I've said this before, my decision to buy a Spyder was made after finding your Coach Bob !! I've owned mine just over 2 years now and 15k miles and your thoughts are spot on, at least in my experience. It is, and as far as I'm concerned, a dream touring machine and the Spyder will be my forever touring machine, no regrets at all. Knock on wood, I've had zero mechanical or electronic issues as of yet. Yes the dealer service costs are pricey, but fair, and so far I have done all servicing at my dealer (100 miles away) for one main you mentioned, and that is to make sure I have all the latest firmware updates on my Spyder. I greatly appreciate your honest opinions on both the good and not so good points about the Spyder, and in particular about the BRP dealer network issues. Very nice informative video 👊😎👍

Well, I have been looking at these Sypders for over a year and have watched a ton of Coach Bob’s videos and you know that he say’s “Go out and buy the motorcycle of your dreams”! Well I did it. Now am the proud owner of a 2022 Spyder RT Limited. If you want to know everything about one of these machines, this is the place to be. I have rode two wheel bikes since I was a kid and loved them but at 68 it was time to find something more stable and this is it. It really takes some getting used to but the freedom of not having to put your feet down and balancing an 850 lb bike is sooooo nice! Thanks Coach for all the videos! You sure sold me on buying one and so far, loving every mile on it!

I have a Spyder 2015 RTS with almost 60,000 miles on it. No major maintenance except the recommended schedule... the tune up was expense and worth it. As you comment, on the front tires... I am still on the original front tires but I change out my rear tire twice a year. I am on my 4th battery but it is not expense. I always take my bike to the dealer to have the oil change, just for that. My next $500 expense will be the rear shock replacement. Overall, the RTS is a "solid bike" well, the "golden age 2015 - 2019" are solid strong. I do have to say, each BRP dealer... YMMV. Some are bad and some are good. My main mechanic left BRP and opened his own shop. My maintenance is always done by him and 60,000 miles later. She is still going strong. Finding a great mechanic is important.

I am on my 3rd Spyder RT Limited. Started with a used 2011, new 2019 and just recently traded for a 2022. We love it. My wife didn't want me to get another 2 wheel bike and saw the Spyder and the rest is history. We have been in 7 states and love them. One thing that noticed the moment I saw it was the placement of the brake pedal in the 2020 and up models. I love the practical placement of the brake pedal. It reminds me more of being able to slide my foot onto the pedal in stead of having to lift my leg to get to the brake. As my older legs get stiff after time in the seat it is still easy, and to me safer, to be able to slide my foot over to the brake. I agree with you on dealer and BRP being on the same page. Frustrating sometimes. As always a good honest review. Thanks Coach Bob.

I just put my 2022 RT Sea-to-Sky in storage this past week for the winter season. I agree with your assessment of the difficulties between BRP, its dealerships and its customers; they need to improve that. That being said, I am fortunate to have a great dealership, Groupe Contant, that offers excellent customer service, including winter storage at a fair price. You're right; the Spyder is a wonderful touring machine which is why I bought mine even though I'd never thought about getting a motorcycle before. After three months of riding, I had the Baja Ron sway bar installed because our roads here in Quebec are too often poorly maintained and I now feel much safer as the Spyder handles the roads now much better. The only other add-ons were lower front led lights and front wheel led flashers for increased visibility. I had my first 3000 miles maintenance done at my dealership and they did a great job at a fair price, and I wasn't about to start penny-pinching after I bought my Sea-to-Sky. So, after one season of riding, I am very happy and very satisfied with my Spyder as I ended up doing well over twice the mileage I had anticipated (ending with 7000 miles), including my first solo trip in early October of over 1000 miles. The motorcycle of my dreams? Oh, absolutely, and I'm doing it right and having a lot of fun! I can't wait for next spring! Another great video! Cheers Coach Bob!

