I'm glad I'm not the only one who plays old car roulette, our "new" car is 10 and my daily is 20, my rover is 18, I won't mention the "classics"

I owned a 2003 XJ8 and parted ways with it because of the fiddliness of the check engine codes. One day it would be the fuel sending unit, the next it would be idling rough due to driving in the rain! The car was built in England! I cleaned the MAF sensor, throttle body, etc. to no end. What a POS. Beautiful and drove beautifully for the few minutes it didn’t have problems but, oh my God, never again.

Yes you can. I used a 2000 xj8 4.0 2020 to 2022 no issues. Now running a 2008 xj r I do about 8k miles a year. Just keep them well serviced

I am currentlly looking for such a car, but I have a hard time deciding if I should look either for an XJR or an XJ. Also couldnt find anything if the XJRs also exist in the LWB version.
@jaromor88084 ай бұрын
@@vHindenburg What you could call "the LWB of XJR" was called "Super V8 LWB." Super V8 *SWB* was sold too, but was very rare as the only difference from XJR was the comfort level of the suspension. All XJs had air-suspension but the one on XJRs was tuned more into "Sport." In other words: stretch the XJR, replace the Comfort air-struts with Sport air-struts - and the result is Super V8 LWB. I believe the 2008-2009 (x358) XJRs are more rare than the Super V8. If you can get your hands on an 08-09 Portfolio you'll be super-lucky - those had deep blue interior with white piping 😍, but the prices of those are already rather silly...

It all comes down to properly maintaining them. I had a 1998 Jaguar XJR8, lowered, under drive pulley, upper pulley, intake, larger Intercooler and Intercooler pump and new tensioners and transmissions before some guy in a Hyundai rear ended me and totaled my car. These are very reliable. I also had 2 XJR6s (supercharged inline 6 cylinders) which are even more reliable than fantastic.

Godspeed. Our V70 R has been from NY to Maine and Boston several times in the past year. Lost a fuel rail pressure sensor once, was really fun when the car started bucking randomly on the highway

I have an 01 with 75k miles that i daily now. IMO worst thing for these cars is to let them sit, voltage issues were the problem with my resticted performance and random electrical grimlins.

Just made a 450mile trip myself in a 2005 xjr with the same restriction. Made it one piece. They have quirks yes. But actually reliable to a degree

Seems fuel is an issue for the Jag. Great cross country car that.

My 04 XJR had radar cruise control and it was slightly terrifying. Dark shadows from over passes would sometimes engage the brakes quickly. The gas and brakes always engaged abruptly as well. Got your attention for sure.
@jaromor88084 ай бұрын
The ACC is radar-based. (The radar array is actually _moving_ from side to side within the ACC box)... I.e. nothing to do with lights/shadows. More likely the bumps from the road messing with contacts within the ACC - they like to rust/oxidize BADLY. The author of the Jagdroid has an excellent thread on this topic with tons of photos.

The Jaguar is the only one I would want to sit in for hours of your cars. Sorry. But I just don’t like big 4x4’s. Great for winter, but utterly boring on highways and country roads.

L322 was the car but you broke it. Also, funny that your head hits the roof in the Jag.
