Oh god.. I gotta hand it to you guys for eating Balut! Congrats! You have conquered this dreaded delicacy, hahaha! I don't eat it, and many Filipinos also don't eat it, hehe. I just eat the yellow part, and the soup. That is all I eat, and give the chick to my sisters or parents. There is also another one, a duck egg without the chick (called "Penoy"), and that's usually just what I get.

Thank you! It was nerve wracking but it ended up being okay! It really just tasted like a good boiled egg. But I think we would like the penoy one better.. knowing it doesn’t have the embryo would probably make the thought of it easier to stomach 😂🙏🏼

the 16 days is the perfect age for the egg as it still hasn't developed as much, the 21 days is harder to eat because the embryo has feathers and soft bones already. 16 days = delicious eating, 21 days = fear factor.😁

@@iflipover there are older eggs out there that can be bought. i live in Pasig near Pateros where most duck eggs in the metro comes from and they sell a variety. balut sa puti is 16-17 days the beginner friendly one and in my opinion the best one.

@@chino483 Ah, thank you for the info. I guess 16 days is the minimum. I'm also from M. Mla but never really got the hang of balut. Penoy is ok though. I saw a documentary or feature on balut on a tv show a long time ago and I thought I heard them mention 14 days and even then I thought to myself 2 weeks is a long time and thought they already have bones or something.

Balut is just an interesing food to eat and a good experience (depends on where you get it from and how people teach you to eat it). She did an excellent job eating that egg. Thats how its done and thats why she's more on the pleasant side when it comes of describing the experience. I think she would try more in the future now that she knows what to do.
