I took my second cancer journey video in the hospital a few days after starting my first dose of chemo. This shares my initial feelings after starting chemotherapy, as well as my first side effects. My specific combination of meds is called DCF. My largest side effects were neuropathy, peeling hands, and dry mouth and then later on really bad mouth sores.
These are some of the things I used to help with the side effects from the chemotherapy.
Suzipads Ice Packs for Neuropathy- amzn.to/496VwQ7
Wrist Ice Pack- amzn.to/46RsOAw
Biotene Dry Mouth Rinse- amzn.to/46uUviK
Nipple Butter (used for dry hands)- amzn.to/46HlWWE
Van Man Beef Tallow- amzn.to/48LbM90

What an example in strength and resilience baby girl's getting from her mom. I wish the example wasn't necessary, but since the challenge is here uninvited: you both are rising to it with grace. May treatment side effects be as minimal and the succes be as great as possible. Rooting for you both!

@@mayaluna11 She's not still pregnant!! Her daughter has been delivered and is now in the NICU. , WHY is she having to be unhooked from her IV's and gowned up to see the baby , if she's still in the womb?🙄🤔

I'm a Neonatal nurse. Your baby is now at some risk of picking up an infection. There are viruses' and bacteria in Hospital Units , even coming through the heating/ air conditioning systems. That's just the way it is. A fact of life in every single Hospital environment and Ward and, indeed, everywhere we go outside too .They decided delivery was the best route for her, at her current size and gestation, so she wasn't affected by chemotherapy drugs in any way. In balance, that WAS the best thing to do for her! NOW they have to treat , and protect her, as if she were still in your womb . Meaning, (1) supporting her to develop her feeding reflexes, ( that CANNOT BE TAUGHT) It will develop in your baby's own time and is often 1 step forward and 1step back. It takes patience on the part of the parents! (2) To maintain her temperature within normal range. (3), To try to prevent infection when handled....so, you need to be gowned up, if that's your particular Hospitals' policy for Neonates. Also, and very importantly, patients receiving Chemotherapy have a very reduced Immune System so are at considerable risk of getting Infections. The gowns may well be necessary to protect YOU from picking up an infection. There is so much that is normal and routine to us, as Staff who are experienced and know about Neonatal Care Or Oncological Care. Ask THEM about the many things you don't understand, rather than questioning it on your Vlogs . That way you'll, hopefully, gain more knowledge and peace of mind , regarding you and your daughter's care. You need to learn to question more as you've got a long journey ahead. Not questioning your symptoms, in exactly the same way, actually delayed your diagnosis. You need to know how to advocate for your own body, and learn what/why things are happening around you. I hope you're able to rest and sleep really well, and that the remainder of your Chemo is as comfortable as possible for you. Hope your baby is soon thriving and beginning to regain her weight.( It's normal for babies to lose weight, then regain it again)

The timing of this must be so overwhelming. Bad enough having cancer but at this crucial time just makes it so much more challenging. But one day you will look back and be amazed to see how you came through it.

I'm sorry you've also joined the cancerstyle club. I'm terminal, spinal cancer and fractured vertebrae and sternum. Bone cancer with mets galore t/out my body. Please take comfort in knowing you are not alone. The cancerstyle (lifestyle) is full on with good and bad days. If you need to cry, cry. If you need help, reach out, help in the support has been extremely challenging for me as I'm socially isolated so I have that extra challenge but going onto antidepressant and valium for anxiety have helped me a lot. I keep you and your family in my prayers 🙏❤🇦🇺🌻

Ya all the cancer stories are popping up. I’m so thankful to lea of all this cancer happening to us in the world and it’s hard to hear it but we are aware this way. Many cancer journey videos I’m following, please stay positive one persons journey has been not at all like they said it would be at all, they told her she had a year to live and that can’t ever be a sure thing because God decides that not Science or Doctors.

Praying for you, your baby and husband. So glad your baby is strong. My husband helped his brother with holding his daughter skin to skin in NICU when she was born 2 months premature. Her mother had a medical emergency that was the reason for early delivery and she was not able to care for the baby until she was well. That baby is now a very healthy 24 yo teacher. I pray for your healing and for your doctors to make the right decisions. God bless.

