I am from west Sumatra. Kids actually still have to go school during Ramadhan. The school holidays is just three days at the beginning of ramadhan, then the kids will go to school like usual during Ramadhan, then it get holidays again a week before ied fitr. The school will begin again a week after ied fitr. It's applied on national scale (all provinces in indonesia) by ministry of education

Eid Mubarak. Hi Ijay, it's me again :) Padang people (people who originally are from West Sumatera) are one of the best practising Islam teachings in Indonesia. Besides their food also the best traditional food in Indonesia such as RENDANG if you know it and many other food that they produce. almost all Indonesian love their food, we call it MASAKAN PADANG means cooking from Padang people, super duper delicious, you will love them and ofcourse 100% HALAL because padang people is Muslim community. Btw I'm not from Padang so my testimony is pure and fair :) Selamat Hari Raya. Mudah-mudahan berkah :)

Grand mosque or Masjid Raya Sumatra Barat, also known as Masjid Mahligai Minang in Padang is one of the most beautiful and largest masjids ever built in Indonesia. It's located within a complex of 40,345 square meter, and has the capacity of around 20,000 jamaah (people). It was given award as one of seven best designed masjid on earth in 2021. I've visited the masjid myself during my field visit work, and it was HUGE indeed, and yet stunningly beautiful. The design is adapting West Sumatra pointy roof (vernacular houses) architecture. The shape of the roof also meant to symbolize the cloth that was held by its corners by the four clan leaders of the Quraysh tribe to lift the Black Stone to the current spot in Mecca. On every side of the roof carved with beautiful Asmaul Husna (Allah's name) calligraphy. The main building consists of three floors. The main prayer hall is located on the second floor. If you come to Indonesia, feel free to visit the masjid. It looks more beautiful up-close.
