answered all of my questions and then some. Rare to find wide ranging comparisons like that. Well done.

My dad used to do this with his series 70 1911. Back in the 80s he shot competition with it so it helped both to be cheap and the SWC punches a really nice clear hole in paper so he wouldn’t have to worry about being miss-scored. Edit: If I remember right though he did polish up his feed ramp. The angle is very steep on a 1911 and that sharp shoulder on the swc did catch a few times before he did

Very cool video! Love the concept, and your choice of handguns is great - everything is literally represented!!! Good job, dude

Of course you can. I used to shoot 158gr hard cast LSWCs through a Walther P1 and P4 that I had. Also ran them through a Glock 19. Shot 255gr LSWCs through an S&W 645 with zero problems.

Good testing as surprising results as who knew they would work that well...Good stuff...

Assuming you only had one gun and it ran them well you could tailor the powder charge to get good groups. The best part is the cost using these you get a few extra bullets out of a pound of lead and can reload a box of ammo for ~$2.50.

now this is a good video. Great quality stuff, don't sell out like the big guys and just make basic videos that cater to general audiences. I mean do, want you to do good, but keep the stuff interesting for those deep into the gun community.

Thanks for watching. I try to do a mix of different things. I'm not hyper focused in any one aspect of shooting so I try to cover whatever I'm interested in. The only promise I made is that everything on the channel will be gun related with an occasional sword or military surplus item thrown in if it's interesting.

Well, a 9mm is .355, so a lead bullet which is usually sized 1 or 2 thousandths larger anyway, shouldn't have a problem. My lead 9mm's are .356, and are available. 357. .358 could be a little tight, however the last batch of .358's I got for my .38spl were measuring .356 and .357 (undersized imho) so I wouldn't hesitate to try loading them for my SW Mod 59, which will chamber empty cases all day long. Your experiment was great, and it's good to know you can go outside the box...as long as you are careful about it.

Nice, I got a Blackhawk so i picked up 9mm dies from eBay going to look for this mold now... With pricing and shortage and all that BS... if a buddy has a 9 maybe I can help them out as well

Most say it won't work but I load the lee 358-158tl Swc in 9mm. Sized to .356 1.09 oal and 3.5 grains of unique... my glock 19 seams to like them
@GunAndShotTV7 жыл бұрын
I think using weird bullets is much easier in modern guns like glock that are made to just throw the bullet from the mag into a funnel shaped chamber. Older designs with controlled feed like the 1911 will always be picky because they count on the bullet being a certain size or shape so it's always being held in place. I think the biggest problem with the CZ is it has short lips on the mag and the OAL is just short enough on the 105SWC that by the end of the lips the bullet isn't contacting the chamber yet and the mag spring pivots the round up into the barrel hood. But as I said seating them longer isn't an option as the front driving band has no taper and just sticks in the rifling.

Gun&ShotTV I agree! Going to have to get the 105 swc now :) on top of the 158 I use the 120 grain tc and the 95 round flat. I even play with them and 38 special from time to time. Great video by the way!

Lee has a kit to resize 357 bullet to 356 for 9 and 38 super.

These are just some of the 9mms. I know I missed a few like the P38 I shot in a few videos. I think it was the Baretta 96 and the 5906 videos iirc. But I think it could use some new springs so I'd rather not shoot it too much until it's resprung. I think 9mm bullets in .38 would probably lead to leading and be inaccurate for most guns. Though I'm sure there are some guns with tight barrels that shoot them just fine. You could also bump them up in a lubrisizer if you have the strength and a .358 die.

You can also put metal tape between the mold halves to get a tiny bit more width if you want to get them bigger to try to oversize them. With the cost of lee molds it's probably easier just to buy a specialized .38 mold if the bullet profile you want is available in .358

In my state lead wheel weights are banned so all you find are the occasional older lead weight in a bucket of zinc. :(

Thanks for this info. I'm looking at a pile of Lee 158 gr RF that I want to try in my Beretta 92 and Walther P99.......
@GunAndShotTV7 жыл бұрын
Obviously you will need to size them to .356. Depending on the brand of brass you are using you may have issues as the bullets will seat pretty deep and brass walls get thicker near the base so the brass may bulge and not chamber. You will also be in uncharted territory for powder loads so use something like quickload to get a rough estimate and make sure you aren't radically overpressure because the case volume will be tiny and pressures will go very high very fast. FWIW in this thread someone says they are using that bullet in a Beretta 92. castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?296357-Lee-358-158-RF-90692-Mold-for-9mm-ADVISE-PLEASE I would do some googling and reading to get more info as there may be some tricks to get it to work and cycle while keeping a decent safety margin.

Might have better luck with a 124 or 147-158 grain bullet. Never a fan of really light bullets in the 9mm. I have some old WW white box in 115g but they just sit there. I just load 124g RNs for now but will be loading up SWC in 124g+ sizes soon. Remember that the 1911 guys have been running SWC forever with no problems.

I run 158 gr Lee SWC in my CZ75, over 3.6 grains of Hodgdon Clays. Feeds perfect, and are ridiculously accurate. I seat until the front band, and it looks just like the rounds in this video

Generally yes, but It depends on the 9mm.
@GunAndShotTV7 жыл бұрын
Definitely depends on the gun as we see here. Also most .38 bullets are too long to fit in a 9mm case and leave room for powder so you only have a few that it's even worth trying.

So you can load 9 mm in 48 sp cases

9mm is .355 inch .38 is .357 inch I've got a threaded revolver and I'm scared it will damage a 9mm suppressor. Really wanna throw an Odessa-9 on there.
@nominalvelocity4 жыл бұрын
Most 9 is .3555-.356 the difference between the smallest and the largest standard bullets for either 9 or .38 is about 2 thousands of an inch--or 1 thou per side of the bullet. In other words, about 1/4 the thickness of a sheet of standard office paper. If your muffler had those kinds of tolerances, the bullets would scrape just from the vibrations caused by firing. I'm sure you're more than safe, but get some calipers and measure your baffles if you're unsure.

The biggest drawback is the ammo cost and the fact that most of it is loaded super soft unless you pay for premium like Double Tap, Underwood or Buffalo Bore.
