European astronauts have to learn german because they are trained in Germany, english because the ISS Mission control ... is in english and russian because of the soyuz.

from the looks of it, Russia is kicking butt when it comes to space, I think united states use to be more advanced in space, but now with space shuttle being out dated, the Russians are in the lead, way in the lead, I think Russia is one of few country's in the world now who can still put a man in space.

hello world They also have to communicate with the ground in russian. Even parts of the ISS are russian. So it's a lot easier for the austronauts to learn it. All astronauts have to speak at least a little russian and english.
