Can you make money buying seasoned wood to resell? #77

In this video I explore the possibility of buying seasoned firewood for resale. My helper Jose has a lot of well seasoned wood that he is interested in selling. I investigate the possibility of buying his dry wood for resale. Since my seasoned wood is running low, this may be a win/win for both of us.

Damn Jack… you really dated me with that info 😂. I actually quit doing firewood (sales) from about 1985 until 2020 when I got my first commercial splitter. It was a good fit with my part time landscape maintenance business I had been running since retiring from my “real” job in 2003. Chainsaws and wood splitting gets in your blood! I do it all the time Dick, some people even call me a “firewood broker”. When I buy processed wood I need to make at least $50 per face cord profit.

It really worked out well for both of us. Because of the profit margin on bundles I was able to offer Jose a very fair price for the bulk wood.

Us old guys [71] need all the help we can get. I used to sell wood but, don't anymore. Too much work and I live in an area where everyone has wood. I would have to drive 50 miles to sell it. I met you at the Bunyon, I think you were at Eastonmade.

Hey James. I remember meeting you at Bunyan. It was getting harder for me also. I’ll be 75 in January. The Eastonmade 22-28 splitter with the box wedge and conveyor has me producing more than I ever did and with little effort. It is keeping me going!

Dick, I had just finished delivering my first cord of wood when I could no longer ignore my spleen I ruptured the day before. Needless to say, I was disappointed I couldn’t fulfill all my orders. Therefore, a wood reseller contacted me to buy the rest at the price I was asking (cheapest in my area). Reluctantly I agreed. So I know what it feels like to be out of dried wood. It will take awhile for me to heal up well enough to start again - but this year’s a bust. Glad you could help Jose out and visa-versa.

It's also interesting. How many folks just want bundles over bulk wood. I have 3 guys at work that don't want a 1/3 of a cord sitting around at their house. They'd rather me bring them a few bundles before the weekends😂 which is fine with me, that extra work that goes into making them is worth it.✌️

Hi Dana. Yes it is. Too many firewood guys have no idea of their tru overhead/costs. That's why we continue to see low pricing. Those guys go out of business, but unfortunately there is always another one that jumps in.