I went to an RT from a Goldwing because it was just getting too hard for me to handle the 900+ pounds of a 2 wheeler, especially when riding 2 up. The learning curve on the RT was minimal, and I have not regretted it for one second. Its been a bit over one year, and about 7,000 miles and so far not a single problem. I still have to remind myself to ride in the middle of the lane, not in the left third of the lane, but other than that its been great. I no longer worry about the road suddenly turning to gravel, or even dirt. I no longer worry about putting a foot down at a red light and having an oil spot cause my boot to slip and down we go, passenger and all. Giving up leaning in curves was a small price to pay for the positives of this bike. Love your videos.

100% agree with everything stated. The machine itself is very dependable assuming the owner maintains it properly. Most issues are caused by lack of maintenance or adding third party electronics which may have been tested by itself, but not along with all the other electronics people may have added. The BRP communication issue with its dealers and customers is a huge issue. It's to the point that several senior managers at BRP need to be given the pink slip. You cannot continue a successful operation while ignoring your dealers and customers. There are literally thousands of die cast companies across North America that could have been contracted to fill the sprocket backlog. And, don't even get me started on BRP Connect.

This January 2023 will be our 2-year anniversary for owning our 2020 RTL. I have NEVER regretted buying. We are getting ready to turn 10K soon. When we move down to Daytona Beach next year, our plan is to do longer weekend and several weel trips. Comfortable long distance travel is what it's made for. I don't experience the heat issue when sitting still. Perhaps there is a design difference between the 2019 and 2020 models?? To add on to what Spyder Wayne said. Coach it's yours and John's fault for introducing me to the Spyder Line. Thank You!!

I agree it's still a motorcycle however I call mine a Sport Trike as I ride any road tar, gravel or dirt. In fact the only reason I decided to build Sport Trikes is so I could do touring and off pavement exploration. All motorcycles have downsides and heat would be an issue. Fortunately I don't have that issue but still overall the spyder is a definite upgrade over not only backwheel trikes but most motorcycles. My only remaining two wheel cycle is a fat tire ebike. A stiffer anti-sway is probably the #1 upgrade, it's the equivalent to the muffler removal on Harleys. I think it's a good upgrade. Maintenance seems to be a bit high, oil changes are not a slam dunk. Tires are a problem mostly due to overinflating. Done correctly 40k front and back should be normal. Dump the Kenda tire and go with a better automotive radial (the stock Kenda is a car tire, just a bad one) Laser alignment is a rip off and certainly not a viable alignment method. so much of the cost of ownership is paying for unneeded Lizard Lubricates. MPG is not the best but few trikes do better. In general nothing is more fun, more comfortable than a sport trike. As always a great review great video.

Great video Bob. l to enjoy the Spyder with its performance. I also being a full-time rv'er hauling our Can-Am with us. We have had multitude of problems with dealer disconnect on the road. the issue with the pulley we took it in for its checkup which they tested the tolerance and said it was okay but there will be a replacement but that was in the middle of August still have not heard anything back from Can-Am on replacement part. I won't even start on the Can-Am app. Thanks for the update.

havent been her for a while, Coach, but this was a great assessment of th Spyder. I watched your trans-con and north-to-south treks and and love your adventures. I too have to deal with a handicaped rider, dementia in my case. But she loves to read signes, so intown routes are best. I love to see her light up when I mention a ride... I wanted to do a transcontinental ryde, but there it is. We've got 50k+ on our '18 RTL with just those horrendous service charges by the dealers, but its the price of the toy... Very good review, my man...

Crazy about the BRP App, I am on my second Kawasaki Voyager and love it. Only reason I have thought about upgrading to a Harley or Indian is for the built in GPS and I have watched videos, read comments and also know people that say they don`t work that great. Guess I will stick with my phone as well. Nice video!

I came from a Valkyrie std. loved that bike. It was really tricked out. TBR header exhaust, Corbin saddles with backrest that could be positioned for front or rear passenger in seconds. Miss my Valk but a stroke took away my balance. Even regular bicycles are a problem for me now. The Spyder is a dream come true!!! Traction control, stability control, cruse control, ABS! This baby rings all the bells! Plus reverse!! Love my Spyder F-3S!! My Brother just bought a Rocket III, what a honey of a bike! I bit big and heavy but it’s a sweet machine!

