To all who want to know if Québec helps other provinces in case of forest fires, the answer is yes. We help in USA, Central America, South America and Europe too. Forest fires have no race, no religion, no langage, no culture. It is just our human duty to help others when needed.

@fromagefrizzbizz9377Күн бұрын
@@normanddionne57 Probably not. Larger aircraft are FAR more difficult for both the scooping and drop operations. The CL's rapid turn around is simply incredible (in ideal conditions less than 90 seconds), and when it comes right down to it, it can deliver more water faster than just about anything else. A four engine aircraft would not be able to use some of the smaller or more obstructed water sources the CL215/CL415 can. This is what you get from a purpose-built aircraft. While the Martin Mars is an magnificent machine, it is NOWHERE near as efficient as CL415s at delivering water, unless you have to go very long distances to scoop. Of all the water bombers in the world, only the Martin Mars (of which only two ever operated as water bombers), the CL 215 and CL415 and the Russian BE 200 currently "scoop". The rest have to land at an airport to pick up water.

@@crazyralph6386 always looked so painful to me when larger modified aircraft were used for it, like a DC10. I will never forget the horror of seeing a converted c130 (Hercules) have its wings snap off. The last aircraft you’d expect that to happen. I subsequently found out that very old C130s were notorious for mainspar corrosion, and that is impossible to fix except by replacing the aircraft. I would bet that was at least 20-30 years old, decommissioned by the military and resurrected as a water bomber without fully recognizing the damage. Water leaks and high stress maneuvering eventually killed it and it’s crew.

They have a range of about 2400 kilometers and it’s roughly 4200 kilometers between Quebec City and Los Angeles. It has a long range cruise speed of 280km/h. Commercial aircraft fly at an average speed of 850 km/h. It takes roughly 6 and a half hours to fly from Montreal to LA so, time in the air for the CL-415 would be over double that. With stopover and refueling, I’d guess that it would take them 15, maybe 16 hours. Could be more. Edit: So, I just checked FR24 and it seems that they flew from Quebec City to Columbus, Ohio(3:46 flight time). Then flew to St. Louis(2:35 flight time). Next, they flew to Scottsbluff, Nebraska(4:15 flight time) and, most recently, to Boise, Idaho(3:46).They departed Quebec City at 2:18pm ET on Jan. 15 and made it to Boise by 8:30pm Jan.16. Total flight time is 14 hours and 22 minutes to get from Quebec City to Boise, Idaho.

Still a long way off, 2028. Our water bombers are aging and the maintenance is long for each plane. Too bad DeHavilland can't get them out sooner...still 3 years away and they have orders from all over the world for the new DHC-515s.

Two summers go in Northern Québec, fires were burning in the boreal forest up north while snow was still on the ground in mid-April...This is Canada.

Interesting. Where was this while Alberta and BC were burning last summer?

Québec was burning at the same time. But we still manage to send you a couple of them. Where is Alberta on the canadian united front against tariffs?

Darn...do you know how much of the Québec boreal forest was burning last summer?? instead of starting in late May, they started a month earlier, with snow on the ground. Québec unfortunately had the most area burned of any province with 5.2 million ha (13 million acres).

Canada has 64 of these "water bombers", Californaia should purchase at least 10 of these aircraft, at $30 million each, its a great investment, considering the $150 billion to $200 billion in damage from the LA fires.

@cameronens9292Күн бұрын
This is down season for all the planes in all the provinces. So, they do most of the maintenance on them. That way they are ready for our fire season in the spring and summer.
@fromagefrizzbizz9377Күн бұрын
Manitoba uses a private company to supply their (4) CL415s. The issue may be contracts, or, they're scheduled for maintenance/upgrades that preclude their participation, or even LA saying "not yet please". Quebec and Coulson (BC) already have contracts with LA, so requesting them would be much quicker anyway. They may be due to participate anyway, but air safety precludes having too many of them at once. Ontario just sent two CL415s, and I suspect the delay was at least partially at the behest of LA. Or too many of their crews are on a deserved rest from the firefighting season.
@GaisSacredCreationsКүн бұрын
@@fromagefrizzbizz9377 Only the Government of Québec and SOPFEU have a written contractual agreement with Califonia for the past 32 years to send two water bombers every fall until January to help fight the forest fires.
