I made my german driving license 25 years ago and in this time I was only pulled over once by the police. It was around 3 o'clock in the morning, in a foreign city - so with a foreign city license plate - and I got lost. So I drove around slowly on an empty street in an industrial area, where usually no cars drive in the middle of the night. So the police pulled me over and ask me what I was doing in this area. After a short conversation I followed the police car which guided me to the next Autobahn section ... that's it! My whole german police story! :)

I actually dislike German police. They often misbehave or even commit criminal offenses like illegal arrests in duty. however i didn’t want to trade them in for American cops 😵💫
@BlackRain27032 сағат бұрын
OH lord have mercy... first of all, no they´re not quite that nice but I will tell you this. Yes you got good and friendly ones but just as many are little "I´ve got the power" types..... the License plate, when expired, yes they´ll tell you, but with just one day over they won´t fine. You got like 2 months and the fine is only like 15 Euro for those 2 months. ... they´ll just tell you to go take care of it ASAP like that guy. Us germans take our TÜV very seriously. 😅 OK, yes... it takes alot before you see a german police officer draw his weapon, although they were more cautious on the Autobahn for a while, not sure if they still are. It was like that for a bit because a german cop got shot by some guy, don´t remember the whole story anymore 🤔🤷♀

Absolutely, here it's absolutely unthinkable that a German police officer acts like an American. So different the rules and the culture. And when you think that in the UK they don't even carry guns it's possible to see that other systems work without the rage and violence

as a german i would say even the friendly encounter that was depicted seemd strangely tense to me, i was never in a car while it was pulled over (exept at border checkpoints to austria or swizerland (but normaly you don't get stopped while crossing those borders)) but i was pulled over on my bike multiple times before, it was always a pleasant greeting, followed by the question if i drank alcohol. (in germany near carneval, big public partys or comparible events it is common to get stopped and asked that, even on bike) so I normally answered Yes, as it is no problem unless you are propperly intoxicated. sometimes this is followed up by them asking for ID, nowerdays they often do not ask anymore, i guess th idear behind that IDing is that they want to know if i would be under 16 (because if I'm not i have no buissnes drinking (Yes in germany you can get completely pissed with beer at the age of 16) or if i would be under 18 after midnight. If the later would be a problem depending on the time, distance and the direction you were heading the result can be anything between, "youre a bit late, go home, earlyer next time", "ah mate, make shure you are home quick", or in extreme cases, they could even bring you home, but i only ever heared about that from a friend of a friends friend. In many cases after those questions you are free to go, but if they get the feeling you are more than a bit drunk (they often ask how much you drunk anyways) they can ask you to do a brethalizer test. this may seem inconvinient to americans, but in germany they have handheld brethalizers. You blow into it it beeps, the police guy looks on the device maybe lectures you on it is unhealthy to drink much (at young age) (sometimes with sarcastic tone) and wishes you a good night. limits for drinking in germany (roughtly to my knowlage): 0.0‰ if you are driving a car and your license is new (2 years old) 0.2‰ if you are driving 0.4‰ if you are biking and cause a accident or endanger trafic 1.6‰ if you are biking Be aware ‰ (promille) and BAC are not the same if you are over tose limits police can get verry strict. however, I before was unable to produce an ID when asked, got lectured about this beeing unlawfull and got to go, was many times biking drunk under 1.6‰ and once before OVER 1.6‰ ( i tink it was arround 2.1‰ wich is absurdly high) but according to the police man I behaved so well, and he said i can just go, just be carefull and slow on my bike. (I think i freshly turned 18 a month ago back then)

Once the George Floyd news came out i compared the stats between the US police and the German police. And the numbers i found there on the server of the german interior ministry it suggests that the us police kill more people in about 16 months than the German police did since the recording began in 1850.

there are also in Germany aggressive, corrupt or many racist police officers. Also good ones, for sure. But also in the US there are very smart and friendly police officers. I have seen a lot of videos with good US officers.

He wioll have ago when Porsche brings a new modell. And he will drive with car journalists. He will certainly have not a 40h work week anymore but he is not in retirement.

Well... I was once driving by and witnessed a police officer in plain clothes holding a guy lying on the ground at close range with a machine gun. He and another guy had robbed a small store. And because someone noticed and called the police unnoticed, they were able to arrest the guys as they left the store. And I was just driving by. You're used to seeing police officers patrolling at the airport with machine guns slung over their shoulders, for example, but I'd never seen a police officer point such a weapon at someone before...

I've definitely encountered my share of unfriendly police. The way I look, I got "random" checks for drugs aplenty (good thing weed is legal now, so maybe that's over). They're usually not very friendly about it. But except illegal profiling and a rude demeanour, there isn't much they can do. Gotta mention though, that was obviously exclusively the Drogendezernat (would be sth like drug department in English, I guess?). And it's always been federal (national) police (around train stations and on trains), never state police.

5:50 No, there are no bad police officers in Germany, only nice ones and not so nice ones. They are well trained and know exactly what they can and cannot do. And if a citizen complains, there's an investigation by the police inspectorate. And every(!) single use of firearms by a police officer automatically triggers an investigation by the public prosecutor's office, regardless whether anyone was hurt or not.

Couple of years ago, in the aftermath of the infamous, lethal terror attack on a Berlin Chrismas market, armed police guarded other Chrismas markets throughout the nation to provide the illusion of safety to the citizens. At the Chrismas market of Neumünster/Schleswig-Holstein there was a picture taken back in the day showing a female police officer carrying her submachinegun in front of her chest, but that gun did not have a magazine inserted.🤣🤣🤣

They are all very friendly - until you say sentences such as (friendly, without aggression and with your utmost respect): - No, I won't do that - I'm not obliged to do that - I won't say anything about that They really don't like it when you're "difficult" and they loose their powerplay. Warning: You absolutely HAVE to give them your name, date of birth, address, and profession. But nothing more and you should keep it at that.

Pros? Tell them to the parents from Stephan Neisius, or take a look at the drug scandal in munich, or say this to the organized nazi group in the frankfurt police. Do you actually know that there is no independent reporting office for police misconduct in Germany? Or did you know that the police investigate their own misconduct? The German police are much better trained than the American police, but they are not heroes and certainly not something you should love in Germany. Not under the circumstances that prevail in Germany with regard to dealing with the police. I dont hate the police, but i hate ppl wearing a badge and a gun and treat citizens like crap bc they have some kind of power.
