Look at Orr; he is playing in great pain.Always sad watching these 76 CC games. Having watched Bobby Orr’s career in Boston, he was a ghost of what he use to be (still good though!).What happens to him is the reason why the NHL cleaned up the modern game. Too many Teams in the nhl watered down. Lots of clutching and grabbing for players who really wouldnt have made it in a 6 or even 12 team format. Then in the 1970S and 80s selected allstars who were not a real team .Exception for the team Canada of 76 and at the end 72. The North American game is geared to hitting and tougher play and thats what most fans pay for. Ive seen two European teams play and yes nice passing etc. but like icecapades after a while on the big ice surface .

@@ronmailloux8655 Speaking as an Edmontonian, I gotta say the NHL got it right. If you played for the Oilers in 1978-79, then you couldn't have been an Oilers rookie in 1979-80. Remember, it was a merger between the two leagues, ostensibly as equals. That said, if that is the NHL's view, then I think WHA stats should count toward career totals. Same with the ABA and NBA.
@ronmailloux86555 ай бұрын
@@scrivener68 I think the NHL didnt want to acknowledge the WHA past present or future . The point you made about points in both leagues proves my point .
@thomasleary28142 ай бұрын
@ronmailloux8655 You make a good point , but the NHL wasn't about to acknowledge the WHA in any way shape or form. The 1970's bidding wars were still fresh and the NHL knew they had the 4 merger teams (Hartford, Edmonton, Quebec and Winnipeg) over a barrel. They really got shafted and were basically treated as expansion teams (only allowed to protect 4 players, placed at the bottom of the '79 entry draft, etc.) Harry Sinden of the Bruins only voted for the merger after the Whalers agreed to be known as a "Hartford" team rather than the "New England" Whalers.
