Couldn’t agree more! I bought mine just are Covid and it’s quite literally changed my life. I commute 110 miles a miles every week on my Brommy and after 4 years and many thousands of arduous miles it literally hasn’t missed a single beat. I’ve invested in 7 upgrades on my original M6L:- 1. A Brooks B17 saddle 2. A set of Ergon GP1 leather grips 3. Brompton’s Super Light pedals 4. The improved Lezyne pump 5. The Cateye BM-45 Bike Mirror 6. The 20L Waterproof Metro bag 7. Silica’s chain waxing system Chain waxing is literally the best thing since sliced bread. I run 3 chains in succession, swapping out a fresh one every 200 - 250 miles. Each chain has now done over 1,000 miles and my Park Tool chain checker hasn’t found any discernible wear in any of them; they’re literally as good as brand new! Both the 13 & 16 sprockets are completely wear free as well. I will NEVER go back to traditional chain oils ever again.

I average 12.8 mph on my beloved Brompton; that’s roughly 5 times quicker than walking. Also, I can take it on any train, bus, taxi or aeroplane and it’s more reliable than a wood burning stove. In short, The Brompton is quite literally the Swiss Army knife of the cycling world and I absolutely adore mine. ❤

Lots of interesting things to see about this new Prompto folding bike. I'm on fire. I also have a small Peugeot Partnet van camping car that I have built. This bike could be the perfect solution. A 20" folding bike no longer fits inside, but this one does. I will start watching all these videos of yours. have a good weekend!

Excellent video series, thank you for posting it. I am planning a 633km ride in So. Korea ("Seoul to Busan" / "cross-country" ride) in fall 2025 over seven days, and plan to take my Brompton M6R. I learned that So. Korea can very picky about the types of bikes they allow on public transport, however if you place a cover over your folded Brompton, nobody raises any objections to it on trains, buses, and in hotels because there is little chance of the bike coming into contact with others and soiling their clothing. I will be 67 when I attempt this adventure, and freshly retired. Lastly, there are a few significant ascents on this ride, so I plan to install a 39-tooth chain ring on my Brompton. Cheers!

Nice setup, bike and campervan. I borrowed my folks' campervan to follow the TdF a couple of times and really loved the freedom. As I rarely used a campsite, it meant having an "Aussie shower" in the van after cycling, by using some soap, a few flannels and a bucket of warm water to wash. This worked well, as thanks to The League of Gentlemen, the trick was to colour-code the cloths into a rhyme... White for hands Brown for feet Green for torso, thighs and seat And in the cupboard under there, is the one for... you-know-where! 🤗 Happy travels!

Dear BikeEconomic thank you so much for your video. I appreciate all the effort to show us a different lifestyle. The Brompton is a beautiful bike that its out of my reach here in Mexico. However probably some day I will be able to get one. Also, I enjoy the beauty of the country in UK. All the best and we are waiting for the next video.

Great video. i think you have a lot of charisma BUT ..... Video quality is a little poor here where i am thought i would let you know maybe due to low light ?? Iphone 16 or Sony A III ? ....... Great thing about the brompton is that you can use to fetch a mechanic or fuel if your 30 year old VW camper van breaks down while out and about 🙂PS A tip from me....... If you are in a rush and need to clean yourself - get 4 soft 40 x 40 cm micro fiber cloths and put them into a small bowl with hot water ( half a kettle for example ) well soaked put 3 to the side ( do not wring out ) use the 4th one to wash yourself with a bar of Soap not shampoo ( shampoo has to many suds ) wash yourself then use the 3 remaining cloths ( which are only hot water ) which are still hot and wet to rinse of what you washed with the first cloth.... To clean the 4 cloths use cold water and rinse them off thoroughly.... It works well ! and is a quick and capable way to clean yourself... not as good as a shower but still effective.

Thanks for sharing. I do find the narrow handle bars and small wheels once you have got used to them ideal for riding in busy towns and cities. Really responsive and able to go through the tightest gaps with ease..... Whilst not interested myself, I have seen someone on KZbin who has attached a kick stand but unfortunately I can't remember which. Having just brought my Brompton electric I am watching lots of videos to learn!

Thank you for your video. I was considering buying a handle, however watching your video I have changed my mind. I do have the advanced roller system which makes moving it whilst folded at train stations and the like quite easy and as for carrying it whilst not folded, watching you. it wouldn't take much more effort than to drop your hands down a couple of inches and lifting the bike from under the bar your handle was strapped too. And there is the question of long term damage to paint work.... for me a deal breaker..... But I'm glad you are pleased with it and thanks again for sharing

Mmm having just brought my electric P line I am wondering about whether to change my saddle for more comfort. However at 67 I do consider the weight for lifting rather than riding fast which I don't. I am a little confused when people with Brompton's complain about costs..... When you pay £4000 plus for a quality Brompton like mine, why would you not opt for quality rather than settle for cheap accessories!

Best mods for my Bromptons were.... Ergon GP3 Grips. Monkii Cage bottle holder. Brooks saddle. SKS removable pedals, with half toe clips. But the best one by far, as Bromptons are geared way too high..... A 39T chainring.... Forget the Brompton 44T, it's still too high, so get your own 39T, and shorten the chain a little. And finally, get a second hand brompton and save a lot of money. Most Brompton owners either hardly ever ride them, or look after them.

Yes exactly..... your Brommie was great until you hit the soft, sticky mud on that rutted up canal path. And then you were digging out mud every few feet. Been there!! I also love mine and have taken it touring. My next trip will be to Spain and I'm really excited to explore and cycle and pop on the train or bus whenever I need to. Awesome little bike.

