The store in my town wanted $25 for a single duck decoy that was from the late 80's.. A hard body decoy.. They was sold brand new for less than $25 for a pair of 4.... And now, they have all new fancy stores to help with the switchover to a actual retail store.. Yes Goodwill is planning on switching titles... Scams is all they are!

I gotta say I am so envious of US pickers who can whip out their phone and scan - none of that for us Australians! I have to find a quiet corner and manually type-n-scroll ebay for all my finds (no Amazon here either). Your thrift prices are amazing! $6 for a sewing machine is a dream! 99c for records is 'middle of nowhere church thrift' price and only for music no one wants - things like Rush and REO speedwagon would be more like $5-10. The more I watch these videos the more I'm convinced us Aussies are playing the game on hard mode! ;)

Ever since they started announcing "good evening goodwill treasure hunters" over the loud speaker, I knew the party was over. Pete, I really like your videos but unless you have a shop, the average picker would have made about $20 bucks from that cranium game and perhaps some money on the Nuggent and McCartney albums. Also, you're quite lucky to have a goodwill that doesn't think they're a macys or a nordstroms. It seems that some of the midwest GWs haven't caught on yet - but they will. Our's would have probably put a price tag of $25 -$40 on that sewing machine and about 1.99 to 2.99 a record. Everything that goes through the place seems like its treated like gold unless proven otherwise. And to add, the goodwill usually looks like a group of piranhas went through the place leaving just the bones.

Pete, that's a really nice GW. In my area the sewing machines are $15 to 50. Work boots are $10 to 30, and many of them know Red Wing is $. New, sealed board games $4 to $10. So you've got it good there, man. Personally, I don't mind the higher priced places cause it keeps the amateurs and the flea market flippers away.

Clearly plenty of folks who's parents either didn't teach their kids good manners, or they couldn't care less to use them. What I bank on is the new employee who doesn't know how to properly search ebay to price an item. I once overheard a seasoned employee explaining to a new employee how to price search on ebay. It really is not as easy as it would seem. Some times if there is a hyphen in a model number and you don't add that the item will not show or sometimes the employee will search an item and the first few items for sale or having sold may be damaged or incomplete which of course brings the price down. If they would have just scrolled down further they may have seen the actual selling price in working condition. Also, sometimes the items aren't on ebay either for sale or sold. These can be the big scores. Not long ago I found a Pioneer LD-W1 laser disc player. I couldn't find it on ebay or google until I typed in the model number followed by the word " ebay " and some old ebay listings popped up with prices ranging from 250 up to 500+. I snatched it up quickly for $30 and sold it within a day or two for $450. And specifically regarding Goodwil, I counted them out a while back and since then I've found multiple items including a new in the package Sony Discman in the front display counter for $8 that I sold within a few days for $140. Still profit to be made!

Another thing that can make a huge difference in home audio/video equipment specifically is if it has the original remote control or not. Sometimes I will check sold listings and find one after another sold for no more than $50-75 until I come upon one or two that had the remote that are selling for $150+. Seemingly little things like that can make a huge difference in profit. I've even gone so far as to purchase factory remotes on ebay after the fact if they're fairly inexpensive so I can make more on an audio/video component.

These Goodwills also get so much inventory that they end up not caring and just want to get things moving to the floor and out of the store. A few days ago I found a perfectly new nebulizer machine for 3.99 and quickly sold it for 90$.

Hmm. I just find it odd/interesting how some items end up on Goodwill's ebay and others don't. That nebulizer couldn't have been that large. I know some items like CPAP machines cannot be sold on ebay but unsure about a nebulizer.

WesM827 It was a portable nebulizer. I think a lot of these Goodwills just get too many products, and the people who work there don't really care all that much. Too much work to look up all the items and throw them up on Ebay if they're worth it. It's easier for these employees to just use the tag gun, throw a price on it, and put it on a shelf.

Taking out a cell phone to check prices and openly talking to other dealers in the store about good finds.... with employees, shoppers, and managers standing right there within earshot are a contributing problem to increased prices.. Unfortunately, the lack of being discreet is making managers more likely to price much higher than they used to. I once had a manager complain (especially about the "scanner" book dealers) and how goodwill is told to price much higher on certain items now because of exactly this.

