I review the Go Sun solar stove, no fuel, no fire, no smoke, no sound, little smell, cooks relatively fast, but could use several improvements.

My cooker had the scraping tray issue. All it took was a gentle squeeze where the tubes were binding and now the tubes slide in and out without that horrific scraping. This is an awesome cooker. Well worth the price.

Interesting option, for some reason not something that's at the top of my mind when thinking about foodprepare-preparedness ... so tnx to Mat also for bringing this product up, I can see this version is definitely moved forward from the original first types of sun-ovens, and it's definitely something to consider for emergency situations but also perhaps for just cooking during summer ... tnx CP for bringing this vid.

On the pricing: I think the engineering and manufacturing effords that go into the coatings on the mirrors and the vaccum tube coatings as well as the vacuum tube itself are heavily underestimated. :) It looks so easy and smiple that no one thinks about the hidden complexity in this system. Yes, it is pricy, but at the same time it is an early adopter situation from the companies perspective and a rather compliceted manufacturing process.

Hello CP - Another very professional presentation here... as well as really cool ( hot ) topic! I think these are a great innovative design. I love to see things like this, especially "grid down" type items. For me, and at that price, they need to be more practical for more than SHTF cooking needs. But maybe, in a situation where energy costs do greatly increase, something like this may "pay for itself" in energy savings in a very short time I would be more inclined to invest in one. The GoSun Grill is really nice.. and I see as more practical for everyday use... Great Review.. I wish their company great success!

Thanks for sharing. I have been using "American Solar Ovens" for a few years and from what I've seen in your video, I feel like the design of those ovens beats this design on all fronts but the portability. Having a large area for cooking just seems SO much more useful. If you have leftovers in glass, you can just pop them in, you can put a large pot in for a family meal. I'd highly recommend their ovens after having been using them for a while. I also have and use a parabolic solar cooker which I essentially only use for boiling water. I've been meaning to do a video on solar cooking for a bit. I'll try to do that soon so I can share my experience on all this.
@CanadianPrepper
@CanadianPrepper 8 жыл бұрын
+Praxis Prepper Well I think the American solar oven is just a normal solar oven with no innovations added, it is a design that is easy to replicate. It cannot reach nearly the same temps as the go sun and likely not cook as fast. The sophistication of the sun oven is bare bones. I think the go sun is attempting to make something that will cook faster in low light, its just fine tuning the design to make it more practical, really making it larger in scale. I just find those sun ovens to be unimpressive technologically speaking, I mean they do the job, but I think selling them for that price really is hard to justify considering its a box with some aluminum, rubber and glass. I may be wrong...
@PraxisPrepper
@PraxisPrepper 8 жыл бұрын
+Canadian Prepper - I agree with you on the price of the sun oven. I bought the two that I own based on their value to me vs. what they really SHOULD cost given what they're made out of. In fact, the next sun oven I'll own is a very large one that I'll build myself for probably about $40. I also agree that the claimed ability of the go sun oven in "low-light" would indeed be an asset - I'd really be interested in seeing a video of the go sun being used for "night cooking". My mind is just boggled by how that'd be possible. Do they mean above the arctic circle during the summer (meaning, the sun is up all night)? My feeling on the temperatures achievable in the go sun, are similar to the way I feel about a commuter car that is able to drive 300mph or something. That's great, but is it really useful for 99.9% of practical uses. 300-350 degrees is such a perfect temperature for so many uses. I also DO appreciate the simplicity of the classic sun oven design. A lot can go wrong in terms of damage, dirt and dents and the classic oven just keeps cooking. High-tech approaches always unsettle me because they frequently have thinner margins for being abused than "grandma's tech". Thanks again for your video. You really do such great work!

I wonder if the Sunrocket solar kettle can be used for cook food. IT doesn't have a drawer for the food but no major issue. They cost about £25/$36 compared to this costing £229/$279. Its only 0.5l capacity to the Go Sun Sport 1.2l but for that price difference get a few of them.

Kind of wish the tray was non stick and have a coating on the reflectors to prevent scratching. All tho the smell wont give it away... the reflected light might. TFS C.R.

I wonder what will happen if you shine one of those stage light to this thing. Like how fast will it heat up. Cause that light is strong. Btw did you still use this thing? If they made the tube into 2 half cylinder that you can open it up for cleaning or just detach the tube from the kit, I think it would be so much better, not sure in terms of price though.

I have wanted one of these ever since I first saw them. However what stops me was the cleaning aspect. I am glad you brought up this point but wish you had taken it a step further, beyond the bore brush thrusting (sexual joke). I mean, can you remove the mirrors or to rinse must you manipulate the whole thing in the sink? This may seem petty, but the more trouble something is to use (clean) the less apt you are to use it regularly and $270 USD is a tad high for a door stop. Thanx 4 the info

I see quite a few spelling errors on their graphics ("high-strengh", "handel", "visable", "omlet"...). Someone should check over that stuff. Anyway, I like this concept. The tube is crucial. You are not going to be able to cobble your own together at home and begin to achieve this efficiency. Summer or winter should make little difference. All you need is a sunny day. In the northern hemisphere, the sun is slightly more intense in the winter. I suspect if you have rainy weather, your food isn't going to cook.

@CanadianPrepper
@CanadianPrepper 8 жыл бұрын
+Prepare2Survive It will boil water easily it can hit temps in the high 600's so thats nothing really. The problem is the tray is not very conducive to that because its only semi circular meaning lots of that water bubbles out into tube once it starts boiling, so yeah it will boil it but a lot will end up in the tube, so long as you secure a tight seal on the end this will be potable once you remove the trail, but be prepared for spillage if not careful!

With a few mods, that can be a bug out dream, a portable crock pot. You don't really need the big shiny shield, it can be a capped tin tube, with camo coloring. The glass is debatable. The tray can be done away with, all you need is a long fork, you can drink the juices after. Shake a shake a shake... shake a shake a shake... clean. Prepare your evening meal in the morning. Strap that puppy to your backpack, right end up, which side will get the most sun. Cook all day long, your food will be gummable... if I'm not too far out to lunch. This would allow you to shorten the daylight hours needed to set up camp

It's very cool but over priced. You can do similar type of cooking using pyrex canning jars and making an insulated box to contain them. You get better insulation with the box method, you can use wall sheet insulation for this. You can also make much larger reflectors with cardboard and aluminum foil. The best application for solar cookers is doing Slow cooking. You actually don't WANT the temps inside to get that high, 150-180 F is good. Then you make a nice big Stew or Gumbo in a big pot which can serve a family of 6 people easily. You leave it out in the Sun all day, 4-8 hours. Cleaning them is also much easier than this contraption. RE