A cat delete will take care of most of your heat issue. RLS and Lamonster both sell one. Cat delete, baffle and stock exhaust will drastically reduce your heat while keeping the exhaust noise to a minimum. It will be a bit louder and have a deeper tone, but the trade off is well worth it imo.

I currently ryde a 2021 Sea to Sky. This my 2nd Spyder. The first was a 2014 RT. Both of my Spyders have been very reliable, and maintenance costs have been reasonable. The handling is awesome and it's a great touring trike. I'm with ya on the BRP Connect App. I don't use it due to the fact that it is too wonky. I hope Can Am steps up their communications game with their dealers and customers. See ya on the road!

I have a 2020 RTL and have been fairly happy with the machine. I have not experienced any of the heat issues you mention but perhaps that was sorted out with the 2020 redesign. I also do not use the BRP Connect application. I believe you actually have to purchase the GPS maps if you want to use one of their navigation options? No thanks!! My first service experience with my local dealer (where I purchased the Spyder) was a little disappointing. I had scheduled a service appointment for the first oil change and checkup (at 3000 miles) and asked them to check on an intermittent vibration in the rear end. They informed me that there would be a $140 charge to take a look. When I reminded them that the machine was brand new and actually had a 3 year warranty (1 extra year as I bought their last new 2020 in 2021 so the extra year was part of that promotion) they basically said the warranty was between me and BRP and that they had to pay their own technicians to investigate? It was the weirdest conversation I think I have ever had at a dealership. I have been fortunate enough in my many years to have purchased several brand new vehicles (cars, trucks boats, motorcycles etc.) but have never heard of such a policy. Eventually I found the owner of the dealership and we had an adult conversation about the policy and they agreed to remove the charge. Bottom line though is I now don't really want to go back there. Just an awful first impression and I have not been back there since. The sprocket recall is another fuzzy issue. For some reason the 2020 and up are not included in the recall. My early 2020 had the older black sprocket installed and I can't seem to locate any information on why the newer machines are not included in the recall. After all of this though I would buy it again. My wife loves it too so that's a win/win for sure :). Thanks CoachBob.....enjoyed your video as always!!

Good one Bob, and I totally agree with your thoughts and presentation. BRP could sure as Hell do a better job of interacting with the dealers and customers. BRP Connect sucks and a useless program, I don't know why it's even there. Like you, I still love my spyder.

I haven't noticed the heat because I've always thought it was a byproduct of the 100 degree plus day. However, through your tutelage, I've progressed from a slow and nervous rider to a full-blown hooligan at age 68. I live less than 6 miles from the beginning of the mountains, lakes, canyons, and twisties in my part of Colorado. Occasionally, though very rarely, I'll just cruise but usually I'm totally misbehaving on my 19 RTL. These things will blow your mind once you've learned what they can actually do. I typically do between 100-150 miles each day and try to do each curve/turn/twistie differently. I will say once you've mastered trail braking and increasing acceleration concurrently, a whole new world opens up. There is no end, it seems, to the learning curve on these, I constantly become aware of new possibilities and they all increase my joy on a daily basis. If your own the fence about purchasing one, jump in the water is refined.

Coach Bob I agree with most of what you say except for the heat. If I compared of my Harley FXRT 1988 the heat is way more on my Harley, in stop and go (and under 20 mph) than it is on the Can Am 2014 RTL. I think the heat problem is more what you're riding than anything else. On hot days my right leg on my Harley can get so hot that I swear I'm getting blisters. I've road my Spyder over 14,000 miles and so far, I have no complaints of the heat on my legs or any body part. I love all my Motorcycles. But would not ride as many miles as do at age of 69 if I did not have a Spyder.

