I watched this in 1981 and just now. What stands out for me is Potvin. He made alot of mistakes , poor penalties, caught up ice on a goal, caught flat-footed on another, fell at center ice for no reason. In 1976, he also took bad penalties and was caught out of position to many times. I had remembered him as more efficient than this.

And Canada thumped them 7-3 in the round robin. 1974 doesn’t count as it did not include NHL players. So enjoy this ... it did not happen often. Remember, the CCCP played together all year for years on end. Canada was thrown together only 2 weeks prior to each tournament. Huge disadvantage, yet we still won. Imagine if our team Canada’s has been allowed to play together all year? Look what happens to the Russian team after the break up in 1991. No National team playing together all year. 1976, seriously? In the USSR, this team was called "experimental", it did not have the two best attacking triplets. This is the only way to assert your own greatness.
@rondezeeuw25213 жыл бұрын
pegucka7 The reason the CCCP went with an experimental team is that they knew they could not beat a team Canada in 1976 with its best lineup. Remember, the 72 team was missing the best player in the world in Bobby Orr, not to mention Bobby Hull. Without our two best players we still won. So 1976 was a chance to save their pride and ice a team they could say was “experimental”. The CCCP has iced some very good teams, but those teams were great only because they played their best players together for years on end. It’s amazing that Canada could put together all those teams in short notice and still win - yet we do. Imagine Team Canada playing its best together all year? Good luck my friend. Cheers.

Watch this advertised Gretsky. He is an absolute flop in this decisive game.
