Honestly, you don't want to be flashing around wealth anyhow. I sold two businesses just before covid (luckily). So I'm retired at 44. I could go over there permanently and live like a king but I don't think I would. You can only build walls so high, literally and figuratively. People will eventually understand your relative worth. I would rent or build a modest house (with a pool) and make the inside as Western as possible with all the creature comforts I have in the US. A condo in a bubble city or just outside it might be even better. Far fewer people will know your apparent wealth. Only people you invite in. Buy furnishings over time and not all at once. If you have a lot of stuff delivered all at once people notice. Especially the deliverymen. And tipping is also something to consider. It's one thing if you're out of town but if you tip well locally it gets around. And even if you have deliverymen who do a good job and you want to reward them, just be modest about it. I saw way too many Westerners not noticing when they took out tens of thousands of pesos from their crossbody bag and people started staring. It's just not good behavior on multiple levels.

Excellent video you're absolutely right it cost more to live in the United States but if you do it right it's not bad I live here with my wife and two children from the Philippines in the state of Florida for about $2,000 a month of course I own my house but with that 2000 that covers everything food clothing Insurance on cars Insurance on house taxes on house 100% All In. I have found my food cost is lower here than in the Philippines mainly because Florida is such a growing state we get fresh vegetables all year long at the local markets very cheap. I actually semi-retired at 47 I cut myself down to 20 hours a week at the most, I fully retired at 59 I have not collected Social Security yet (63 now) but when I do I will get about 2500 a month, one must remember Social Security was never meant to retire on it was always meant as a supplemental income for your retirement you are responsible for the majority of your own retirement in the United States not the government. I think it's exceptionally reasonable to live here. My wife and I have lived in IT Park in Cebu City for three years now with our young son. We have a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo for just 40k. Electric averages 5000 and we typically run 2 AC units 24/7. I spend another 5k for 1 gig fiber internet. So that's under 1k USD for the basics in IT Park. I won't quote our food because that's going to vary for each individual. No transportation costs other than Grab and taxis, which average only 150 to 250 pesos at the most. But almost everything we need is within walking distance which doubles as healthy exercise. This was the best move I ever made in my life. I highly recommend it for retired American men. I would still say the smart budget is closer to 1500 to 2k USD pretty month at a minimum. To be truly worry free, 3 to 4k USD is ideal. But it's up to the individual.

The average annual salary, more or less, is about a thousand dollars a month or so depending on the source of the information. Statistically speaking, I would get that this number gives off a skewed impression of relative wealth per family in The Philippines. There's wealthy by western standards and there are very wealthy by worldly standards and these few, relatively speaking, throw off the graph and bring that annual number up. A thousand a month is very easily done, and comfortably, if out of the big cities, no chemical addiction or gambling issues, eats at home most of the time, doesn't own a car etc. etc. etc. For most westerners, this type of budgeting is not what they want to be dealing with as we know.....but it can be done and one CAN live a better life on their limited retirement better than they could in the US, AUS, England, Germany, Sweden, etc. etc. etc. etc.

@RJT80Ай бұрын
@@frankellis9627 My advice after spending just under 6 months there for guys on early retirement or whatever that want to relocate there is have at very least $250k you can keep parked in a US savings account to keep some money coming in under the taxable threshold. And at least another $15k you can survive your first year on. Plenty of slightly better 'guaranteed' returns like CDs but it's not even really worth the trouble. $500k (with $25k to survive on your first year) is really where you want to be at but then you're starting to get hosed on income taxes. If you have a spouse or even a solid girlfriend you can open a US savings account in her name to split that $500k and avoid taxes. She doesn't need to have access to it unless you die and you've hopefully already set up a living trust to avoid probate if she's your wife. There is no reason you cannot live a comfortable life there on $25k/year in interest earned. Don't go out and party and throw your money away. Cook at home. $12.5k can work if you're single but you have to pick a very affordable place. And once you're there you can always look to get your wife/girlfriend into a line of online work to at least pay for food and utilities.

