Thanks for watching, 3 trips a day with warm water in the winter, I have considered other heating solutions but honestly - bringing fresh warm water is the easiest.

So I know that this video was made a long time ago BUT I cannot thank you enough!!! I have been trying to find a good hutch but all of the ones online are far too small. This one is perfect!! I’m thinking about making this except I might take out the divider on both levels. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Hello, thanks for watching, Unfortunately I don't have any plans - Its was a build as I go kinda build - Please Pause the video as needed to determine build - Yes, all built with 2x4 construction- can use 4x4 for the outside posts - Demensions are 5 feet wide x 8 feet long and each level is 2.5 feet tall - also if you watch all the builds your will get a better idea of sizes - they are all built off the same platform. -- Good Luck !!

I will agree to disagree on this subject, I will admit that because money is the ultimate goal that animal welfare is usualy considered neglectable, but while a normal commercial operation might fit 20 bunnies in the hutch in this video, i was considering 4-5 which i still think is tons of room for that many rabbits, As for biological meat rabbits, never really heard of it, we have organic here, which is simple the feed you give it which could be done with little or alot of space.
@Arahantzz
@Arahantzz 11 жыл бұрын
In their cage design, under cages meant for does and fryers it states "Space saving decks can accommodate up to 90 fryers or 30 does in a space 80" long by 6" wide." Which is tremendously more then I have suggested with my 4-5 rabbits in the hutch in this video. This is the way its done EVERYWHERE when it comes to commercial meat production. I understand people with pets are going to give them lots of room and good food, but you can't do that and be productive with meat rabbits.
@Arahantzz

I direct you to the site of "rabbitsplus(dot)org" which claims to be the largest supplier of meat rabbits in canada. "The materials and methods we use in our rabbitries and PROMOTE are those used by thousands of breeders with over 10 million producing does on the European continent. They are the most advances, successful rabbitries in the WORLD." "These are NOT ideas from one individual, self-taught rabbit producer who does not have a THOROUGH understanding of advanced meat rabbit prd"

Everyone seems to have a different opinion on this, people i bought my rabbits from said rabbits do not get along together, same as person who made this video. However i'v seen tons of rabbits together either as a pair or even in large colonies. I'm not sure i agree that they should be in bonded pairs only but i don't know enough to say your wrong, i agree they are social animals and should be kept together, but people's opinions seem to be pretty divided on this. Anyways, nice looking rabbits.
@Arahantzz
@Arahantzz 11 жыл бұрын
Well considering that nothing in the title or description mentions a home for show/pet rabbits, and it wasnt mentioned even ONCE in the videos, your 100% wrong. This video is about a "Canadian Rabbit Hutch" and thats it. And the fact that other people do something is a tremendous reason for doing it the same way, everything we know and learn is based on what other people have done and learned from other people themselves. You tell me to research and then say doing the same as others is wrong?!
@Arahantzz
@Arahantzz 11 жыл бұрын
Good to know however i never said anything to the contrary, i said that that much space might be better suited to 4-5 rabbits, you could let your single rabbit live in your entire house and im sure it wouldnt hurt it, but does it need that much space?And my comments certainly weren't condemning him for only having one rabbit, to each their own was pretty much my sentiment. Next time try not to have such a knee-jerk reaction to a statement you clearly can't wrap your head around.
@Arahantzz
@Arahantzz 11 жыл бұрын
Your comment indicates that you didnt actualy read my whole comment before forming an opinion, you said the needs of pet rabbits but i clearly said that i was thinking of doing it commercialy which is different and most commercial rabbitries(who breed for meat and not for breeding stock) would probably put like 10 in that cage, so i think 4-5 with some being juveniles would be plenty of space. If YOU do some research you'll relise this is the norm not the exception, wether you agree with it or n

