For the 252 crops, if you have 8 tiles between the canals in a long thin farm, you need an 8x31 area, so 31 tiles from canal at far end to the end of the fertile land, that's a canal 27 tiles long. That gives you 248 in the 8x31 area, and then 4 more for 252 in the 4 tiles from the end of the canal to the edge. So you can repeat this pattern one after another for teff. For indigo it's 27x8, the 4 tiles from the canal end to edge are not used, but I just do the 8x31 and have the indigo and others wrap around like you have above. But if you have room, especially one with a few teff farms, I like the 8x31 areas.

Things tend to complicate when you want to include tractors and Trade Unions. In the later stages of the game a TU for the water pumps themselves can also be useful to increase the number of canals per pump you can build. If as TU has two pumps in its radius the difference is 150 tiles, so quite a bit.

Most record builders I see that do trade unions with the farms in the region only have five or six farms near one... For the most part it's the same layout concept as I show here. It's extremely difficult to get some sort of max farm and tractor layout around a trade union just because of the canals. You kind of just have to fit it in...

@@TakaKZbin Yes, I agree. That's the problem of Enbesa. In my recent games I decided to "cheat" and import the most complex goods for Scholars via Docklands. I saved myself a headache of organising most of the whole crops/production chains in this sector. Oh well...
@Poynting_Vector2 жыл бұрын
@2:48 I would like to add to this by saying that you can hold shift and place more fields than necessary, you still won't get any production boost from it, but it can help when planning for a potential trade union with items that increase or decrease the amount of fields needed.

I know its an rather old video but a really good one thanks. My main complaint about Enbesa and the Canals are that the farm fields cannot cross the canals. Thats a really dumb mechanic and adds so much complexity to it. Because when you actually try to design stuff you always end up with a few fields here and there that doesn't fit. The road is on the wrong side of the canals .... I also don't understand the reasoning behind this. Workers should be able to go over the canals without any issues. Maybe they change this in like S7 or 8. Lets see how much more content we will get.

The debate is whether you want to run your roads along the canals. Otherwise it is a simple decision

love that organic city/farms mesh you did there! absolutely gorgerous! I only can do second variant though, or my perfectionism will suffocate me XD

Fully agree. You can make the canals a lot more complicated than they need to be. They can of course become a handful if you have a weird island or need to fit farms around existing buildings, but the general concept is as simple as you present. People who make their lives more complicated with maximally compact trade union layouts generally also know how to deal with canals, most other players, me included. have no need to worry about such madness.

I think there might be better way. I literally yesterday unlocked this region and started developing first island. Before I wasn't aware of the irrigation system required here. In general I love this whole DLC, the story line and everything is fantastic. So, I think that later I will experiment with aligning the main canal next to the mountains, like people do with railway tracks in the New World due to small sizes of the Islands. This way I could easily lay down parallel canals from that serpentine one with the whole underneath area open for crop fields.

Not every island has features like that though so you have to consider methods that fit more than just a single island.

enbesa is so difficult to grow crops and a large population that you need multiple islands and it's not even worth trying to jampack all this stuff together. also if you notice this guy has 1,000 available canal tiles he's not even showing real examples of a typical campaign playthrough so take it with a grain of salt as it is

And tipps for animal farms? I would let dry space between the "fingers" and put there the buildings + 1 tile for the street.

The biggest issue I think people have with the canals is when the build it and then the farm around it...they don't leave any space for the canal to keep going. They block it off with the farmland they build around it. So don't do that!!!!!

the issue with cannals is not long enough and or bad RNG islands no space to build out anything, your islands have tons of space every time i get to lions zone, all of them are terrible small no space at all like that to build on for every island in the zone, same with new world even worse. Anyone know of a good seed that can be checked for the other zones, not just the main starting zone seed ?? Thats my issue, i dont have even a 20x20 open space to build on all but 1 island in Lions and new world, they are all blocked with rivers and mountains or other unsuable terrain effects.
@razrskyrim84332 жыл бұрын
For the new world there's a mod that reduces the amount of rivers you get, thus having more space to build. You might want to check it out if mods are an option :)
@TakaYouTube2 жыл бұрын
All of the islands in Enbesa are the exact same every single time. There's no variation. The locations may change slightly but the shapes and river alignments are always the same. I have about a dozen different games I can load up and show this on. I also have a 5 million population save that uses the same method of long canal strips with farms built around them... Honestly it just sounds like poor space utilization that you're running into and you just need to work on that. There's plenty of space.
@supertrix66282 жыл бұрын
@@TakaKZbin the islands are the same but their is a pool of islands, about 25ish or more per region, exception is arctic as that is all permantently the same islands pool they never change, only the resources may alter some. all other regions draw from a much larger pool of islands then spawn in a game. this effect is where it happens. if you get 18 islands in old world and the pool it draws from is 30 islands, well this is where it counts because the difference in some of them is huge space wise, vs getting all the more terrible ones with low space use, then add in rivers and such and its just unplayble at that point if the rng is super bad like i keep getting.