The question should be in "Cranium"...lol...In big cities the prices are higher and we have couch potatoes in the store...waiting...The sewing machines are $24.99-$60...Used...The Craniums get opened and played in the store, in the Dining area...Red Wing boots for $4.99?...More like in Julia's Attic for $24.99 (construction workers everywhere)...Choice albums?...Would be in a "Lot" for $100 behind Glass or Online. Yea, Goodwill is still better in small towns...but, "the Money" in Big Cities is in/at the Flea Market. You can earn a unlimited amount of money there. Imagine listing 20 items a day for a few hundred dollars and selling them...Almost all profit...Less than 10% Cost...and being "Top Rated Power Seller Plus" with the lower fees...

I become physically sick thinking about giving Goodwill another visit. As many clothes racks, electronic shelves and everything in between ive sorted through, I just cant... I cant do it anymore. Do I regret it? Not at all, I've found some of my largest ROI products there.. it's just the burned out factor. Stomach bile leaks up to my taste buds when I think about scanning another goodwill, it physically hurts thinking about it. Must be nice owning a buy/sell store. Reselling in general has become saturated with other dreamers. The dream is dead guys. Unless you're drop-shipping or buying wholesale niche lots, the "traditional" reselling like this as we know it is.. Dead. The ride was fun, but unless your doing the former or own a shop like Pete, it's near impossible. It's double the work and half the pay now. I miss the 2008-2013 reselling era, little people knew, items were abundant, and it felt illegal turning $2 into $100. But that just doesn't happen anymore. I personally want to thank macklemore's song "Thrift Shop" for giving people awareness, people would avoid thrift shops like a plague "because only poor people would ever shop there" which was beautiful for us. That song turned thrifting into a trend In conclusion: Can you make money at Goodwill still? Well yes, Pete just showed you in this video. But that edge we once had is gone for good. Reselling has become a job where as before it was untapped profitable territory, our generation's digital Gold Rush. It made sense quitting my day job and getting into this full time, because why? I was working less and making more than my job. NOT the case anymore. And it's a damn shame. The internet is still young and changes like this will starve you, literally. The internet is so unpredictable that making a career out of one it's mediums is ludicrous (In hindsight though, I thought it was genius). Abandoned ship before it's TOO late or evolve with the market by dropshipping or wholesale resell. Pete is fortunate to have a shop where products are just shoved down his throat all day by people in desperate need of money, so they'll take bottom dollar while Pete laughs all the way to the bank (or PayPal account). For us less unfortunate who cannot open and employ a storefront are kind of fucked. Heed this advice or don't. Re-selling as we know it is dead.

If you don't have confidence in what you do and always feel you have to ten times your money, or if you don't branch out into several categories but only buy and sell in one category, you might have problems. But if you keep your eyes open and are versatile enough, you will always do well. It is just a matter of learning the markets and having a positive attitude. If you go out thinking you won't find anything, it will be right under your nose and you won't see it.

Dear Pete, Thanks for this video. Your Goodwill looks better than the ones we have here in New Orleans area. We have spent time searching in these stores. Stuff is picked over by Goodwill themselves so they can put it for sale online. Then they want to overcharge on the junk that's left. There are many times where we will see thrift shops raise their prices, but the good thing is that thrift stores usually have a high turnover in their sorting/pricing dept so the prices always come back down with new employees. They don't have time to look up prices so good deals ALWAYS slip through.

At the salvation army near my house every saturday they have 50% off, so I go there just before they open and grab the good stuff. I got a very nice printer that is on Amazon for $900.00 and I got it for $7.50 and I bought a collectable Beatles poster from the 70s, from Japan for $5.00, eBay has it for about $700.00...

Love ya Pete! I completely agree. I source Goodwills about 2 hours a day, all week long and maybe I make 1 or 2 dollars less on many items these days. Still, I find it did me a huge favor... Now more quality items go unsold and are just waiting for me to stop by and pick them up. I make about 5% less profit but I'm picking up about 25% more inventory - and moving it. dayum the prices at the Chi area GWs are cheap--around here (Seattle area) the combat boots alone would be tagged at $25 or more, I still find stuff to sell there and the local Savers--basically the only thrifts in the area because they can't look up everything--the key is that you have to know what you are looking at.

Our one local GoodWill is useless for flip items. The staff in the donation center is going online (ebay and amazon) for most electronic items. If they find someone is asking $100 bucks for an old POS speaker set? It gets priced at $99.99. I did get lucky with a surround speaker set for $29, but older audio gear and video games, TV's etc... All is full blown eBay pricing. Clothes aren't a huge issue, but older vintage clothes or other? Premium Pricing!