Couldn’t agree more. I love my Brompton. It takes a little getting used to the twitchiness of the handling, it’s almost too nimble at first ride. But once you’re over that, it’s the only bike I’ve ever ridden that I’m not worried about parking anywhere. It will literally go anywhere. It’s brilliant. I normally get on the train with mine. But when I can’t, like the train is cancelled. I just go for a longer ride, I’m not stuck like everyone else. It’s great. I am thinking about upgrading to an arc conversion, to smooth out the massive hills in my area. And tempted by the g line haha. But we’ll see.

Just because it is an official Brompton part does not make it good quality, at least from the perspective of a person who built and raced high-quallity, Campagnolo-equipped Italian steel-framed roadbikes for decades. Those plastic shifters and the pump look pretty cheesy to me, and the platform around the bottom bracket is anything but elegant. Some nice lugs on the frame joints would lend some class too. I like the functionality of these folders, but the details could use some upgrading, especially at the prices they are asking these days. There seems to be just a bit of snob appeal to these things that does not seem to be reflected in the for build quality for dolllar spent equation. I do own a folder - a nice aluminum-framed Giant Expressway - and use it a lot. Except for the form factor when folded, it outperforms and outspecs the Brompton in nearly every other way. .

I'm considering getting an A-line because I'm cheap. I've got a knockoff bike called a Mobic I got for $100 at the local bike clinic and I need to do some work on it to get it roadworthy. But I was able to ride it home and it was a surprisingly nice ride. 20-inch wheels and I know a Brompton's got 16-inch wheels. Same as my bike trailer. My main bike now is an Electra cruiser, bought because it was a lot of bike for $300 and between panniers and hanging bags off the handlebars can carry a lot.

Nobody talks about THAT. Everyone swears small wheel bikes can be just as easy to pedal if you get the gearing right. Its simply not true. It DOES take more effort and sustained torque from your legs to keep a small wheel bike rolling. And there is a diminishing return at higher speed.

I'm 6'3" and 205 lbs and have the extended seatpost on a 6 speed c type. i was going to sell it but everytime I see it folded in my den I would change my mind. once you get the seatpost height dialed in and get the shifting down and keep the psi at 100 lbs I am always amazed at how well it rides compared to a large bicycle. they are great.

They are great bikes certainly, and feature some excellent design and engineering....howeverwhen I was shopping for my folder several years ago, I ended up buying a Mezzo D10. (Sadly no longer in production which seems nuts!) It was actually cheaper and had a better level of standard equipment. It also folds very cleverly into a small package, although it is a tad longer than the Brompton when folded. Despite being sll aluminium framed, uts still not very lightweight to lug around, but dies have the little trolly wheels to assist on platforms or smooth surfaces. Its a little faster to fold and unfold too, as the central curved beam of the frame is a single piece and does not require any clamp with a screw fitting. Otherwise, it folds almost exactly like the Brompton. The pedals are both foldable and are the ecact same size too. (Having one smaller than the other does seem a bit binkers to me!!) The other selling point for me is that the Mezzo uses standard off the shelf Shimano gears and many other standard and readily available parts that do not require very pricey bespoke Brompton bits and bobs. It has a decent full size luggage rack and I opted to buy the two different bags that go on it; the large commuter bag (which is great and carries a decent load!) and the smaller but zip extendable travel pack. Both bags have detachable should straps for carrying them off the bike once you fold it. The commuter bag is a large size briefcase/laptop bag with padded protection, refelctive highlights and panels and tabs to attach lights to. Both bsgs came with waterproof covers in bright yellow, but they are very waterproof anyway. I think Bromptons have the edge on looks, with elegant lines and are a genuine design classic, (available in a range of lovely colours too; the D10 was only available in a hard anodised black finish, which is bullet proof!) but I was on a very tight budget and found the ride comfort and the excellent use of standard bike parts was the winner......oh, and of course, I forgot to say, its a full ten speed bike with excellent ratios!! 😊

Very thorough and thoughtful review. But hinge clamps look like antique tech; compare the bulletproof hinges on the Tern. And the B's flimsy plastic gear changer mounted awkwardly on a cheap looking handlebar, whereas the gear shifter is integrated into the handlebar on my Tern C8, a much more robust, tho' heavier and bigger, design. The Brompton has a "Rube Goldberg" look to this American-i.e., awkward technology- a cottage industry appearance. The design is clever and it does make you feel "English" or "British". But its diminutive scale and small wheels do not inspire confidence in this Californian. The cockpit of the Brommy feels cramped and too "vertical", whereas the Taiwanese Tern and Dahon bikes are much more sophisticated tech. The range of "fixes" for components on the B. speaks directly to the "rube goldberg" appearance I'm describing.

I bought mine in a trip to London last winter where they go for far cheaper used. Pros: folds small, steel frame, good hand built quality, many after market parts, has devoted following by fans, able to take just about any train/Subway/store/hotel with no issues or extra bike fee, upright sitting position, holds value for a long time, customizable Cons: heavy, expensive, 1/3 gears set are inadequate for steep hills, complex construction (just look how long it takes to fix a flat rear tire), use quad muscle more than a road bike, need more tools to carry on than a typical bike, cannot muscle up hills like I do on a road bike but have to walk the bike up steep hills (I ride 3 gear brompton).

Just stumbled upon your channel and binge watched the Brompton episodes. Great content. After a lifetime of cycling, competitively to national level when younger and since then purely for fun, I can honestly say that the Brompton is my all time favourite bike. Whenever anyone mentions the cost of the Brompton I always inform them that my full carbon MTB cost over 4x the Brompton but gets a fraction of the use and functionality. I really don't understand how any cyclist cant have one in their stable. Great videos by the way. I've had the same saddle for a few years and still good as new.
