To anyone who missed it because she didn't say so explicitly: the pregnancy was ectopic and in one of her fallopian tubes, which had to be removed as a result. She was married, took steps not to get pregnant again, _and_ couldn't have carried to term even if she'd wanted to.

I already have an IUD, and this is exactly why both my partner and I are discussing getting sterilized instead. While the chances of getting pregnant on an IUD are small, the risk of an IUD pregnancy being ectopic is close to 50%. Those odds are just too scary in the current political climate, where-depending on where I am in the country-I cannot be certain I’ll get the treatment I need if I develop a complicated pregnancy. It’s too dangerous a time to be an outlier birth control statistic-I need my chances of pregnancy to be as close to zero as possible.

I've commented on a lot of these videos but this is the most surprising one. As I understood it, IUDs reduce pregnancy rates by over 80%. Granted, it's been years since I looked up IUD info but as I understood it, it was the second best contraceptive behind condoms. Folks getting pregnant after installing them isn't something I've thought about but it kinda gives all the more reason to vote for folks that'll protect the right to choose.

It does happen, no hormonal or mechanical method is 100%. I got pregnant with an IUD but miscarried later. I’ve seen reels with women whose baby was born with the device! I still appreciate mine, having been pregnant only 1x in 6 years it definitely helped our family planning, even if I had carried to term (with 2 children already here)

It is the most effective after getting your tubes tied. However, most of the % that fails are ectopic like this, so not viable

IUDs are much more effective than condoms. It's funny to me that we even consider a method with a 12% failure rate birth control, I'd never take those odds.

My sister in law got pregnant three times using three different forms of birth control, including an IUD. After three, she got herself sterilized.

A friend of mine got pregnant with an IUD twice shortly after each other. And only after the second child doctors found out that she had a minor anatomic variant in her uterus which made it much more likely that she could get pregnant even with a correctly inserted IUD. Her husband got an vasectomy after that since they were happy with having 2 kids, even if after the accidental first one, they actually had planned on waiting a bit longer with the second than 15 months or so, but certainly did not want to go for No. 3 or 4.

A high school friend ended up with 5 kids under 5 despite being on birth control. Twin boys despite using a condom, a girl while on The Pill, and another set of twin boys despite using a condom. Told me she was getting her tubes tied as soon as she'd given birth to the 2nd set of twins seeing as she's so absurdly fertile. We joked that a man just had to look at her hard enough & she'd get pregnant. (While she actually wanted kids, I came to the conclusion that 2 forms of BC would be necessary, just in case)

Two forms of BC is the only way to go if you truely want to prevent a pregnancy from happening. I have heard soooooo many stories of one form of BC not being enough. Especially IUD's are a bit skitchy. The pill for example does not work if you're sick and have diarrhea.

This is why I'll never consider a method with a 12% failure rate "birth control". The pill has its own problems since a person can miss a single day by accident unlike with better methods that don't rely on user error.

Yes you can. I've got an 18 year old. He was 11 when I ended up in the er for kidney stones. They found my iud that I was told had fallen out. Thanks paragard.

Any birth control can fail. It's not perfect. I know someone who's IUD simply didn't want to stay. She had to take it out and get a nexplanon. I highly recommend nexplanon, from personal experience. Birth control helped me with the agony of the monthly bloody Mary. Mine used to last all 7 days 😬

Alot of men are going to have to get vasectomies in order to even have access to women sxually(with consent). Without consent they risk having their heads blown off. Men just might want to have the Supreme court’s decision reversed if they know what’s good for them. 😗