I agree with your assessment of the manner that brp handles their customers. I purchased a 2022 RTL the beginning of June and in the middle of Oct I had a problem with the battery that was installed by brp. The dealer I had purchased it from has been fabulous in caring for me but because of the policies of brp, they could only replace the cheap chinese battery with an identical battery! Unfortunately, these are on backorder with no estimate for delivery! My contact with brp has been frustrating because they refuse to grasp the concept that they don't manufacture batteries (or tires) and if they were committed to customer satisfaction they would have authorized a Yuasa replacement. They also refused to have a field rep meet with me and the Dealer Principal (auto manufacturers do this ALL THE TIME!) Waiting for further action on brp's part but I bought one from Lamonster and got back on the road Love the RTL and enjoy riding with my bride

Amen Coach Bob. Well done! I agree with Spyder Wayne, you had a big part in my purchase decision as well. I had a recent warranty issue which I discussed with others but I will recap it here. BOTH side bag latches snapped off at the same time. Apparently water causes the cables to rust and BRP also zip ties them in such way as to cause a 90 degree pinch point to add to the tension they are under. Good news: BRP did repair it under warranty. Bad News: BRP has a policy that the bike stays in the shop while under warranty work. I got a local place (actually a tractor supply store) do the work and they let me have the bike back on the weekend to ride while we waited on the replacement cables. Unfortunately they were "Covid slow" took a total of 4 weeks to replace. I also got multiple calls from BRP wanting me to give them a review but they offered no help in actually getting the repair accomplished or answer the questions I had. Huge disconnect with the customer and my nearest dealer is 2 hours away. One guy (we both know) waited 5 weeks on a cosmetic light (Warranty) fix. That is insane. We should be able to ride the bike at least while waiting on the parts. I understand if the bike has to be stripped down for a power train issue. There is a lot of labor involved in that. But my latches and our friends light bar, no reason we cant still ride the bike. The BRP software is the worst! Unusable. Other than that, I am VERY happy with my 2021 RT.

One thing it seems to be with Harley is there's not as much issues with their dealers. They seem to have more information and knowledge of the company and the vehicle. AMAZING....yep, yep, yep...Coach Bob, I could not agree more!! Touring BEAST!! Heat is an issue but I try not to think about it. And I have less plastic than you but still. Not a deal breaker for me either! I've gotten 15K out of my stock rear tires and it is right in line with TommyG's Dunlops for his HD. I have a big 50K maintenance coming up in the spring and I will be trusting Ryan at Motorsports of Hanover to complete that. We are planning on Alaska in the spring and I want to make sure my Spyder is in tip top shape! I was a little bit nervous traveling across the desert too but had no issues...someone else did lol. And yes, sounds like there is a BIG disconnect. Hopefully customer service becomes more important to BRP than it has thus far.

My Indian (sadly traded in for RT Limited) was hot. So hot they turn off back cylinder at idle when outside temp is above 68. I'm still learning my 2022 can am and one thing you don't mention...The crown. 2 wheels a really crowned road you can get to one side or the other. This sits on the crown like a bubble. Turn a tiny bit and you are slid towards the curb or oncoming traffic. Makes me grip a little tight. I know I'll adjust but it's simple. The back wheel is dead center so a crowned road you are on it. Not a big deal in Florida but Tristate (OH, KY and IN) we have lots of back roads with crowns.

I used my iPhone for a while, but, eventually went with the Garmin Zumo XT and never looked back. The 2024 models have Apple CarPlay and the display is excellent. So, BRP/Can-Am is moving in the right direction. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Sorry, I forgot to talk about maintenance. I take all my vehicles to their perspective dealerships fairly often. So, too, with the Spyder. Anytime I'm hitting the road, or exploring out in the boonies I have them gone through and any repairs, adjustments, etc handled immediately. I have really gotten to know, trust, and build great rapport with the dealer, the mechanics; the entire crew. I spend a little money but it buys me total confidence in my machine and I relax fully into excursions. The back tire was $524.00 all in but it's cheaper than skin and another thing I can forget about.

