CAN YOU MIX COOLANT COLORS, BRANDS OR TECHNOLOGIES??

Could you mix coolant (antifreeze) colors, brands or technologies?? Find out why mixing it can be disastrous to your engine and cooling system. It can gelling in the cooling system and clog your radiator, water jacket, heater core and passages. It is important to not mix different antifreeze technologies. If the incorrect coolant is used, it is advised to flush the cooling system.

I don't worry about such things. I don't live in a cold climate so I don't need antifreeze. I have never ever used anything but pure water in any of my vehicles. I have never experienced excessive corrosion. My engines run at Perfect temperature. There have been times when I have drained the water after 2 years and not noticed any more corrosion than when I used to use antifreeze. So, if your vehicle is never exposed to freezing temperatures, don't bother with antifreeze at all!😊

I think the “main” in all of the automotive glycols is ethylene glycol. It’s the additives that are different. Prestone all makes all models says it can be mixed with any other coolant. I have a sneaking suspicion the main problem all along causing most of these horror stories is just dex-cool, people mixing stuff with it and it gelling, but the truth is even people getting a leak and it gets low and it gels up, without mixing it with anything. Just the thoughts going through my brain as I watch the vid.

Thank you so much! This was very informative. Just to make sure, I have a 2020 Kia Rio. The OEM coolant that came in it has the color green. It is P-HOAT ethylene-glycol based coolant. I need to top off my reservoir, and the closest thing I found was Zerex long life for Asian Vehicles. It is also P-HOAT ethylene-glycol based, but the color is red. The video says that color is just a dye, but just wanted to confirm that this will cause no damage mixing the green stuff with the red?

The main issue is the corrosion inhibitors from different types react and neutralize each other so you start getting a lot of corrosion. Another problem that arises is that if you switch from one type of anti-freeze to another (complete drain and refill) is that all engines have some corrosion and dirt in them that's adhered strongly to the interior surfaces , when you change the type of corrosion inhibitors you are using ,all of the dirt can suddenly come free at once and clog up your radiator and heating core. I run into this issue quite a bit with forklifts , the owner buys a used forklift and switchsd it over to green glycol so all of his forklifts use the same antifreeze , and a week later the radiator is clogged up with rust and sludge.

In my semi I definitely know there is a difference some end up breaking down quicker than others that's for sure I've done so much testing I have 2 trucks 1 has had the same coolant almost 15 years yes I've had to add some here and there and yes I add the minerals that it's lacking after I have it tested now my other truck man oh man I've thrown just about every kind of coolant in there that I can think of I had it so messed up and acidy a bunch of times that now no matter what I put in there it turns rust / mud red Coolant and oil is sent out to get tested EVERY service I do

Newer Asian cars require silicate free HOAT. Go for prestone or zerex asian car formulas if you have a Japanese or Korean brand. In contrast European cars need silicated HOAT.

My coolant colour is PINK. Ethylene glycol is written on the coolant container. But, in your table, Pink color falls under HOAT. Now, i am confused whether my coolant is IAT or HOAT? Does HOAT contain ethylene glycol? Obviously OAT is propylene glycol. Then what is HOAT?

I have Hyndai Santa Fe 2009. Green coolant. I have not changed it for 10 years. The fluid looked always bright green and no speck of inpurity. But too old to stay in the system. I went to Hyndai dealership and picked up Hyndai original brand coolant that is for my car. Also green in color. I backed up car on 1 foot high ramp to lower the front. I drained old staff. Took a sample bottle. It appeared somewhat transparent bright green and no particles. I flushed the car with tap hot water. Drained it 2 times. Let the car run 15 minutes with heater at max speed and heat. Drained it again. The water was clear but maybe slight hue of green. I used an air pressure to empty overflow tank into the top of radiator. I rinsed again with bottled distilled water through the overflow tank. Let it run a bit and drained it. Then I added 1L concentraded coolant into the radiator. I added 0.8L of deionized water. It was full. I let the car work 20min with heater and AC on. No top up needed. I took for a slow ride around the block. Looked at fluid and it had a hint of foam (2-3 creamy bubbles). I took for 20min drive to work. The radiator cap appeared to have plenty of yellow (curry) light foam. I wiped it off. The fluid itself looks green but not as transparent. It has tiny white specks as deep as I can see. Not on surface. I looked inside the overflow tank and it looks very clean bright green with no issues but a hint of rainbowy oily surface. Perhaps from the coolant itself. 1) Did I not suppose to pour concetrate into radiator but do it mixing in the overflow tank? Hence concentrate got foamy as it was blended by the water pump? 2) Could have green previous fluid reacted with green new fluid? And this is the effect of gelling up? 3) Could the new fluid act as a wash and pick up dirt/rust from the inside? 10 years worth of stuff. I believe its an alluminum block. 4) maybe air pressure blown into radiator cap created a hole in the block or transmission where oil is now getting mixed with coolant? 5) Other possibily? I will right away flush it with tap water in case its the jelling up process. What steps you think I should do?

My 2021 Triumph Tiger 850 motorcycle originally came filled with the Triumph HD4X coolant, which is of the HOAT type. The HD4X was standard across the entire range of Triumph models. This year, Triumph has phased it out in favour of the Triumph D2053 coolant, which is of the OAT variety. They cannot be mixed - a complete flush of the entire cooling system must be done before the D2035 can be used. Why would Triumph do this?

I have an 2014 Infiniti G37 s coupe. I had my radiator replaced, and now I need to top off my coolant reservoir. I’m not sure what coolant they used, and it’s at the Min. Line. It looks bright green I called and asked the shop what coolant to use and someone advised me to get Prestone all vehicle coolant. For my sense of comfort and peace of mind can you confirm this is ok to do please? I plan on flushing it and going with OEM Nissan blue coolant, but have a long drive before I can do so.

Hoat is the most balanced coolant. You can top it off a little bit of anything. Thats why the answer is yes and a no if incase of emergency. But regarding dye color it doesnt matter will look sht long term though. Been using different color same technology flush it properly
