Yes, 2 weeks ago I finished a Transalp, from Germany to Lake Garda in Italy over the Dolomites. 470KM and nearly 14000 vertical meters in 7 days and amazing amazing amazing scenery. Not as wild as your Wales tour, but a lot of great and challenging trails. Wonderful mountain scenery. we also did some trail blazing as we didn't take a tried and true route. I did it with 1 battery and no support team on a 2020 Cube 160 TM. Charge where possible on the way. My riding partner was on a Cube race 140 and he took 2 batteries. His bum suffered with the extra weight in the backpack. I can totally recommend it. Memories that will last a lifetime. Loved watching your fantastic video. I am already planning my next adverture.

@Marie Decuyper Riding in winter is not a problem. I have seen a few people that use a neoprene cover on their battery to help keep it warm. The colder it is, the less miles you seem to get out of it. Wit charging off road. I took the Bosch 6A Fastcharger with me on my transalp. It wasn't a problem to charge up anywhere I tried (Use common sense). Occasionally a fee of up to €5.00 was asked for charging. but most places allowed you to load for free. I left a bit more tip. As regards to flying with batteries.. I haven't tried it, but have often heard that you can't. Your best bet is to take the bikes without batteries and find a place at your destination where you can rent a battery or two.

Did the continental divide trail (Canada to mexico, through the US, total-2500 miles) ride twice, once on an e-bike, then on a fat bike... Still working on the trans american trail, it's only 5000 miles ...
@thomasraven20244 жыл бұрын
How did you manage the battery situation?
@timlubbers28844 жыл бұрын
@@thomasraven2024 I took the output of the battery charger and mimic that in a group of 12volt battery cells that (as 12volt groups) could be charged with a solar panel. When the 12volt groups were charged, I combined them to match the bikes battery voltage. Then I used a mini charge isolation unit to ensure the batteries charged and didn't just level off with the dead batteries. With a home made switch box, mini isolator and batteries it is able to fit in my rear rack "tool/utility bag"... All of the above is a work in progress, so it's changing monthly as I refine the idea... Note, on cloudy days I rolled with no power at times or only used the battery while climbing. I had better luck in the south were the sun was higher longer, up north the sun was up longer, but not as high... I also carried 2 batteries, so on a good day I could get 100-130 miles out of my range, so alot of times (in the north) I was able to pass towns and would beg the locals for power, usually churches, cop shops and restaurants... All in all, it was a fun trip, because it's still a new process to bike travel distances with a unsupported ebike, the challenge was real...
