Can you use a Cat 5/Cat 6 Ethernet cable as an audio cable? Lets find out.
It seems that it did work pretty good for my application.

A retired engineer with a hi-end audiophile system, says you can use Cat5 and 5E, for RCA type interconnects and these sounds as good as $200 to $300 audiophile interconnects. And the thing to keep in mind is those cables start at that price, usually for half a meter. The solid core cables are better though for audiophile. That's why I'm here, I have some Cat5E cables and I need to make a couple RCA's for a hi-end Streamer I bought.

Little brick Dells are cheap and make good dedicated media boxes to integrate into audio/video/stereos systems if you want something permanent. Been doing that for a longtime now. Great for YT vids and they do a good job as PVRs and audio recorders as well.

Perhaps a CAT 6 or 7 cable with shielding is more suitable ... so when you hear the audio you will hear a lot of 60hz hummm that gets worse if you pass by transformers or electrical charges.

Go to 7:00 in this video --> kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHq3ZaWXa7KiZtU . You should have put flux on the leads of the jacks and on the tips of the wires BEFORE you tinned them.

This will get you out of a spot... Don't do it for long runs or places where there is a lot of noise. This unbalances the cable and takes away 80% of it's ability to reject noise. Don't even do this if your neighbour is a Ham Radio operator or you live close to a radio station TX site!

I have got an external DAC (digital to analogic converter) connected to my PC via USB port and the analogic sound coming out from the DAC is considerably better than the one coming out from the internal PC DAC.
@FulvioGa

@@jasejj I am sorry I was not clear, I was talking about the DAC not the cable. I meant to say that an external DAC can be an actual sound improvement. On the other hand, a USB cable cannot be longer than a few meters/feet.

It seems to be a byproduct of providing content. No big deal. Prior to trying this on an expensive project, I would like to know of any potential down sides. Contrary comments can be helpful, and aren't necessarily hate. They can be informative. Expecting every commenter to reply like a cult member in a love bombing phase is not rational.

One problem he has is, most equipment uses the tip as a right channel and the middle as left and the 3rd as ground.

I am using all 4 pairs in parallel as speaker cable. good way to get a cheap long lead for this use, using cable that was removed from service in an upgrade. Much better than the cheap speaker wire, which is often these days mystery metal wire, a few strands in a cheap recycled plastic. just have to make sure i am not using the copper plated aluminium wire, but those are also usable if you are not soldering them in to place, just use crimp connectors each end.

@@buildstoys Sorry, was responding to the poster Morenormal that it will not pick up hum, as it is a twisted pair, and thus will cancel out hum induced in it quite well. Even phone cabling will work quite well, even with the much lower twist count, and it has quite low crosstalk even in massive multipair bundles, carrying all sorts of DSL data on separate connection pairs to various households.

Steve, we've used all different types of wire for audio over the yrs and never had any issues, in fact I also used ethernet cables for many different versions etc.... At one time there were so many around once ethernet became somewhat obsolete.

@@norcal715 Just today I pulled out of a recycling bin LG 50LA660s. It has a led logo under the screen. When I press power button, it lights up and than goes off. I checked voltages on the power board connectors, seams fine. I disconnected tcon and backlight, same effect. Seams like a main board issue. Any suggestions?
