I did a couple of these with some friends of mine WAY back went on the Subway here in NYC. First was the end result of an argument we had, fastest way to get between two stations. It was a cold, February evening. We were on basically an adventure around the area. We were pulling into Jamaica Station on the Long Island Rail Road, and our decided next destination was Avenue H on the Q train in Brooklyn. (for context, this was a trip to take pictures of things and Avenue H is the point where the line rises from an open cutting onto an embankment.) The disagreement was getting there. Some people wanted to just go down to the J train, ride that into Manhattan and transfer for the Q at Canal Street. I suggested taking the J to Broadway Junction station, going down to the C train, riding that a few stops to connect to the Franklin Avenue Shuttle and then get the Q without having to go to Manhattan. So we split into two teams. My side won handedly, because the other route crosses both of the two suspension bridges that carry subway tracks and the trains move really slow over those. We got so bored waiting we ended up having a small snowball fight. The second time was actually about a year later. A free for all Quickest route between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and Penn Station. I went Q train a couple stops to get the B train, straight that up to 34th street and ran like a maniac. Came middle of the pack IIRC.

@DavidShepheard5 жыл бұрын
Ohh. You mention disability and that makes me think that some...but not all of London's transport system has wheelchair access. On top of that, some of the lifts that provide wheelchair access are in slightly odd places...and some lifts are fairly slow. I'd *love* to see some wheelchair-bound transport fans race across London (and maybe some other places) on alternative step-free-only routes. (I think it would also be good to be able to see what routes are currently blocked for wheelchair users. Someone should make a London Connections map that has all the non-accessible stations grayed out.)

What's the red steam engine near the end of the video?
@skyblazeeterno2 жыл бұрын
google is everyone's friend - found this in seconds - I cannot post a link but will copy paste text =============================== Robert is the 38 tonne saddle tank steam engine that sits outside Stratford station, however when he first arrived in Newham back in 1993, his original spot was next to the gas works in Beckton. His change of location in 1999 was due to ongoing vandalism. The red locomotive was actually built green by the Ironside Engine Company, Bristol in 1933 and was originally named Lamport number 3 due to being one of three engines that transported coal for Lamport Ironside Mines in Northamptonshire where he worked until the mines closed in 1969. After spending many years providing fun family trips on heritage railway lines, Lamport Number 3 then went on display at various locations including a number of museums. After receiving an image and name upgrade Robert can now enjoy his permanent home in Newham, to the delight of many young children who often associate him with Thomas, that other very famous tank engine.

90% of people who go to Stafford go to the Westfield Centre, so why muddy the waters by having to walk half a mile to the other train station just to make the race tighter. The Javelin is far far quicker. Not the poxy 4 mins you quoted. Re-do the race meeting in the lower food court. 10 mins v 30 mins then.

A possible new option. At the momen Elizabeth Line would be a non-starter due the long walk at Liverpool Street, but when through running starts St. Pancras to Farringdon by Thameslink and then Elizabeth Line to Stratford might be a possible route and unlike HS1 it serves the main station, not International.

From the meeting point of course, Vicky should probably have crossed the road and gone in the lift/stairs by the German Gymnasium, and David should have crossed the road and gone from the stairs/lift opposite where you met as they both walk one way and double back under the road. However Geoff would have been quicker going up the outside and in the door by the HiSpeed, so would still have won.
