This may perhaps be my favourite city on earth. Very tranquil national capital. No noise, no overcrowding of sorts, no skyscrapers. Just a very well laid out and nicely developed city. If I ever relocate to Australia or even think of visiting for vacation, Canberra will be at the top of my list. Citizens and residents of this city must be so happy to wake up to this every day of their beautiful lives

I hope Canberra follows the path of Vienna, like the original plan, and then it can be very sustainable as it grows for everyone's well-being (and skyscrapers can remain to exist only in the satellite towns)

Lovely work. Captions: 1. National Arboretum - forest park that replaced a former pine forest. 2. Australian War Memorial - A museum built after WW1 in Byzantine style, to commemorate the Gallipoli campaign. 3. Lakeside recreation, yacht club. 4. Old Parliament House, Parliament House, Aboriginal Tent Embassy. 5. High Court, lakeside. 6. National Library. 7. John Gorton Building, Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment. Almost unbelievably, many years ago when this was the Attorney General's department, someone penned a poem about this building. They claimed 'it neither squats nor towers'. 8. Commonwealth Park. 9. Kingston Foreshore. 10. The Carillon, a bell tower, a gift of the British government and people. 11. Final shot tilts up to show the Department of Defence complex. The high column at the centre axis is a memorial to the American alliance in WW2.

The original plan definitely would have been the best of all worlds, but bureaucrats smothered it and tried to create something of mediocrity. Its good parts though are good, including the landscape

@@ricohact not when your drone weighs less than 250g
@ricohact2 жыл бұрын
@@AshBirch The aviation authority ruled drone users must not fly within 30 metres of people or over people and must be within line of vision - that is, drone users must be able to see their drones with their own eyes and not through a device. Drones weighing more than 100g must keep a distance of 5.5km from any helicopter landing site and controlled aerodromes including hospitals and airports. Mr Will said, "The best place for drone flying is a local park, reserve or sports oval - one that provides for the 30-metre rule to be obeyed. "Canberra as a location for flying drones is a blessing and a curse, there are a lot of recreational spaces to fly safely but it can be a windy place, and many Canberrans live within 5.5km of Canberra Airport. And if you're thinking of flying your drone around Canberra's landmarks, such as the Parliament House, National Museum of Australia, or the war memorial - think again. Many of these landmarks are within the 5.5km distance from Canberra airport and Canberra hospitals.
@AshBirch2 жыл бұрын
@@ricohact you might want to go back and check the regs buddy its 250g and I was not even close to being 30m near anyone or flying over anyone. DJI software won’t allow you to fly in no fly zones. Typical of KZbin comments Everyone’s an expert keyboard warrior without actually being there in person witnessing the flight.

Should be seen by every Australian who ignorantly abuses "Canberra", without understanding that the national government making national decisions is NOT the same as the city of Canberra. But the very lazy media persist in using that shorthand for that national government - elected by Australians to represent them. In Canberra - the national capital in the national interest.
@frankryan25053 жыл бұрын
Im happy for it to remain a "backwater" crowds would spoil the place imho.
@betula21372 жыл бұрын
@@frankryan2505 Well, if Canberra were split into proper villages with density diversity, then it would save itself of crowds into the future The worst things are car-dependence though, so having a people-based place to live in the countryside but with full amenities and choice is possible