Dumaguete costs as much as America for a home to purchase so I would guess it is similar for rentals. Can you explain the costs in real life vs online? I am facebook friends with a realtor named Alma and she is always posting homes for sale there in Dumaghete and the costs are super high in comparison to how much people can make there. Often I am seeing homes that are $300k-$500k US that have smaller lot size than my home and about the same square footage. My home is only valued at $480k here in Montana and my payment is $1650 a month and I purchased in 2009 at only 200k. Can you give some ranges for what you can get a decent rental there? Are those prices that Alma posts on Facebook way higher than the average there? Thanks.

Is an international driver's license issued in the US accepted, is a Philippines driver's license required? Or do the scooters even require a license?

You can get much nicer modern housing in Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam compared to Philippines. The rent is ridiculous in the Philippines. It’s unaffordable. My new home in a different Asian country is twice as nice, and cheaper, and I don’t need aircon. No dogs barking. No roaches. WiFi free. Parking free. Maid service free. Better dating scene, better nightlife, better infrastructure. Much better healthier food. I save a LOT of money leaving the Philippines and I’m so much happier and more comfortable. I spent almost 2 years in the Philippines and I won’t return. The two main reasons were unhealthy bland food and housing prices. Good luck to everyone.

So in which country is your new home? The majority of the people in the Philippines speak English. This can't be said about any other country in Asia.
@Mikeycambovideos2 ай бұрын
@@HM-yh6ys that’s outdated news that keeps falsely recirculating on group chats and YT comments for many years. Everyone I speak to in Cambodia can speak English. Also a lot of the signs, menus, online ads, apps, service workers, locals at nightlife, it’s ALL in English. You know why? Because the youth for many years has been on TikTok and YT teaching themselves English to better their lives. I was surprised too! The Philippines is DEFINITELY not the only English speaking Asian country. Not anymore. And the next generation is learning faster with inexpensive smart phones. 👍🏻

@@HM-yh6ys Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong (not Mainland China) and many other places speak similar level or better English as the PI. I also agree about the OP observations and reasons for going to other countries. I am also married to pinay and have investments in PI, but have no desire to retire there, just keep a home base there.

My total retirement is $4,700 dollars a month ,im widowed, but my biggest problem is finding the right woman in the Philippines, but there's so many websites, and you don't know who's telling you the truth or they just want to use you.

Simple, do not take up with a Bargirl, a Street Girl, a woman with 10 freakin' siblings and parents who will be looking for you to support--screw that! Find a lady in a church, working at a retail store in a large mall, a medical professional, etc. A college graduate is a good choice also.... You'll be fine...

At the end of the day , it dependsnon your lifestyle. $1k a month is a very simple life probably in a small town in a province. In the US, you will be below poverty line with that but yiu get free health care, food stamps and at times free housing. You dont have those benefits in the Phils.
@EvralTatum-Mcfield-ov2mi29 күн бұрын
There's is no free housing if you got income coming in monthly, they would pro rate your income at 30% your rent, if you getting 1000 a month in soc sec, then you rent will be $300 a month, free healthcare, there's no more food stamp, is called EBT Card, they loaded with your food benefits, every month, if you are single, here in Massachusetts, you get $295 a month in food on your EBT card, and you all set, as far as not suffering for these benefits, i know, because this is my condition at this time!!

Out of the majority of countries in SE Asia, probably the Philippines ranks last for value on what you actually get for your money. From accomodations, to food, to transportation, to infrastructure etc. one can do much, much, much better if you're actually looking for value for your money. For level of service, quality etc, the prices in Philippines should be no more than 1/3 to 1/2 to what there actually costing, so it's totally over priced for a developing nation that's got little to offer, as it's away behind the curve,compared to other countries in SE Asia

So when you turn 62 the government will give you extra money on Social Security for is it just one child and how much is that? I thought you said 800 it takes a while to be able to receive that. I’m only asking because when I get over there. I will have an adopted child, and I’m sure it’s the same deal you can as long as you have all your paperwork until the age of 18 help with that…. Maybe when you apply for help from Social Security you could do videos on that as well as I’m sure it will draw a lot of interest as to what steps to take any amount that Social Security will increase some people say 50% but I don’t think that’s true.