It's scary seeing anyone have to go thru this, esp someone as wonderful as you. I am tho, really really glad that baby girl is showing her strength. Maybe her strength can help make you stronger so you can beat the heck out of this nasty disease. Remember to always take lots of pictures; just for a worse case scenario, so babygirl can see how strong you were for her and the rest of your family. Watching it more - its so relieving to hear that your husband is being strong and supportive throughout this whole ordeal!!! We are all here with you. ❤❤❤ Sending you much love Edit- do you have a gofundme or something so followers can help donate to cover any costs you might be facing currently???

Chemo is accumulative, so the more cycles the more concentrated are the side effects. Congrats on your baby daughter, not easy to be apart from her especially going through cancer treatment but inbetween infusions is a good compromise. Hang in there beautiful and congratulations on the birth of your baby girl. Melanie, my brother is doing chemo. The doctors told him during chemo and a few days after treatment, not to drink, eat or touch anything cold. He is not even to get anything out of the refrigerator without wearing a protective glive to keep his skin from making contact with cold objects to prevent neuropathy. Please ask your doctors and nurses if you should be using icepacks or drinking and eating cold things. It is known as Chemo Induced Peripheral Neuropathy or CIPN.
@melaniefostersnavely
@melaniefostersnavely Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I will ask about that. I was told to use the cold packs to prevent the neuropathy. Maybe it depends on which drugs they are using for your chemo 🤷‍♀️ I was told to keep the cold on throughout the two first drugs that are part of my cocktail as it keeps the nerves from getting affected. but I will definitely double check on that! Thank you. So sorry to hear your bother is battling as well.

Chemo is cumulative. From a nursing perspective I can say that I advise my patients to take full advantage of their entire prescribed dosages of scheduled meds and PRN meds because breakthrough symptoms, especially pain, can be a nightmare to bring back down to your therapeutic levels and omg it'll wear your body down something awful to experience a spike in symptoms. I can't imagine you're instinct as a new mother and the desire to be with your precious little girl every chance you have just remember that you're health, rest, and healing is priority so you'll NEVER miss a milestone throughout her life and what a better time, to go through the worst time, than now when she's tiny and won't remember when mommy was kicking cancers @$$ ❤

Thank you for sharing this, yes took all my premeds and trying to stay on top of the meds they've prescribed for while I am home on the pump. The premeds yesterday (started round 2) knocked me out and I slept through the night. Grateful for a supportive husband who took all her night feeds. He said I didn't even stir while she cried when he was changing her. I know I need to take care of myself to take care of her later, but it can definitely be hard in the moments where I just want to be helpful now. But we are taking it one day at a time and I am doing my best to kick this thing in the A$$! Thank you for your encouragement and reminders to stay on top of my meds!

I know this has to be very difficult! I’m a very hands on mom, even now that my daughter is almost 13, and I also a nurse and currently fighting stage iv metastatic breast cancer that has been a complete bi**h the entire time! I’m also very type a and prefer to do all of the things and am not a medication person either. I do have to agree with this poster though just on the subject of chasing side effects of you miss meds. It’s so hard to try to take the edge off after pain and or nausea breakthrough(for example). It may take some time, but you will learn through trial and error what works for you. If you find the time, watching KZbinrs who are going through what you’re going through or just cancer in general have been a huge help for me. Hearing experiences first hand and what they do to try to combat different side effects and stresses and emotions etc has really helped more than reading articles about it. ❤

Congrats to your little family. I had a tumor that filled the left sinus and I too fought nausea and dizziness after the surgery. I wanted to share that I was able to get some relief using almond oil with a few drops of essential peppermint oil. I then put it into a glass roller ball applicator and would put on my t-shirt collar, wrists, etc. to allow to waft in the air - it was very effective. I ordered all via Amazon (saw you have some stuff listed from Amazon). Also, Biotene has toothpaste that is excellent along with a soft childs toothbrush. Wishing you well. Colette

I don't know you, but I am so proud of you and how you are handling this really awful bump in the road! When I was with my best friend a few years ago as she went through chemo the one thing we found that worked to mitigate mouth sores was keeping ice chips in her mouth during chemo treatment. Prayers, Denise

Thank you Denise, someone else said the same thing so we got a nugget ice maker for the house (I’m home on a pump infusion for the next 5 days) and I’m going to be an ice fein all day.
