Can You Reuse Hard Wax? Wax is one of the most expensive materials when running your salon, so I see people asking if you can reuse hard wax? Now, I’m not talking about reheating wax that hasn’t touched any skin and has cooled again. For example, the wax that is leftover in my wax warmer from yesterday. As long as the wax hasn’t been used, yes you can absolutely reheat the wax that it’s in your wax warmer and use it.
What I’m talking about is reusing wax that has already been laid on a person and removed their hair. There’s some type of machine that apparently you put your used wax inside, and it’s supposed to filter or strain out the hair in the wax, so you can reuse it, thus recycling the wax. I have no idea how it does that but I 100% think that it’s an awful idea. I’ve even heard of some salons that would strain the wax through pantyhose. That is completely unsanitary. That’s like reusing a wax stick that you’ve already dipped in your warmer, used to spread the wax onto your client, and then using it again. We call that double dipping and I actually have another video that talks about how wrong and unsanitary that is.
The wax is now contaminated and has bacteria from the customer's skin. You cannot reuse that wax!
Now if you’re just practicing waxing and not actually using the wax on a client or yourself, there is a way you can practice laying wax strips and reuse the wax. Insert- a mermaid silicone practice mat!
You can use a practice silicone mat to practice laying your wax strips. Just clean and sanitize the area, then you have the freedom to lay wax strips to help get your technique down. Since it’s a clean area without any hair, you can remove the wax strip and place it back in your warmer so it can be reused.
I used to practice laying wax strips by laying strips on my table paper, which is great but you can’t remove the strip so that wax just gets wasted. Total bummer. That’s why I love the silicone practice mats so much since you can also remove the wax.
You can even lay the practice mat over part of your body to help mimic actually waxing that area. Or draw a pretend eyebrow or something if you want to follow a pattern.
So if you’re just practicing and not using it an actual client, use a practice mat! If you’re trying to reuse wax that has been used on a client or yourself, throw it away!
