Canceling Spectrum Charter Internet for Starlink gen 2! THANKS, Elon Musk! Unboxing - speed test

After an extended time on the waiting list due to COVID delays, the Starlink has arrived in the shop! It actually turned out for the best since by the time I got it I received gen 2. It includes everything you need to get up and streaming right out of the box.
So you may ask "what about Starlink is Old School?" and you're right, it's mostly Fresh... Like, REALLY Fresh! but there is something Old School about saying "Bye, Felicia" to the cable company. Making moves to get out of the mainstream and pick a different path. Going solo. This thing should even work on overland adventures into the wilderness so, yeah. Fresh Old School!

It took about 20 months to get mine, 14 months after paying the deposit. Im happy with it compared to the two 4g accounts that we had, canceled one, keeping one as a backup for now. I imagine we'll cancel the second one as well in a couple of months. 3:39 of down time over the last day is acceptable. I was only online once when it went down for under a minute. My speeds are about the same 80 to 130 down 8-10 up. Its definitely a life changer out here in a remote forest in Michigan.

It’s nice to have alternatives. When big companies have you stuck they don’t seem to care as much about your experience. When you can withhold your business and take your money elsewhere someone will hopefully sit up and notice!

They should give you a pretty accurate estimate if you go to their site and plug in your address. Mine was over a year but a lot of that was COVID.

Starlink is easily matching our Charter even on overcast days. 110-120Mbs down, 8-15 Mbs up on average. I've had Charter forever and am happy to finally have an alternative. Also, the starlink can run using a battery backup so it doesn't have to go down during a power outage. There's also an expectation that starlink will soon get in the smartphone/cellular game. Then it'll be time to break up with ATT next.

Spectrum is that best cable service in the world. Irate customers don't understand the technical terms and refuse to corporate with rentention so we can't service them. Brain gave us all a bonus for perfect attendance in July. I work in the new spectrum office in overland park.

Funny because after I canceled (2hr call) I never got a confirmation and as my billing cycle was approaching I had to call again and REcancel. Finally they sent me confirmation. Then a month later they sent me a bill for “unreturned equipment”. AKA my 15 year old modem? Funny they never mentioned the TWO times I canceled that they wanted that back. I’ve talked to Spectrum employees locally that said there’s no chance they want that back for any reason. Haha. Just wanted $60. Yeah, good luck. Hope you don’t ever have a work related accident and wind up on their less than happy side.

@@FreshOldSchool Well when you call spectrum you need to be transferred to rentention which has all the knowledge of equipment. When you use generic modems it might not show up on our system and when retention offers you bundles you should except it because it says you money and gets your off ACSR and onto agent Os which qualifies you for free Ulta speed. The people at the store often tell customers false info because they only create accounts not deal with the arguments. Brian himself gave us all bonus for perfect attendance in July in rentention. Spectrum has incredible benefits and vacation time.

I’ve had it for months and it’s been going strong. No issues. I love it.