At my local Goodwill, there is not a lot of good stuff to flip. However, there are a couple o thrift stores near me that I get stuff to flip all the time. One of them even sends me text coupons for 50% off multiple times a week. And the thing about the Goodwills is that it depends on who's pricing and the kind of things being donated. For example, earlier this year I bought a Sega Genesis for 10 bucks for my personal use. Not a week later, they had another Sega Genesis behind the counter priced at 69.99. That thing sat there for two months until they marked it down to $20 (still too much to flip, but a good deal for someone wanting one for themselves).

different areas have regional prices- in s fl they asked for a 1980s singer sewing machine $35.99 . a missing water container older keurig coffee $25.00. t -shirts 4.99/ jeans $8.99 no good brands, they resell themselves. only good is suits, slacks ,sport jackets. 8.99 which need dry clean and alter still good deal. silk ties$ 2.00 picture frames if you look you can find some. good high $ brands are harder to find they cull them, like never before.

This depends on the country you are in. Over here in the U.K prices are higher in many cases and each charity has it's own shop. I have been to Canada a few times and big places like goodwill seem to be a much better idea. Prices seem to be more realistic over in the states.

You never know what you will find. I found a VooDoo 5500 graphics card that came with a VooDoo 2 also inside the box for $5.99 at my local goodwill. I sold the 5500 untested on eBay for $100 shipped FAST as hell, it hardly lasted 2 days on eBay. Your videos make me want to buy more things I find even though I don't want them lol. I really should try and get into always having a few things to sell, since I do see things I know often can be made a profit on when I'm looking around thrift stores.

I sell clothes on eBay and a few collectible items and i net a very good profit consistently on a monthly basis. I live in southern California and i believe that if you know your product and pick smart, you can make a decent living hustling from Goodwill.

I live in an area where I have a goodwill that is located 15 minutes from me and another that is located 30 minutes from me. The one that is 15 minutes away is not very good and is priced very high. The one that is located 30 minutes from me isnt as bad as the first and their prices are much more reasonable. Nothing nearly as close to the size as the one in this video. I found a Panasonic transcriber machine in MINT condition at the 30 mile away location for $3.99. These sell on ebay from $80-120 and go for more on Amazon.

Niche band with a strong following..I'm always on the lookout for Rush, Kiss, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd. These albums sell well. Goodwill prices depend on where they are located. Those shoes at my local GW would have been priced at $20 all day long. the Sewing machine $50+. Records $2.99-4.99. Over here prices are jacked up and most of the time they are priced well above retail. its not impossible to make money off of goodwill, but it has become challenging. Now I try to source other places besides GW.

It really depends on who the goodwill manager is and the location too. managers mark Price's up in the back looking prices up as Goodwill has a website that sells eBay Style.

Some of the Goodwills got so overpriced I could get the same Walmart or Target or Kohls shirt cheaper at Walmart, Target, or Kohls. Crazy! I now view Goodwill, Value Village, etc as treasure hunts, just like yard sales. I go on discount days mostly, Student, Senior, or the twice a month 50% off sale. I think they deliberately price high for the impulse person and then the sale days get the rest of us. So I go to church thrifts, flea markets, yard sales, sale days, clearance areas of retail stores, auctions, online auctions, what ever it takes. I also shop for individual weakness. One store sells all books for .10 cents each. One throws all the kids clothes in big bins and its .50 cents each piece. Another sells cds for $1. One store everything over 3mos in the store is 1/2 price, so I go at the beginning of each month. I keep a schedule in my head for the discount days. Focus on what you can do and forget about the rest.

I am an avid ebayer, my lifeline is Goodwill, Thrift Stores, Salvation Army and other’s. I have made a ton on eBay and honestly, I will always be a hunter. You are not going to win every time but I’ll take most of the time any day.

If people only look for clothes at goodwill. That's probably their problem. There is slot of stuff. The prices can be weird since They up the prices but mostly on The clothes but i gotta PlayStation 1 a few months ago. Not knowing What the tag was on that day.. It was priced for 19.99 with a 50 percent off tag it was 9.99 plus tx. All the cables a game and a controller. If you're looking for The right items on the right day. It's fine. I go for LPs mostly since they're 1.99 for me,at every store by me. Which isn't bad. But whenever I'm there I look in the Books electronics hats appliances Cds Vhs kitchenware video games. Sometimes clothes but I mostly do that else where when I can go and get stuff for a few bucks or. Under a buck. You just Have to be as you were .. Looking through all the items in the store. If you stick too one thing. It could be hit and miss..but If you learn everything category. And you're not into the niche market.. It's slot easier, when you're aware of all sorts of things. And know What their worth is even pre-owned. I look at everything.. I have certain items for certain stores. Just because it makes More sense to me. If it's not Worth the money,go too another end of the store. Keep yourself Open too. The whole store is great. My mom just got my nephew A 99cent Spiderman talking Mask. That's battery operated and Has adjustments for your head On the back. 0.99 for that kind of cool. It is for kids but just an example and I saw that saw day.. The original Star Wars original score soundtrack for 1.99 (forgot about it after looking at stuff cus we were going too two stores ) might of been banged up. Just Saying again. You have to get Yourself familar with the entire store. And stay Knowledgeable About various categories ... There is slot of things. If you stayed even 25 to 50 minutes. Browsing or if you had A list with you..

