The British version of Candid Camera did this prank in 1974 about 15 years before this one. The British version was funny because the elevator supposedly traveled between the first and third floors without stopping at the second floor, which was the intended destination, and every time the elevator doors opened the same prankster would be standing outside the elevator on both the first and third floors, confusing the person being pranked even more.
@peterfunt8622Күн бұрын
Sorry to quibble, but the British version of our show was licensed by us and used gags we developed. The first elevator gag was done on our U.S. show in 1965; another version was done in 1965. -Peter

Reminds me of when I was a kid in the 70s and I used to hang out on top of the elevators in our apartment building in NY City, it was a 22 story building and I discovered the elevator doors had a little roller that hit a switch, and I figured out that when the car slowed down and was about to stop and open the door, if I tripped that roller the mechanical floor selector computer in the basement would reset, "forget" the floor it was supposed to stop and, and go back to park on the ground lobby floor LOL! So I remember one guy wanted to go to around the 20th floor and as the car was slowing down I tripped the door roller and the elevator went all the way back to the lobby, so the guy tried again, same thing happened, the 3rd time as it headed back down he pushed a lower floor button and got off there, I guess to walk up ;) I later got off on a different floor than ours because my shoes had oil/grease on them that left footprints, so I walked up to the nearest apartment door leaving oily footprints to the door mat, took my shoes off and went back to our floor.
