Thank you for this very fun video series! I envy London's wealth of recreational paths allowing people to enjoy a bike or walking tour and very nice camping so near a huge city without much danger from cars. It looks wonderful! Subscribed.

The T-bag is brilliant. I am glad I got one of the last ones available. With an elastic cargo net to close the unrolled top, it's capacity for lighter stuff is huge.

Yes exactly..... your Brommie was great until you hit the soft, sticky mud on that rutted up canal path. And then you were digging out mud every few feet. Been there!! I also love mine and have taken it touring. My next trip will be to Spain and I'm really excited to explore and cycle and pop on the train or bus whenever I need to. Awesome little bike.

Nice adventure, beautiful scenery and good filming. For anyone here dropping by, and interested in Brompton bike touring videos, Susanna Thornton and Miriam Kennedy's channels are also worth visiting/subscribing to. I don't own a Brompton but it is tempting, seeing how nice adventures people are having with them (and how easy it is to combine with other modes of transportation).

@@bikenomic1363 that would be interesting. I am considering the Vincita Nash bag as it seems to fit well, but it doesn't look anywhere near as big as your rucksack.

Goodness, 14kg on your back that's hard going. I took 20 kg for a trial run, 8 in the front C bag + 12kg in the back ruck sack mounted to the saddle, with the ruck sack "sat" on the rear rack, that is doable. I don't think I can do 14kg on the shoulders. Kudos and so much fun.

Where you able to fix the rack on the bike? I'd like to see the end result if you did as I'm thinking of buying a cheaper rack like this for mine. Great channel too. Keep posting, I really enjoy your video 👍

That looked miserable weather. Rather you than me. I just came back from 2 weeks touring on my Brompton on Gran Canaria wild camping each night. A spectacular island to ride a bike. Hard as the hills and mountains are so steep, but the scenery is fantastic. You will need a 39T front chain ring or less as you won't get up many of the hills otherwise. My Brompton performed with distinction. I have also toured in the Pyrenees on it for three weeks but that was back in 2004 and was actually my first Brompton which was stolen outside London University HQ in Malet Street. The Brompton is more than capable of touring and not just flat easy touring. I have the original Brompton Carradice T bag with all steel frame and it is very good indeed. I just bought another off Ebay which is in mint/new condition should mine ever fail or wear out.

@bikenomic1363 2 жыл бұрын
Sure. I weight 82Kg the total weight I carried was 20Kg (14kg in the rugsack and 6 on the T bag). So 102Kg in total which she handles pretty well. Hope that helps

would the touring be more comfortable if change to a softer suspension block? I found the default standard suspension block a bit to hard to ride on bumpy road. Or will change of seat help?
@bikenomic1363
@bikenomic1363 2 жыл бұрын
I do know lots of people change the suspension block with a modified version. On this trip the paths were pretty good so didn't have problem .Also carrying a touring load the frame was more flexible than without a load and gave a softer ride. I will be taking a longer trip this summer so will be more able to answer that question more fully. Thanks

Do you have the 6 speed with reduced gearing/crank teeth? Would you say it would be necessary for touring on more hilly routes? Great vid. Thanks 👍
@bikenomic1363
@bikenomic1363 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, I have been thinking about this as well. On this trip which was mainly flat just had the standard gears and was fine carrying 20Kg. On very hilly areas I would definitely consider reduced gearing. I think I may well do another trip to more hilly areas this summer to see how the standard gears work first so watch this space 😀

Reduced gearing is a must!
@alexmorgan3435
@alexmorgan3435 2 жыл бұрын
The Brompton is ridiculously over geared. With the Brompton cranks the smallest front chain ring you can fit is 39T which I recommend doing as on a loaded bike you will need lower gears to get up long steep hills otherwise you will be pushing. Initially I had a std 50T ring then went for the 44T which does not lower the gearing enough so fitted a Shimano Ultegra 39T mid ring which works perfectly. I can get up most very steep hills now. I might try a 34 or 36T in the future although this will mean fitting a new spider as the smallest ring the Brompton crank will take is 39T I think.
