Gotta love the older Canadian Brass stuff. Love the end of the piece...so majestic!!

It sounds way better than the new stuff in my opinion.

I love the fact that all of the members are different, except for the tuba player (his name eludes me at the moment).

The final chord! Amazing! Especially the extra little low tuba tone at the very end.

this sounds more appealing to my ears than the German Brass version... maybe because of the simpler arrangement! Fantastic professionalism by these men!

Brilliant and taken to an even higher level by the fact that none of the quintet had sheet music in front of them! Virtuoso performance really by one of the world's greatest brass groups over the last several decades!

Have just listened to version from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Brass Quintet, which is really well controlled and brilliant. This version surpasses that one in my opinion.

guitarboy1231000 J.S.Bach's , the ' tierce de Picardie' * - The change from minor 3rd ( F natural) to major ,F# on the last * Chord.This was typical, to indicate a more consonant & fullfilling happy end,( but not all experts are agreed on this point ) - It can & did occur in many works- also within a piece, as a device to not only change direction, but the mood & mode , reversing ,...that is going from Major to Minor,..& with other variations.. such as the same idea on any degree of the Key scale.

It's wonderful the goodies you find when you're following various links. I've been a brass player for 43 years and I can honestly say that I haven't heard anything quite like this before. This was breathtakingly good. What a fantastic balance from such a small ensemble. I absolutely loved it, although like others, I do question the major to close. Nontheless a stunning performance.

It's a euphonium, it's the Yamaha YEP-201. Source: Canadian Brass website
@biggallcaps7 жыл бұрын
Ruige Verfaillie The main difference is the bore size. The euphonium is conical (the tubing gradually gets bigger from the mouthpiece to the bell) and the baritone is cylindrical (it maintains a consistent bore size throughout the major portion of the instrument which means it has a brighter sound). -Google the literal first result So it's a Baritone. The British classification says the Euphonium is in the Tuba family and that the Baritone is in the Saxhorn family. So since the Canadian Brass has Canada it's name and Canada was a British province, maybe they use that classification too; however it is not recognized that way uniformly around the world. Therefore, even if they say it's a Euphonium, it technically can be seen as both depending on your classification and source.
@Ruigekerel7 жыл бұрын
So you obviously know the difference between a euphonium and a baritone. Good. I do not know why you had to post the theoretics about that, as this is not the discussion about what is what. That does not change the fact that this is the Yamaha YEP-201, and that is a euphonium. In Canada, in the UK, in Europe, and dare I say, even in America. No country in the world will discuss the fact that the YEP-201 is a euphonium. You know, with your definition ' The euphonium is conical (the tubing gradually gets bigger from the mouthpiece to the bell)', it even fits that...
@biggallcaps7 жыл бұрын
Ruige Verfaillie Not if you look at it. It's cylindrical all the way up to the bell 7:17
