Nijjar has a red tape alert currently active in Interpol's website where his citizenship is shown as 'Indian'. Nijjar was caught by Canadian immigration officers initially when he tried to flee to Canada. Then he was caught in marrying a Canadian lady which later Canadian officials disregarded as a 'marriage of convenience'. But there are no records to show that he was ever a Canadian citizen. To clarify, Sikhs are known for their peaceful and honest nature, characterized by hard work. They are respected by all in the general public. What happened in 84 was shameful and that should not have happened. In today's Indian Punjab, there is no significant Khalistan movement; there may be a few sympathizers. Even in Canada, among Sikhs, the number of Khalistan sympathizers is relatively low, possibly around 10,000 at most. I don't object to their right to protest or hold a referendum, as long as it occurs on foreign soil. However, if they resort to violence, there is a clear boundary. Furthermore, India has a history of dealing with Pakistan, which has engaged in similar actions in the past. This is not new for India, and we have experience in handling such situations and governments. Unfortunately, the India-Canada relationship may be adversely affected as a result.

First of all He was a terrorist and on Interpol’s most wanted list since 2015. He has been proven to be involved in several killings in India.
