This arrangement is genius. It's brilliant how they use particular methods to sound like way more than just 5 players- kinda like a barber shop quartet

I really thought this was at least ten people when I had only listened to it.

I have played this...buckle up, it asks for every skill you have. I love the grin on the 1st trumpeters face at 2:45 or so when they pick up the tempo after he starts the fugue. It's cool to hear it played again. It was the first tune I ever heard them play on the original album in the 70's. And it just knocked me out.

Do you know why they smiled?

They are simply the best brass quintet to grace our ears. Always have been, and probably will be.

This is my favorite version of this song. There is nothing more powerful than the sound of brass.
@schon1jc14 жыл бұрын
I wish you all would stop complaining about the last chord and use/non use of vibrato and just appreciate it for what it is, which is another nice arrangement of a great piece. Unless you know if this was at the beginning or end of a long concert where chops were going downhill and thus pitch goes too, or maybe they weren't on their game...just stop talking. About vibrato, this is their interpretation of the piece, so deal with it. Play it your way when you do it. That's the beauty of music.

It's sad to look at this. After watching the Live in Atlanta videos (with them being so young), and then seeing Chuck and Gene up there in their oldies, it jerks a tear. Long live CanBrass!

You have never listened to The Canadian Brass before then. I have heard just about every incarnation of the group since 1978 and that's a brass thing they do.

@chabooga to tell you the truth, the instrument for which this piece was designed, the Wurlitzer Pipe organ, with most of the stops pulled, is WAY more powerful than 1,000 brass instruments all together. 30,000 watt sound systems struggle to replicate the sound of the 64-feet long pipes of the grand wurlitzer.
@WilliamSmith-jf5ko10 жыл бұрын
Such wonderful talent. Although Chuck the tuba guy is now the only original member, a recent live performance I attended proved this group is still at the top.

@Nintendoman851 It's called a Picardy 3rd when there's a major chord at the end of a piece in minor. It's a common baroque technique.

Like playing the piccolo trumpet solo on Penny Lane, being able to handle the trumpet parts of this arrangement has become a rite of passage for trumpeters aspiring to the highest levels of their craft. We saw the Canadian Brass in their first performance with Ryan Anthony (not the performance in this video) and this piece confirmed that he was a very worthy successor to Fred Mills.
