hey volunteer firefighter here, my fire department is 5km next to the first fire department being shown (Ingolstadt), the 1st, 3rd and 4th cars have been replaced or turned into reserve vehicles. The first car from the left is a command vehicle, there the "zugführer" is being driven to the emergency, zugführer directly translated means "train leader" in germany a "löschzug" = "fire train" is the basic respond order for basically everything in conections with fire. The 3rd truck is called "Drehleiter" which translates to "turning ladder" it is used just like the american/canadian ladder truck, so in case there is a fire one can spray water from above (but the vehicle all on itself doesnt have water on board) or just saving people from higher elevations or lower depressions. And the 4th vehicle is a regular ambulance.

Germany has two emergency numbers, first 110 for the police and 112 for fire departments or medical emergencies. Since the European Commission could not agree on a general emergency number in the EU at the time, 110 and 112 also work in all other EU countries and the emergency numbers from all EU countries also work in Germany.

Back in the times when telephones had dials, the 1 was the quickest digit to dial, and dial locks were put into the 3, so that dialling 112 was still possible. So, there is actually a practical reason the emergency call is 112.

no, it's not because they couldn't agree, it's by design 112 is for emergencies, 110 is the specific emergency number for the police,.... police and rescue services are strictly seperated in germany, so that even persons that are in legal trouble will seek aid 112 is unarmed and will only help you, 911 transfers to 112 in germany btw

Maybe you noticed, Germany Fire Trucks, Ambulance and Police (or just every emergency related vehicle) does have 2 horns, the louder one, is by Air Pressure, the quieter one is electric, the quieter one is mainly used in the Night and in Citys, to not disturb citizens. Germany have 3 types of Firefighters, The Main Firefighters, who work actually for the Fire Departement (Full time), and you have the ones for the Industry complexes (they are for one company only, as an example BMW, or Audi), and then you have the "volunteer" Firefighters, who work regular Jobs but have a pager when a fire alarm goes off to rush to the Fire Department and do their Fire Fighting job at 8:40 you see the little van, thats the fire chef who leads the firefighting at the fire place

actually not every emergency vehicle has both types of sirens; First and foremost: there are three types of sirens, with a total of 5 siren modes in Germany. Most police cars only have electric sirens. Germany also has more types of fire departments, not just 3 different ones
@RustyDust101
@RustyDust101 18 күн бұрын
The Metz one on the left at 1:33 is just the ladder assembly on top. They are a company that specializes in vehicle attachments and functionality upgrades. The base vehicle is still a Mercedes utility vehicle. The central one is the hose carrier and pumping vehicle. Sirens are only turned on if approaching an intersection with them not having green. However if they are on their way to an emergency the flashing blue lights (only blue lights) will always be turned on. Like in several other videos, any time you hear a siren you as a driver have to corroborate the direction they are coming from, and IMMEDIATELY check if you have to move out of the way. If you can determine they are coming from behind, on a narrow street, move as far to the right as possible, even going CAREFULLY on the sidewalk if necessary, or even CAREFULLY crossing a red light if you are right at the front of the line. Just move out of the way. Even if your picture is taken by automatic traffic light flashers you can get free of that ticket if you call in to the vehicular office and describe the situation. They can check back with the fire departments or emergency services. Any fine or punishment is waved in that case. Any emergency vehicles with sirens and flashing lights active have pretty much the absolute right of way, even if they are heading into oncoming traffic. EVERYBODY has to do their utmost to not hinder them and get out of the way. Like you might have seen at the 6:35 mark. The firetruck went onto the left lane for the oncoming traffic to pass the right lane as it was too narrow for it pass there even if the cars moved to the right. Basically the driver of the emergency vehicle has to decide on the fly what is the best approach, and they have the right to make virtually any choice if it means getting to their destination faster without endangering others. Mind you, they are allowed to damage vehicles for example in a single lane one-way street if they are parked too close for the truck to pass. This exact thing happened in Wiesbaden once when there was a fire in the middle of a long, narrow one way street. The truck driver assumed from the map that his truck would fit. Well, it didn't. In this street, curb parking was legal on one side, but not on the other. But as it was a compact residential area many people parked their cars on the wrong side of the street, narrowing it down so far that the truck couldn't pass undamaged. So they used the power of the truck to scrape past all illegally parked cars, leaving several vehicles seriously damaged, as well as the fire truck itsself with nice scrape marks down the side. The fire department called in the cops to deliver a truck load of fines, as well a split cost for the repairs to emergency vehicle to all vehicle owners illegally parked and damaged. The owners of those vehicles also did NOT receive insurance coverage as they were in clear violation of the law.

