Can you use a $15.88 Walmart soldering iron to do serious soldering?

Will the cheap solder fix a xbox series s HDMI port ??

Hi. I've never done one of those so I'm not sure what's involved. It's like an SMD style port. I would guess that it could be done with lots of liquid flux and some good solder. I wouldn't try it with the solder that comes with the cheap soldering iron. In all cases, you're better off with a $35 to $50 soldering iron from a good name than the cheap one from Walmart.

I just had a look at a video of the repair. It looks straight forward. There are four large holes for mounting the HDMI port which may be a challenge to get desoldered with a cheap iron but you should be able to do it. Desoldering the connector will require patience to heat and carefully lift each pin. Once you have it off, clean it up with flux and solder wick then carefully line up the replacement port, tack down one pin at each end, make sure it's aligned, and solder the rest of the pins and the mounting holes. It should be straight forward.
