The ceiling at Warwick Castle was not destroyed by ISIS. The temple on which it was based, in Palmyra, was destroyed. ISIS doesn't attack English castles.

My younger brother lives in warwick very close to the castle . I often visit the castle grounds. I live in Tamworth, the ancient capital of Mercia which also has a castle. Our castle is rather small compared to Warwick but we love it. The two castles are linked by a famous woman. Her name is Ethelfleda, she was the daughter of King Alfred the Great.

Warwick is a fabulous castle and not far from where I live but there are hundreds of castles in the UK some not so grand but many that are just as amazing.😊

As a Canadian this is already known to you. An oubliette (from French oublier meaning to forget) or bottle dungeon is a basement room which is accessible only from a hatch or hole (an angstloch) in a high ceiling.

Warwick Castle was used for various scenes in the film starring Kevin Costner "Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves".

Warwick sounds like Warrick the w is silent in most names ending in wick (not all wicks, some are sounded, but many are not) in the UK.

I've not managed to go round Warwick Castle, but I have visited the beautiful and ancient church of St Mary's, Warwick. It is where many of the Earls of Warwick are buried. There are the tombs of at least two of the Beauchamp (pronounced beecham) Earls of Warwick: Thomas and his wife have a beautiful alabaster tomb, but the tomb of Richard is huge, with a huge, beautiful, effigy. Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick was important enough to be made Guardian of the boy King Henry VI. I think he died about the 1440s. There are carvings of his relatives on the tomb, and the carving of his son-in-law Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, is believed to be deliberately unflattering. Richard Neville helped King Edward IV depose Henry VI in 1461, but he fell out with Edward IV and finally deposed him in 1470, putting Henry VI back on the throne! But Edward IV attacked back and defeated and killed Warwick at the Battle of Barnet, which was I think February 1471. Richard II (not the more famous III) was a nasty little psychopath, reigning from 1377-1399. But the nobles who opposed him, including an Earl of Warwick - I think Thomas - were little better. Richard II promoted a Beauchamp cousin; but Thomas resented this. He was the head of the family! So after defeating the King, the Merciless Parliament got the Beauchamp cousin executed in 1388.

One thing I'd like to point out before I finishing watching, in the days when castles were working buildings, no tree's would have been allowed to grow in the vicinity, these days though they are allowed to do so and do obstruct the the real size sometimes.

The Cedar Drawing Room, named for the cedar panels on the walls, is the largest of the drawing rooms at Warwick Castle. It served as the ballroom after it was finished in 1670. Holding the distinction of being the only remaining version of such a unique and opulent ceiling, the Green Drawing Room was created in 1750. It replicates a Roman temple in Palmyra, Syria that sadly fell during a conflict in 2015. all i can find out it was not green drawing room but in Syria the only terror related story was in 2017 ARMED police became an unexpected attraction in their own right at Warwick Castle today and that was after an attack in Manchester so what i can gather room still how it is as no news reports regarding it and if it happens im sure i seen it local news but first time hearing about it so as It replicates a Roman temple in Palmyra, Syria that what prob destroyed

Just to let you know.. '_Warwick_' Castle ( _and_ Warwick, the actor) are pronounced 'Warrick' ... The second 'w' is _silent_ - as, indeed are others like the 'wich' of '_Greenwich_' (just south of London's River Thames* - pronounced 'Temz' - in South London), and the 'wich' of '_Norwich_' (in the East Anglian county of Norfolk), and also, '_Dulwich_ (in S.E.London), and again, another silent 'w' in the London borough of '_Southwark_' (pronounced '_Suthark_') amongst others... 😏🏴❤️🇬🇧🙂🖖

When polls have been held, Warwick Castle always comes in first place. It it Warick not Warwick you don't pronounce the second W, nor does Warwick Davis.

Another ISIS Wikipedia: "The Isis" (/ˈaɪsɪs/ EYE-siss) is an alternative name for the River Thames, used from its source in the Cotswolds until it is joined by the Thame at Dorchester in Oxfordshire. The modern form of the name, first recorded c.1540,[a] relates to the Egyptian goddess Isis.[b] The deity was venerated throughout the Roman Empire, and was worshipped at the Temple of Isis - near the Thames in Londinium - during the Roman occupation. Notably, the Isis flows through the city of Oxford.