I find Goodwill to be an excellent source for small/medium sized vintage electronics and I find many books there...I have also discovered the Goodwill pay by the pound stores and those are even more profitable, they take a little more work but the stuff you can find is VERY interesting

I actually live near a pretty decent Goodwill. That sewing machine would have been $19.99 and those boots $12.99. It all depends on where you live. Yes Goodwill is catching on but I think they send too much too their online store. I know some people that hang out all day at the store and may not get anything good.

Our Salvation army closed up awhile back but it don't matter. Been watchin Mr. Pete for awhile now n he has educated me so much about ebay. And all his old stuff about records/Lps. Pete is the man. Depends on to which GW you go and at what section you are looking. It is very hard to find profit for me at my local GW, but they do have some weak spots, which are my fav sections to go to. I think our locals sell a lot of the donated stuff online, while others might not.

I find a lot of stuff is priced too high and can’t be resold, but at that point I just move on. It’s hard sometimes because even if it’s only a couple dollars sometimes it’s hard to pass stuff up you know will sell fast. I look at things like this; even if you only make $30 off Something, if you have 1000 items selling you are going to make some good money. I honestly don’t pass up too much stuff I think will sell. I have about 1800 items for sale and make good money on the “Bay” that’s my goofy word for EBay. Sometimes my stuff sits for a while but eventually everything sells. A couple things that bother me is things the store overpriced because of fast sales, too many people shopping at one time, and people that let their kids run free in stores. Those are my pet peeves, other than that I absolutely love to thrift shop and sell online. I wish I could do it for a living, I have sold more stuff online than anyone I know and have made a ton, I’m not bragging trust me I spend every waking moment shopping and every extra penny buying, sometimes I overspend and I know I’m gonna get in trouble with the wife (Boss) but in the end it’s my passion and anyone and everyone has the same ability to do this so don’t hate people that do it and are trying to make money or actually are making money because you could do it too!!

People are not thinking of looking at calenders to find the 50% off days and other sales. Four major thrift stores in my area. Goodwill, Savers, Unique and Arc Value village. All have sale days. Then theres Good Will outlets as well. Plan out the sale calendars with your free time for sourcing.

What I love about Goodwill is their willingness to bend on price when your buying a bunch of something. I always ask and I say 3 times out of 4 they will lower the price, but its probably because Im in there alot so they know me. Also here in Hawaii most all the Goodwills are very limited on retail space so they need to move stuff fast.

there's always money to be made... I buy game parts for a few dollars and turn it into 20 to 30 dollars or more. I buy clothes, shoes, cds, books and other stuff I have 4 goodwills I go to. I am about to expand to more goodwills to make more money on ebay....

Picking Goodwill HAS changed though. Prices are too high, stock has depleted, I used to sell used jeans and was making decent money, the last 2 years, jeans are slim pickin'. Shows like storage wars and others showing how much money to can be made from picking and re-selling from thrift stores drove demand up. Maybe it's just the Denver market, but it's not what it once was.

great video Pete! I make great money from Goodwill all the time! BTW, that Styx "Cornerstone" album was one of my favorites back in the day. All my 15 year old wants for Christmas is an LP player and tons of classic rock albums. I knew I should have saved mine - I had all the ones he wants!

I wish I had luck at any of the 6 Goodwill stores withing 20 minutes of me... they all seem to keep 20% of their merchandise on the "specialty racks" with jacked up prices, and sell used purses and shoes and accessories at prices higher than my local high end consignment shops. I've found items priced higher at the Goodwill store than the sale/clearance tags still on the items from the original retailer. I have pretty much stopped even trying Goodwill... I do have good luck with Salvation Army still and a lot of small church ran or mom and pop thrift stores in the area.
