So far we haven't had to do too much in Canada. We've had laws for pandemic responses since (before) the founding of the country. It's been a long time since we've needed most of them though. The few things passed so far have had limits on them, and I suspect (and am optimistic that) that will continue as things go.

There's no reason to check anything. A test would take a few days to process, but that would be pointless as they're in self-isolating upon arrival. They have mandatory quarantines and if they disobey the quarantine they can be fined up to $1,000,000.00 and get 3 years of prison time. Testing would just be a waste of resources when we have testing capacity issues already.

At night time when there should be a lot of people home, many lights are off. And many of the owners just stay long enough to establish the paperwork, then go home to China. But they have their anchor there should they wish to come back to Canada (for example, maybe in a pandemic?).

It would have been much less expensive and better for everyone if we had focused on forced quarantine for travelers coming into Canada from the beginning. As the situation is now, I'm in favour of strict restrictions and fines to reduce the number of lives lost. There will also need to be a major change to make sure that everyone can get back on their feet quickly and that people aren't suffering financial hardship now and for years to come.

I think there should be warning given by officers, instead of first instance a hefty fine. I truly do not think it will work for long, because people are questioning the decision making. Why declared distancing, while people are on a crowded airplane, elbow to elbow, using same restroom, in a confided area with poor air circulation, be allowed to enter through airport doors. Before they exist those airport doors, they can infected others without knowing. Shame on you Canadian government and the individuals on health ministry board. These are not new rules. This is how epidemics and pandemics were handled before there were vaccines. You are legally required to identify yourself when asked by a police officer, this is not a new rule.

I would think the fine to be set at most $500 maximum to pay for Covid 19 preparation possibly in 2012. What about the officers distributing 3 free cloth masks per person identified or fined? Why is there suddenly no option to waive the fine through community service and not 1 year of jail time!