These are not wild rabbits, these are domesticated rabbits, people always make this mistake. They are not the same thing. They have been domesticated since the middle ages, do to their relatively short life spans and quick reproduction that is ALOT of generations of rabbits living in relatively confined spaces. Also in the wild food is sparse and predators plenty, a rabbit travels alot to get food and avoid predators. It doesn't have to in a cage. They are happy to just lie around and eat/sleep

How many rabbits do you have in each seperate area. Seems like alot of space for just one rabbit, I'm new to this but i would put like 4-5 rabbits in each hole or more. Nice hutches though, they are really nice. I'm from canada aswell and im thinking of building some hutches, im thinking of doing it commercialy though so not sure i would make them so big :)

It's stoutly built but wire floors? This is SO wrong. Your rabbits are likely to get sore hocks from this. They should be on a solid floor. Yes, you will have to clean it, but that is part of good rabbit care. Where are your four exercise runs and how do they get to them? In the wild rabbits would cover half an acre every day...they need exercise space.

hey shut up. rabbits dont need to be with others they do just fine by there selves. my two rabbits always fight and there is a huge three story hutch inside. why dont you mind your own business. if you dont like his idea than why did you comment or even watch the video.

My rabbits dump food bowls. So I use feeders that load from the outside and gravity brings feed to the tray inside. I like water bottles that are big and kept outside with just the tube inside lets you refill daily and monitor consumption.

This is not a commercial opperation. These are for show quality pet rabbits. One per cage as rabbits generally don't work well together in a cage.

I like your ideas but putting two rabbits together can be trouble especially if they aren't litter mates. They can fight and pull out each others fur. Pet rabbits tend to do better as solitary pets.

Your endeavor might actually be more successful if you took a more natural approach. Biological meat rabbits. I don't know where you live, but here it is all the rage, concerning any livestock. You could run a local business that sells the meat of animals who have been treated well. Especially high end restaurants here boast a biological approach, biological meat actually tastes better, because the animals got exercise. You wouldn't have to compete with large, established commercial rabbitries.
@271207
@271207 11 жыл бұрын
The site you referred me to is perhaps the most laughably unprofessional looking site I have seen and even includes spelling errors in the few lines I have read. Holding rabbits in close quarters like that is wrong. It is bad for the animal. Please do not try to justify yourself by pretending otherwise. If you insist on inappropriate housing like promoted on this site, at least admit that because the ultimate goal is money, animal wellfare is considered neglectable.
@271207
@271207 11 жыл бұрын
From the video it is clear the rabbits are considered pets, but fine, if you insist on being literal or are too dense to notice he isn't just reffering to commercial meat rabbits, it is just a video about a hutch. Doesn't change the fact that the way you intend to keep rabbits is wrong. To do research means to find the correct way of doing something, not the popular way of doing something. Listen to the advice of experts, not what a handful of misinformed people have told you.
@271207
@271207 11 жыл бұрын
Excuse me for assuming that with "commercially" you meant raising rabbits as pets for sale. That is the more appropriate association considering the video , since this video is about a home for show/pet rabbits. Also, just because "everyone else does it, or even worse" doesn't make it right. It just means a lot of people do it wrong either purposefully or due to misinformation. To say it is right to do something because others are doing it is the most unintelligent argument one could make.
@271207
@271207 11 жыл бұрын
That is the opposite of the consensus here. Where I live you are supposed to get rabbits in pairs. Pet stores do sell individual rabbits, but proper breeders and shelters will only sell/give you a bonded pair of rabbits, or one rabbit under the condition that you already have one and will keep them together. It is true that this can cause conflict if you don't introduce them properly to one another (bonding), but once they are acquainted they will be much happier together.
@271207
@271207 11 жыл бұрын
You asked for ideas at the end of the video, so here you have three: 1) No mesh flooring. It might be more trouble and time-consuming for you to clean up, but I think that if you find it too much trouble and too time-consuming, you shouldn't keep rabbits. 2) Put two rabbits on each floor as planned, but leave the latch up so they have a mate. 3) This is fine as a hutch, but give them access to a more open space as well.
@271207
@271207 11 жыл бұрын
Do some proper research on keeping rabbits before you pursue your plan. Your comment indicates that you know very little of the needs of pet rabbits. 4 or 5 rabbits in those cages is extremely crowded, the space is more suitable for an individual, or a pair, but even then they need a run as well. Rabbits are a much bigger commitment and responsibility than most people realize.

