Bit of backstory; During WWI late in the war Germany was experiencing supply problems, this lead to a lot of front line units not having food essentially. So to draw out enemies Canadians would throw cans of food over, at first it's literally just canned food. Then the next time they throw some, its a can but it's empty and when the German goes to grab it the Canadians either shot them or as shown here throw whole ass grenades at them.

As a Canadian, I think I know what this is referring to: During the first world war, where Canadian troops were fighting the Germans in the trenches, the Canadians did something that is still one of the most brutal moments in war. They threw cans of food at the Germans to gain their trust, but when the Germans asked for more food, the Canadians threw grenades at them.

The Canadians in WW1 were brutal, far more than they were in WW2. They ended up as elite storm units, and were known for not taking prisoners and for using basically every opportunity to commit acts of questionable legality. During the famous Christmas 'truce' they machine gunned the Germans who came out and then grenaded their trenches.
