That Eccles route is one of the slowest tram routes I've been on anywhere. It probably wouldn't be too difficult for even a tortoise to beat it!

That was very excitingly close; I wonder if Geoff had gone into Piccadilly station via the lower level from London Rd it might have changed the time & result - but I suspect not. (And we'd have just had the two of them racing through the concourse to get outside again!)

if the pedestrian access to the Metrolink platform direct from London Road hadn't closed "temporarily" in early 2017 (Spoiler: It's still closed) I reckon Geoff could have met Jen on the platform it was that close.

Well done Geoff for getting through Salford into Manchester via Pomona. I've lived in Manchester for years and still get stranded every time I walk to Old Trafford or Media City. Even worse when someones a wheelchair user. Wish they'd put some more pedestrian friendly routes down.

Fantastic Challenge, even if Geoff does get a 'bit lost' on approaching Picadilly? He went left at end of Whitworth Street, when he should have gone right and used the lifts/escalator @ Fairfield St entrance He does get excited when he is out of his comfort zone(s) 1- 9 I do love that there is still a route along the canals into the City. Would make a grand day out, getting the tram out to Media City and walk back.

A Brummie who has visited Manchester quite a lot. I know how Geoff felt trying to get into Piccadilly. If you not on the main ramp give up! Even following the tram tracks didn’t work. You weren’t allowed to go through the tunnels on foot!

Hi Jen and Geoff, Very well done to the pair of you, that was a very close call...although to be absolutely fair you both had a disadvantage. Jen's tram was late away and Geoff couldn't find his way up from the street level. He ran right past the lift access point which I immediately recognised as I have used it a few times. But all in all a great test and it was obvious you both enjoyed the experience. Again, well done for making an enjoyable watch. On another note Jen, this older London/Suffolk boy will be in Stockport from Monday 3rd of October to Friday 7th October, so if you would like to show me parts of your city that I may have missed the coffees and snacks are on me. I managed to get lost trying to find a tram at Piccadilly and then chase it on foot all the way to Victoria where I was able to hop on it and continue my journey to Bury after just missing it at pretty much every other intermediate stop!

According to Google maps, it is 5·15km by the shortest walkable route from the BBC at Media City to Piccadilly Station. Admittedly, that route could be heavily populated by pedestrians at certain times, but it's significantly shorter than buggering about on the towpath!

Awesome! But it also means that anything faster, like a bicycle, moped, is even quicker. I don't know, trams can be useful, but if they not some lightrail version at least with seperate lanes, then it is maybe convenient, but not fast and you rather take the underground if there is any. (O, okay, now i see a video in 'recommended'about a bicycle versus tram 😃. Let's watch that one.

Well done Geoff. Manchester doesn't have quite the same level of traffic as London, that should help explain why we don't have trams running down Oxford Street (and much fewer pedestrian precincts for you to take advantage of as well). Because of this, I think your competition was a bit more steep up there than what you might be used to when racing in London. So, well done.
