Hello. Idir is an Algerian singer of Kabyle origin. He died a few years ago. He is very well known worldwide, especially on this song, which dates back to 1974. It has been translated into several languages. It is a lullaby that speaks of a legend like small red capron. and thank you for having made this reaction peace to his soul

This is a masterpiece. You took me back to my younger days when Radio Monte Carlo and "Radio Medi 1" used to put this song very often on their turntable. The song is a lullaby composed by Idir and Ben Mohamed and was meant to be sung by Nouara, a singer on Radio Algiers. However when Nouara turned down the song, Idir decided to interpret the song himself accompanied with another singer called Mila. So what goes around, comes around. I am sure Nouara regretted her decision later on as the song became iconic, but at least we earned Idir's voice as teh definitive version for the song.

Besides being popular in the Arab World, the song became popular in France as part of what is called "world music". Idir has many other songs that have achieved fame including the amazing "Azwaw", "Ssendu" and "Zwit Rwit" . The latter became the basis of a very famous interpretation by Cheb Khaled called "El harbe wene".

Many other versions exist such as the 1999 version with Karen Matheson, [2] a singer with a great repertoire of Gaelic songs. That version appeared in Idir's album Identités. "A Vava Inouva" has also been translated into several languages including Arabic, Spanish, French, Greek and others. David Jisse and Dominique Marge released as a duo the French version "Ouvre-moi vite la porte". Yiannis Katevas released a Greek version as "An ginotane" (in Greek Αν γινότανε) featuring Efi Strati. Indeed what you said about the spoken Berber language in your introduction is correct, however, 80-90% of the populations of North Africa, from Libya, to the Canari Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, are genetically and ethnically Berbers, or Imazighen. A large part of the Arabic speaking Berbers falsely used to believe they were all ethnically Arabs, just because they are Muslims, and can speak Arabic, and as a Kurd you're the first one to know that being able to reading the Quran, and speaking Arabic does not make one an Arab. Even in Tunisia where the proportion of Berber speaking population is very small, people used to think, falsely that they were 90% Arabs, but this has changed since the studies of the world genome, they are more culturally Arabised, certainly, but not ethnically. Thanks for this video, and God bless.

@Nassim Alouache "This song is about an ancient Kabyle story. Vava Ynova (Father Ynova) was a notary in a village and a member of its council. Unfortunately he embezzled community money for his personal use. Because of this, he was banished from the village and left to live in the forest. In ancient times, in Berber mythology, it is said that the forest was inhabited by monsters who could take the form and voice of humans. Ynova now outside the village had a daughter who visited him bringing him food and necessities. When she visits him, at his door, he would ask her to ring her bracelets to make sure it was her and not the forest monster. In the song, the poete Idir contrasts between the life in the the community which guarantees food, security and the warmth of the family, and between the scary life outside the village for the ones who betrayed the confidence of the village dissipating its savings and exposing it to need and famine. This story and many others, were the means for parents and adults to transmit the values of solidarity and community life for young people, gathered around a fire during the long freezing winter nights of the mountains of the Kabylia region in North Africa."
