This is one of my favorite Persian songs!!!! It's stood the test of time. First heard in 1973. Learned to play it on the piano and one night I played it my my Iranian friends dinner party. I was told that one guy had tears in his eyes. Just heard a modern remake & It's very different but you just can't mess this song up.

I can see that nobody has mentioned in the comments that this song was the first song Kourosh composed using the the guitar he had just learned at the time for just a few days. There is a really good documentary on the Persian music history done by ManotoTV which highlights the top greatest 100 Persian songs ever that features this song.

Gole yakh: ice plant or wintersweet, which is an eastern plant growing in the elevated icy mountains. It's a metaphor for sorrow and melancholy.

Goleh Yakh is a common plant in Iran that blossom in the coldest night of the winter. It also has an amazing aroma and smells wonderful. It represents the hope that in the darkest and coldest night of winder, a flower can bloom. Just like our desire to be free in Iran.

" Sorrow, within your lovely eyes, has nested The night has made its home in your black hair Those dark eyes of yours are just like my nights, The depth of your eyes is just like my sorrow... Spring fluttered out of my hands and left Ice flower has sprouted in my heart..." Yesterday when I heard Kianush Sanjari, killed himself because of Iranian regime's inhumane oppression against young people and women in Iran, I just went numb! I saw his pictures, looked into his beautiful black eyes and it remind me this beautiful song, I just could listen to this song and cry my eyes out 😔

In your beautiful eyes it has made a nest. Night, in your black hair, Has found a home. Your two dark black eyes, Look like my nights. The black of your two eyes, Look like my sorrows. When the sadness in my throat runs off my eyelids it rains. The flood of my sadness Ruined all my village. When you stay with me My oneliness is gone by the wind. [But now...] My two eyes feel like raining at the night. The spring has flown away off my hands [like a bird] A flower made of ice blossomed in my heart In my corner, I am burning of the fire of my loneliness It is blossomed in this [burning] times. What can I even sing? My youth ... and my voice are already gone. A flower made of ice blossomed in my heart What can I even sing? My youth ... and my voice are already gone. A flower made of ice blossomed in my heart ...

Persian is a beautiful language because of the articulation of sounds Mace. a vowel comes after a consonants in most of the words.consonant- vowel- consonant-vowel.in English there are words with 3 consonant that comes after each other without any vowel between them : words like "spray "and "street" but in Persian there are no words with 3 consonants .if a Persian guy wants to pronounce these words he uses a vowel after each consonant: "es pe rey" , for instance, for the word "spray".maybe that makes Persian language more beautiful than other languages

You acted like you enjoyed this song as much as I did! I guess music is a true international language. This vocalist happened to live on the same street only ten houses from mine. He always paled his acoustic guitar in front of us but you could hear his electric guitar when passing by his house. Last time I saw him I was 13 and he must’ve been 25 when he had his hit song Gole Yakh (ice flower in Persian) and shortly after he bought his brand new red 1973 Camaro and moved to an expensive neighborhood in Tehran. I moved to the US a year later and haven’t gone back yet, waiting for a regime change if it ever happens in my lifetime. Thanks for the post.

Hey dude. Gol-e yax literally means Chimonanthus in persian but here its a metaphor of sorrow & hopelessness for his love. Cuz yax (ice) is the symbol of sorrow. It says like the flowers that facing the end in frosting season, the flower of our love is facing its end and its replaced by a gol e yax.

Literal translation: Sorrow has built a nest among those two beautiful (dark) eyes of yours (it's constantly there). The night dwells in your black hair. Your pair of black (dark) eyes, is like my nights. The blackness (darkness) of your pair of eyes, is like my sorrows. When the lump (in my throat) falls down my eyelashes, it turns into the rain (pours like rain). The flood of sorrow has turned my village into ruins (play on words, village or Abaadi in Persian literally means flourishing or a flourishing place and it's used in contrast with ruins which literally means a destroyed place). When you stay with me, the wind takes away my loneliness. My two eyes are raining at nighttime. The spring, flapping its wings, flew away out of my hands. (An) ice flower has sprouted in my heart. In my room, I'm bursting into flames from loneliness, O' the one who has blossomed in these times. How can I sing? My youth's gone and my voice is gone now. (An) ice flower has sprouted in my heart.

There is a concept in Iranian poetry which can be translated to "duality in meaning". Simply, a verse can have dual meaning, adding to the beauty of the poem. For instance when he says "Spring now has left my hands", he can also mean "Bahar" (his lover whose name is "Bahar" or "Spring") has left my arms.

2:12 Since 1979, everything makes sense is banned. All of the singer, except Homayoun Shajarian, that you have reacted to their songs are banned to work in Iran. Even Mohammad Reza Shajarian! Farhad had a chance to have a concert, but the with one condition, "no recording". Even medias are not allowed to mention some of artist name... There are some sanctions from US and many sanctions from our governments. :(
@lensman57624 жыл бұрын
Its just not the US and Iranian sanctions. Persian singers are not allowed to refer to anything Persian in concerts in the Arab countries. It is as if the whole world , for some reason has lined up to get rid of anything Persian. What have we done to deserve this?