1:32 the Sprinter on the left is actually the command unit. The standard fire platoon in Germany consists of a command unit (usually a MB Sprinter, MB Vito or VW Transporter), fire engine, ladder truck and an additional fire engine or tender truck, and it's usually accompanied an ambulance. There is also a short platoon without the secondary engine. And kinda ironic that they chose the ancient LHF 16/12 of the voluntary fire brigade for Berlin, considering Berlins professional fire brigade has some of the most modern vehicles.

So in Germany the general emergency number is 112 for the fire brigade and rescue service and 110 for the police. There are more volunteer fire brigades in Germany; they are in smaller villages and cost nothing or a few euros, which is why there are also volunteer fire brigades; the professional fire brigade costs money, but not an excessive amount; and then there is the company fire brigade, but this is only responsible for one company!

06:05 These are command vehicles. They drive ahead and usually get there quicker. They are there to assess the operational situation in order to be able to request forces more quickly if necessary. If you are interested in a fire department operation, I recommend videos from the "Feuer & Flamme | Staffel 7 | WDR" series on youtube , where you can see operations from the moment you call.
@Syndur
@Syndur 17 күн бұрын
On a large deployment, the "lead vehicle" isn't a "navigator" -- every vehicle can find the way, no problem. It's usually the commander, and they might even rush ahead to scout the situation so they can assign positions and tasks to the bigger vehicles when they arrive. Along the same lines, unless they are given instructions saying otherwise, the rescue vehicle goes last. On smaller deployments, they might not send an extra command car. As for emergency numbers, you absolutely need to know "112" -- it will work throughout Europe. In Germany, police has "110" -- but if you call 112 and the dispatcher thinks that you should be talking to the police, they will just forward you. So, you can call 110 in Germany for the police, but if you only remember "112" for Europe it's fine too.

@@markus1351 It depends on how the local fire department is structured. I also know that two people in the lead vehicle drive in front - the fire engine follows. The leader vehicle, open the key safe if necessary, go to the fire alarm center, use tablets to explore the situation (running maps). While the fire engine with driver and staff waits for instructions. Even in the event of a false alarm or a reset of the alarm, the lead vehicle remains on site while the fire brigade moves away again.

A little hint for you: the license plates show whether a vehicle is "new or old" and whether it has been purchased or leased and of course the color....! The vehicle @ 10:51 in your video STILL HAS AN OLD REGISTRATION PLATE, when the vehicles were still purchased and were equipped with an "official license plate" by the city or municipality, which only contains the letter abbreviation for the city and a 4 - 5 digit number. and immediately afterwards a new one, the newer vehicles up to the point in the video are all leasing vehicles with "desired" license plates (with selected letter combinations e.g. FW for fire department) In my hometown, the fire brigade's vehicles "funnily enough" have the international designation for the airport on their license plates (DUS). In 2015 the color was changed, the old one is called (RAL 3000 fire red). ps. And yes, there are also insurance and legal reasons for the new “civil license plates”. before another nitpicker complains about!

In most cases in this video the first vehicle is the operations management (Einsatzleitung), then a crew and equipment carrier (Mannschaftswagen), then the one with the ladder is called Leiterwagen, then sometimes additional crew and equipment units and the last one as you already said is an ambulance type unit. But thats only the case in big cities with 24/7 fire stations. Many fire fighters in Germany are volunteers who only come to the station when there is an alarm, mostly in rural areas. Those only have 1-3 vehicles in total. In Germany (and I think EU-wide) emergency number is 110 for police and 112 for ambulance/fire department. But there are also some additional nationwide numbers
