Can you use filters on the Fuji 30mm TS tilt/shift lens. What sizes fit and will adapters work

The Fujifilm 30mm f/5.6 TS tilt shift lens comes with two lens caps and various adapter rings. How does this impact the use of filters. Testing some different sizes and why you need to be careful.
The lens works fine with filters, if you can get them attached to the non standard thread at the end of the lens barrel.

As I wrote Keith a few weeks ago, the Kase Wolverine magnetic filters will work on the 30 mm T/S lens. If you already have the Kase 112mm Wolverine Magnetic filters, you will need to buy their 105mm to 112mm adapter. The adapter screws into the lens hood with the 105mm thread. Then place 112 mm magnetic filters onto the magnetic 105 to 112 filter ring adapter. I should mention that you SHOULD NOT screw the adapter in "too tight" as there is little room between the adapter and inside of the lens hood to get a good grip for removing the adapter ring. I would think that would be a problem with any 105 to 112 mm step up ring, not just with the Kase magnetic system. Kase's magnetic Wolverine filters will fit inside the lens hood of the 30 mm T/S, but again "finger space" is limited. Just another suggestion for how to use filters on an otherwise very, very nice lens. To Keith, thanks again for all your wonderful videos and articles. I have learned so much from your educational material whether it be on T/S lenses ( have your book ), especially printing and just anything else you wish to teach or share with us. I check for your new videos, almost every day.

Thanks for that note. I've never seen any @KaseFiltersUK filters I'll have a more in-depth look at this aspect when I've got a 30mm TS of my own.

The NiSi 150mm square filter system fits natively without adapters on the Fuji 30mm T/S lens. It has a native filter thread of 105mm. No adapter rings needed. I think there is a reason they went with an 105mm filter thread because if you would have an 80mm circular filter and if the lens would not have a protruding front element so you could screw it on you would get vignetting from the filter.

Thanks for mentioning that. Of course, I can only test the filters I have - but 82mm IS usable with a 105>82mm adapter Not an ideal choice, but several people asked me about the fittings on the lens

@@KeithCooper And there are no problems with vignetting with 82mm filters if shifting to the extremes?
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Ай бұрын
No - I tested this specifically before making the video. I'd not have included it otherwise. The 105mm filter setting for the 30mm TS is via an adapter ring [80>105] just that it comes with the lens ;-) With full diagonal shift I was able to see some slight potential darkening with the 82mm, but of course, this is right at the edge of the image circle any way. A thin filter will help It's not an ideal solutions, but I did want to know if I could use it if nothing else was available. I'm not a fan of filters in general, but I do recognise the occasional need for them in some of my work

@@KeithCooper I‘m in a similar situation. Already having a 100mm filter system and buying an extra set of extra expensive 150mm filters and a new 150mm filter holder just for that lens is also not an ideal solution… 😊

I am intrigued as to why Fuji used an 80mm filter ring when they probably know that it is not a common (or available) size. Maybe they didn't want people to use filters? It would seem to be relatively easy to engineer the common 82 or 77mm size or at least thread the 77mm adapter to fit filters. There must be a specific reason. Thank you for the clear explanation and advice as always.
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Ай бұрын
Thanks - I think they just want you to use 105mm filters - that 80->77mm ring could easily have had a thread on the 77mm side rather than the groove.

Hi Keith, what do you think about the GFX 100S II vs the GFX 100II? Given they now have the same sensor, doesn't seem to be much benefit for architectural / tripod use to choose the 100 II over the S II, as they now have the same sensor. S II seems to be the one to go for, for tripod use only? Thanks
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Ай бұрын
There's nothing much between them that would make me throw my hands up and rush to swap out my GFX100 for either ;-) I've tried the 100 II and likely will get a look at the 100S II some time Yes, there are lots of subtle differences, but not in areas I use. I'm still rather disappointed by the very clunky usability of multi-shot, compared with, say, the Panasonic S1R I tested in 2019

@@KeithCooper sure, but for people who haven’t got a GFX 100, then my point is that 100S II makes more sense than the GFX 100 II for architectural / tripod work, where the minor extra features of the II over the S II aren’t relevant. Thanks for your point of view.

Dear Keith, is it possible to use the tele converter with the Fujifilm GF 30mm TS like the Canon 24mm TS-E with its 1.4x & 2.0 tele converter? Appreciate your answer.

Keith, if you make a homemade adapter 80mm - 86 or 95 or 105 mm, won’t there be vignetting at a 15mm shift? I turn them myself on a lathe, it will be very useful to know. I could send one for trying on, but I may not be able to send it from the Russian Federation. Is the thread pitch standard 0.75 mm?
@KeithCooper
@KeithCooper Ай бұрын
No - virtually no vignetting even at full shift. The f/5.6 aperture helps The ideal adapter would be an 80 to 82mm step up ring for me. I need to get my micrometer out to measure the pitch and diameter a bit more accurately - I've nothing at 80mm to test it with.
