Moderation my friend. Remember when you had to wait till next week to see, what are they going to do now? Anticipation, excitement, Mom would make popcorn in a skillet. Great memories...

People smoked almost EVERYWHERE back then, on airplanes, in your hospital room, hospital and doctor’s office waiting rooms, just about everywhere but school (unless you were a teacher) and church. Heck, I even remember as a kid in the 50s our doctor smoking while he was consulting with us in his office!

@@Paladin70 I remember a judge having a big cigar while on the bench. And there was a spittoon on the floor nearby.

I was a kid growing up in the 50’s & 60’s. It was common knowledge (at least to me) that cigarettes caused cancer, emphysema and heart disease. Even smokers referred to them as cancer sticks and coffin nails. Tobacco companies gave free cigarettes to actors so they would be seen smoking in movies and TV programs. There was no limitation on cigarette advertising in magazines, TV, etc. Any one could buy cigarettes from vending machines. Children were given packs of candy cigarettes so they could pretend to smoke like their parents. I recall nagging my father to quit smoking but he was unable to quit. He died at 61 years of age of lung cancer. In his last couple days, he said that he had gambled and lost. I believe people should have the freedom to smoke if they want but I am really glad now not having to deal with second hand smoke in public places.

Born in 1960 in Boston I remember I loved this as a kid, today's cameras everywhere world is so alien to me, I don't like it, no privacy, everyone's got their own videos, it's so weird. But this show was a classic, it was hugely popular. Thank you, I'd forgotten about it, it's been 50 something years since I've seen this, I'm having a flashback.

Pretty much! The armrest on airplanes had built-in ashtrays, every house had an ashtray and a cigarette lighter on the coffee table. I’m glad those days are gone.

He ended up offing himself because he thought he was losing his mind. His family then sued Candid Camera for 20 million bucks and WON. LOL! Of course this is not true. This reminds me of the video where the guy in line at a convenience store keeps seeing "death" standing behind him in line on the security monitor, but when he turns around, it's just a farmer looking guy who winks at him. The guy is visibly shaken.