I agree 100 percent about the dealer support... not very comforting.... I had a 2020 RT that I loved to ride. It was very dependable with decent gas mileage. The only real nitpicks I had was that the paint scratched real easily, the panels were a real pain to remove and reinstall for servicing, the switches had a real mushy feel to them and the dash computer was kinda unreliable. As far as handling it gave a very smooth ride but going into long sweeping turns on a less then perfect road the entire machine seemed to fight to find a track to hold a smooth line through.

I have got to add my opinion here comparing the two different trikes i just bought a 2022 spyder rt limited I built this electric trike they both weight the same and have similar HP even though the torque is dubble that of the spyder. My greatest issue is the braking on the spyder by comparison doing 40 to 50 MPH and stomping on the brakes really hard for the spyder it will drift left to right depending on the road. the traditional two wheels in the back doing the same test will track straight and stop much sooner without white knuckling. as far as my opinion on power to weight ratio find the spyder is way to under powerd in 1st gear till the revs get into the 3000 range it gets better but very disappointing. So disappointing sent out the ECU on a bike that has 100 miles on it. The good side is love the looks

Curious how the wind noise is?

Every RT I have ever ridden, regardless of year or where it fall in the RT lineup, is very quiet. Think "Goldwing" quiet. The wind noise levels are superlative, which for me, makes my tinnitus less problematic on the long days.

@CoachBob3 Tinnitus is my issue. It is triggered by wind noise. Can you create a very quiet "cone of silence" with the windshield up on the highway? I have had bike with electric shields like my BMW r1200rt, but the noise at speed was terrible

my 2 biggest complaints on my 2022 RTL is the heat and the seat. i will be replacing the primary muffler (it's what BRP calls it) with a baldwin iron works pipe. the seat is way to firm and has little to no give , you would think under my 264 pound backside it would break in.... nope it has zero give, i'll be looking into mustang seat or corbin. now a what i find an annoyance how in the name of planet earth do bugs splatter on the INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD .

A Corbin seat will be much firmer than the factory Can Am seat. I don’t know what you expect a motorcycle seat to feel like but I can tell you that it’s never going to feel like your riding in a Buick. Maybe try a sheepskin seat cover for more added plushness. I’ve never witnessed seeing any insect splatter on the inside of my windshield on my 2021 RTL or my wife’s 2022 RTL but that does sound sort of a weird phenomenon you encountered.😂

@@heystarfish100 i had a mustang seat on my Harley Road Glide and did back to back iron butts. i put over 110K miles on that seat. i expect all day comfort or maybe i'm just getting old

I have a 2019 Spyder RT and under the seat on the right side there is a sticker that provides me with the BRP recommendations. Which is what I am using. The recommended front cold air pressure is 22psi and the rear is 30psi. That's what I am running. Thanks for the question.

The way it works is the way you did it. With recall paperwork in hand you head to the dealership. I think whats going on is the dealer of doesn't have the parts yet. You might not know this put even if they had the part for you they might not install the part unless you fail they inspection. That's a head scratcher. I don't think their is a disconnect its just business and the consumer is on the bottom.

2022 S2S .. BRP App not good I like the ride better than my 2006 Wing with a 2012 Champion Independent Suspension Conversion The brakes are better on the S2S I wish the cruise control would work around an up shift. If I had it set for 65mph and was going through a 30mph zone, then back to 65, every time I change a gear it knocks off the cruise setting

Can someone tell me if a 2019 rt limited for 20,750 Is a good buy in marketplace?
@CoachBob3
@CoachBob3 Жыл бұрын
If the mileage is low and the condition is perfect.. that is probably about right in todays used market. Although for me it would be difficult to pay that much. Because, It is the older body style and there were a lot of other changes made in the performance of the Spyder in 2020. If I could find a 20 for the same price..I would. BTW.. I own a 19 and love it. But, it was an odd year and aftermarket accessories are a hassle at times.
