Testing and using the Fuji GF 30/3.5 prime lens on the medium format GFX100S. Looking at interior photography location and image editing choices. Using the 30mm focal length - compositional choices.
In advance of testing the new 30mm tilt/shift lens, I've been looking at the standard 30/3.5. Image quality and how much image correction is needed or desired.
For my look at the Laowa 17mm lens, shooting architectural images, in the same location, see the [40 mins] video
• Review: GFX100S + Laow...
The interior photos of the location shown in this [30mm] video start around 14mins into the 17mm video

Dear Keith, could you please share your insights on the experience of focusing with the GF shift/tilt lens, in particular while using the tilt function? From my LF experience, tilting with a camera which doesn't have the tilt axis passing through the film, is a really frustrating iterative process. It seems that the tilting of the Fuji lens still takes place around an axis which is quite in front of the sensor. Bottom line is whether the tilt function is useful in comparison to focus stacking. Of course, no doubt the shift function is useful to an extend. Your comments would be much appreciated. Thank you so much for your in-depth videos!

With tilt, I use a couple of different approaches depending on the subject - Have you read the actual [written] review for the 30mm TS? www.northlight-images.co.uk/fuji-30mm-ts-review/ I've quite a few notes there and links to related articles. Remember, my videos are always supplemental to the written review ;-) Stacking can certainly work with tilt, but it's not an approach I'd leap to for this focal length BTW Email me at Northlight if you like - I'm not entirely certain of your tilt axis comment? The various tilt axes on the 5x4 at the back of my desk [MPP] have no connection with the film plane? I'm always looking for more examples of tilt/shift use I can include in videos

Thank you Keith for another excellent video, sorry to hear about your dad. If you get a chance in the future it would be great to hear about how you go about storing, organising and cataloguing your images, obviously not with Lightroom ;)

Thanks for that. A subject I'll return to when I look at how I'm going to use the new Mac Studio - a move like this allows me to change/refine workflows

Keith, great review of the 30mm non-TS lens. Will be interesting to see how the 30mm TS lens compares. I've ordered my copy of the 30mm TS lens and will hopefully be able to use it in late October. I also noticed that you switched to a MacStudio. What specs did you go for in that upgrade? I upgraded to a 128GB RAM because I was running out of RAM on my MacBook Pro when I had Lightroom, Photoshop and Photoshop Beta all open at the same time with the huge files from the Fuji GFX 100S.

Thanks 32GB is fine for what I do - no Lightroom and no test software ;-) My main machine [Mac Pro from 2012] is still on Photoshop 2022 and my laptop still CS6 - I've found that I rarely have use for any PS functionality which has appeared in recent years. The only specific extra for this Mac was a 1TB internal disk It's also as much as we could afford, so no 30mm T/S for the time being [Fujifilm are loaning me one for testing]

@@KeithCooper yep, It's a business and you need to get the right tools, but at a cost that makes sense profit-wise. I hope your father does well and you're able to come back to KZbin with more insightful videos. I'm interested in seeing how the collar Fuji has added to the TS lens works as a nodal point. It will also be interesting to see if I still need to have an L bracket if instead I can just rotate the camera within the collar. I'll be interested in hearing what results you get for panoramas and switching between horizontal and vertical. I'll let you know what I find too.

Thanks for that. Yes - there are some interesting features of the upcoming tilt/shift - I'll be sure to give it a thorough testing!

@@jackzigon You will not need a L-bracket for the Fujifilm GF 30mm F5.6 T/S, the Lens can rotate and locks at -90, 0, and 90 degrees with a click every 30 degrees

Hello Keith, I like your video’s very much.Just wondering What thoughts you have in regard to AI,.. does it take away the precise photo editing one has had in the past years?.. keep up the good work!😊

Thanks! I've not tried to see how good it is at removing litter bins yet, so in that respect, it's a smarter brush... As to wider generated content, it will force changes in the business - I'm just not sure how rapidly this will occur and in what areas. I'd be a lot more concerned if I was a working photographer in my 30s/40s than one in my 60s

It's essentially the same FOV as a 24mm on 35mm. Makes it as useful as a 24 - depends entirely on what you're shooting and how big an 'indoors' you've got...

Best is a meaningless term for this, I'd suggest - it all depends what you want to photograph. Wide is wide... Tilt is rarely of use unless it's something specific like running the plane of focus along a wall/floor/ceiling or isolating a subject. The utility of tilt is widely misunderstood, and probably accounts for more tilt/shift lenses entering the used market than any other factor :-)

Good humor about lecturing Architecture vs. Photography Students. Too bad for the photo students, your techniques seem very precise.
