I texted you a landstar freight bill. You can see for your self that load pays me, ME not gross but me, $4.07 a mi. $16,000 a month gross is EASY. $20,000 + is very doable if you are willing to ride. I don’t mean live in the truck either. I’m home every 7-10 days and there for 3-4 days before I go do it again.

@shawnhendersonsr986

@@victorbruce3315 i really can't say bro I don't run teams but it just depends on the rate you pull for. I pull loads that pay $2.50 and up. I don't go any lower than $2.50. Like he said you dispatch yourself here. So if you don't make any money its on you. I been an O/O over 20 years and this by far is the best company I've been with. But like I said for each his own. I run from Texas to Tennessee for $2500 which my cut is $1695 and I run back into Texas for the same rate and that's a 3 day run.

You failed math in school Travis. That's painfully obvious. 1695 x 2 = 3390 before expenses and taxes. How many people can say that do that, and have 4 days off a week?
@shawnhendersonsr986

Thats what I take in and its not because there's no freight its because I don't feel like working hard anymore. Thats 3 to 4 days running for me. If I wanna make more I run more. I know guys that are fine with 2k a week and others that make 4 to 5k a week. When I was pulling covid relief a was going home with 4k after fuel and other expenses.

Landstar was better money for sure but man they were a pain in the ass to deal with. Constant demands for paperwork and nobody checks their email. Once or twice a month usually my fuel card got cut off and I'd have to wait until the office people showed up to call and have them look for my email I sent. Finding a place that has a landstar certified inspector was a pain too. Hauling hazmat will get you pulled over like nothing else with random level 1s out your ass. I got 5 random drug tests within a year too. Good money but they don't make it easy at all.

To me Landstar = Freedom & $$. I go where and when I want for the money I want.. Did I mention freedom? I can work hard for 3 months if I want. I can take 3 weeks off when ever I want. I can book a load to Alaska and Canada whenever I want. Did I mention freedom? 🙂 Yes, I guess you could say that I'm loving "Landstar blue". I try to do better, but I also work 4 days a week. Set achievable, realistic goals and base your numbers off of it. Make more, great. Make less, keep rolling. There will always be someone who knows better, does better, is better and all they want to do is make you feel like shit about what you’re doing. There's plenty of trucking companies that will put you though school to get your CDL. You'll have to go OTR for a while but if you are single without kids you can just live on the road not having to pay rent and put money in the bank. You don't make a whole lot of money for about the first year but it pays off. If you go over three years with no accidents or tickets you can pretty much get a job anywhere. I'm working a home daily making between $1200 and $1800 a week depending on what route I'm on. If you truly want to get into the industry do it as soon as possible because it will only get harder if you wait.

Why do 65/72% with Landstar when you can get 85/90% elsewhere and book your own loads as well. YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Landstar fuel discounts alone bring that percentage up, plus product discounts (tires, shop/labor discounts, etc). Most guys focus on the percent and that is short-sighted

You can. You would just have to find a driver that owns 2 or 3 other trucks that are leased on to Landstar and drive one of his trucks as a company driver.

Owner operator should make at least $4000 gross a month for it to be worth it... I look it as anything over $15,000 a month gross it is worth it for you to have a good take home of about 50% if you have a truck payment.

Is Landstar a good company, Yes. Is it for everyone, NO. In orientation they will tell you that they only hire 2% of all applicants. So many people apply, they can afford to be picky, so have a clean driving record when you apply, and one year of verifiable OTR experience. Landstar will contact your last employer, after they approve and qualify you, they only do it because the law requires they verify your last 10 years of work history, they won’t bother talking to your last boss, because they know bosses lie about employees especially when they want to quit. Landstar will accept any truck that can use an ELD and has a sleeper, sleepers are not required for hot shots. At Landstar there is room for growth, because you can pull a verity of trailers and they will train you on different trailer types. The number one reason people avoid / leave Landstar is the percentage they take, but you have to look at it in the proper way. Ok Landstar takes 35% of the gross if you use their “VAN” tailer please note this applies to “VAN ONLY”. A friend of mine was running a load from KS to TX, and he was being paid 90% of the gross at his company. I showed him a load on the Landstar board, pick up in the same city as his load, delivered in the same city as his load even the weight was similar, but the Landstar truck was paid $675 more after Landstar took 35% vs his company 10%, so I said “yes you are getting 90% but 90% of what”. Landstar has transparency they show you their numbers at his company he only got a piece of what the boss gave him, but he never saw the bosses true numbers. He said he always wondered why I was at home. At Landstar networking with Agents and knowing who to call is key, they cover this in orientation . I worked with the same group of Agents, I ran the same lanes. I would go out and run a triangle three total loads and would “BRING HOME” $5,000 + in a week and I did this twice a month. Now before you super truckers start in about the money, take a deep breath and keep reading. My “TAKE HOME” was over $10K a month, now I don’t know about your life budget, but “most people in America and the world can live on $10K a month, heck most people in America don’t even make $10K a month, and on top of that I’m “AT HOME”, for two weeks a month. So think of what your family life, marriage, home life, fishing life and time with your kids could be if you had that kind of income and home time. Now for those of you that need $25K a month to live, the Landstar Van trailers may not be for you so look into the Heavy Haul or Flat Bed divisions they make more, or if you qualify for AAE division they make even more, like I said room to grow. That driver / friend I spoke of, will be starting at Landstar in a couple of weeks, yes he was hired like I said only 2%. The only people who talk bad about Landstar are people who never worked for Landstar or bosses trying to keep their employees from going to Landstar. I met one driver who quit Landstar, because he didn’t want to dead head and I met another who “couldn’t make any money”, well it turned out he purchased his own “VAN TRAILER” for $6,000 and it was such a POS, that customers would not load him, he chose to purchase his own trailer because at Landstar you get an extra 10% of the gross if you have your own trailer and that applies to most trailer types I had to say most, because some trailers will get you an extra 13% of the gross. I won’t go into the extra benefits here because my post is too long already.
