Diablo drop off has been on my bucket list of obstacle to do for awhile now. We've tried 2 times to do this obstacle and every time something has prevented us from reaching it. Im glad that today we were able to cross it off our list.
Honestly....it's not that hard of an obstacle going down. I really think either...the obstacle was really a challenge before or the name just gave it some menacing sounding title but it's not hard going down in 2wd.
Going up however might be a challenge...however from my research technically it's a one way obstacle but that hasn't stop people from going up. Any 4x4 would have no issue accomplishing this obstacle going up.

The difference between 2WD and 4WD is that 2WD allows you to get stuck closed to help

@@Michael_Tran Coyote Canyon to Sheep Canyon on the north side is cool. It would be interesting to see someone do the steep rocky section after the 3rd crossing in 2WD. It should be doable w/ Auto LSD egaged.

Damn i need to stop watching your videos. I have a new 2023 F-150 XL single cab.... I just put on all terrain tires and raised the front end with new Fox performance coil overs to level it.... your videos make me want to take it out on trails. But.... Damn it scares me. Hahaha

I remember wanting to off road for the first time and being super sketch at every obstacle. It just like anything...takes time and experience to build up your confident. So you just need to start small and slowly build up your confident and know your rig and it's capability as well

Years ago I met a couple, man and woman, who's taken their old Volvo station wagon down the drop-off. My friend and I had driven our Scouts down it and at the bottom there was this car... I don't recall if they said they were lost or what. I assume they had to keep going on out to FCW somehow. But the drop-off wasn't as rutted back in those days.

There use to be a fence for that side hill “offshoot”. Hopefully they put it back up to preserve the land.

Just go down to lower gears and go slow and you should be fine. There's only one diablo drop off but people have made other off shoots so im not sure if that's legal or not

Yes. You can. The vehicle doesn't have to be built up either. Just capable and stock.

Nice that you made it down diablo drop in 2wd. I did it for the first time myself Thanksgiving last year. Diablo drop off wasn't too bad as it sounds. I was nervous doing it as well.

It's changed quite a bit (as do a lot of these roads over time)...watch older videos and it looks far more difficult

Is it possible for a stock height 2WD 2010 Nissan Murano to make it through Arroyo Seco Del Diablo and Diablo Drop-Off to get to Fish Creek, especially if it takes the smoothest and careful-est path around obstacles? I will be following the Murano in my lifted 4x4 truck as a recovery vehicle, but I want to know if the Murano can make it without my help. Thank you for your advice! Great video!

I've always use Gaia gps on the trail it usually pretty good about letting you know where on the trail everything is.

I took my 73 Datsun 2wd down that hill around 1981. No problem. It was all smooth deep sand back then. Also down the big sand drop off coming north out of Painted Gorge with 3 friends standing on the rear end to keep it down. At the Pinyon Mountain Drop off I turned around and went back. :) I don't live in San Diego anymore and I'm guessing that the quiet deserted trails we used to drive 40 years ago have now become a highway of every body who writes a check for a 4WD. Just like surfing at Windansea etc.

You’re gonna have to take the ‘21 UP Diablo next time! Also, for smaller more secluded campsites out there, try Sandstone Canyon, northwest of the drop off. Good times!
