for centuries as trail food. You can even grind it up and mix it with instant milk and butter powder to make grits, I have mixed it with melted brown sugar to make a morning mush that is packed with energy to get you going. Try it.

I never realized how immensely practical a dehydrator really is. Like allowing me to have pre cut vegetables ready when i want to make a meal, and being able to use just as much as i need, instead of being stuck with half an onion or broccoli or whatever, that i need to use quickly before it expires. Now i can boil a whole bag of potatoes in one go, as well as slicing them up in one go, so i dont have to do that work every time i want to make a meal. And when i want to prepare the meal, i just add all the dehydrated ingredients to my food thermos, make a quick gravy, add extra water for the rehydration, bring it to a boil, pour the gravy into my food thermos, shake it all up, and wait for it to rehydrate. BTW... For the gravy, i usually just melt some butter in a pot, stir in some flour, let it roast for half a minute (or a little longer if i want a darker color gravy), and then gradually add some water while stirring, until i get a good consistency. I then add a little salt and pepper and maybe some paprika powder - and/or whatever spices i want.

.. Great thing about a dehydrator ,, when planning an outing , about 2 weeks before just dehydrate any meal leftovers from daily meals ,, especially if your single ,, don't have to make special batches ... Dehydrate then vacuum seal ,, put in fridge until needed .. .. using a dehydrator is kinda fun ,, jerky ,, fruit roll ups for the kids ,, dried fruit slices .. just about anything edible .. ..And agree ☆☆ ..add seasonings when re-hydrating ...

Leftovers? My kids never leave any. 😂 And when I dehydrate fruit to have as snack on the trail......they eat it as candy in the tv-couch! Can't really complain though, they prefer fruit before candy. 🤔😉

Great video! Regardless of whether you are vegetarian, vegan, or eat meat, vegetable based diy dehydrated meals do tend to yield the best results from what I have found. Meat can be very difficult to dry because of the fat and can take a very long time to rehydrate. However, what I have done in the past for adding meat to home dehydrated meals is to just buy a can of freeze dried chicken, such as from Mountain House, which was pretty cost-effective.