I am about a quarter way through building one of these trying to recreate your work and a friend brought up a good point... Whats stopping the rabbits from just chewing through the wood?
@ferreriinfo1111
@ferreriinfo1111 9 жыл бұрын
Well, that is a good point which i did consider, but the other option is metal which is too expensive and a lot of different kind of work and likely to rust in time. After a few years I have not had any problems, In one instance I did replace one piece of wood, but nothing to worry about. I do provide wood/ branch's for them to chew on as it keeps them busy and good for their teeth. So my advice is carry on man, it's all good.

Well guys this is quite the dicussion/debate. These cages were designed for our Pet/Show rabbits. I am in no way suggesting that my way is the only or best way to do things - its just what I like and prefer.We have had success doing it our way- again just my opion. I will do meat rabbits some day but will likely use smaller cages and larger cages used for grow out pens. Thanks for watching my video's - I have really enjoyed sharing my idea's - please take from it what ever you like.

I absolutely love this! Wire bottoms are a massive taboo in the UK, but they really do look more practical for both owner and rabbit. Especially in hotter weather since they can get a breeze from the floor as well. I have to ask, how wildlife proof are these? In my area we have an abundance of foxes, badgers and red kites but I would really like to have a go at building these without the fear of them being broken into by wildlife.

Actually, the combination floor is whats really best for the rabbits. I think that a 24x24 all wire cage is not in the rabbits best interest. My design makes for easy clean up for me and the rabbit has the choice to spend time where it wants. For example in the summer they love to stretch out on the wire mesh as it provides air flow. In the winter they spend more time on the wood.Also I've added a elevated wood play structure in the middle of the cage and they spend tons of time on it as well.

I disagree there are a lot of bad things that can be on my lawn for one. I do have my bunny in a cage. You know what can damage my bunny more? If he eats that grass that my dad puts pesticides on. A human home is a cage. There are doors to lock yourself in. My bunny's home is a cage too and with the pesticide free grass I grew he is let out on there. My street is filled with dogs. If I cannot put my bunny in the cage then I have to let him out of it without any protection against the elements or dogs that will (and have I lost one bunny) rip him apart. He is not allowed inside either. My bunny is happy. He loves being secure and dry especially when it rains. He is fine and cages are a lot more sanitary.

Yes you can, because he is using it! Mesh is proven to be gentler on a rabbits feel longer than a solid bottom. And he is responsible so he wont let his rabbits get hurt with it.

What size wire do you use? I have New Zealands and have problem with bunny balls going through on my large does cage. I live in cold climate and like your design, doing you ever have problems getting ahold of your rabbit, some times they go to a place where you can't reach them? BJ

Amazing hutch! I wish I had the skills to do that! Also, do you have any tips for litter training? we've been trying to train our bunny for about 6 months, he's even neutered and he's still being really stubborn about it. We've even tried moving his litter box but he likes to go in the middle of his cage and not just a corner.

How much damage have they done to all that exposed wood. Seems like it'd need to be covered with wire mesh to prevent the rabbits from destroying it. Other than that I really love your cage design

dude, rabbits don't like to be in a cage and specially on those wires. It damage their paws. pls..... let them free in your garden. let them to dig a hole and be there and just give them food. I have 5 rabbits for 6 years. they are pretty happy that way. I can't believe people post those kind of animal suffocating shit online and expect other to hit like button. we are human we have brains bigger than animals. Do you even have one mate? Do not play stupid.....think. You know nobody like to trap in a cage. daaaaam stupid people......hope karma will come back to you!
