FYI candidate Rubio: No,It didn’t take “decades” to get where we are now. It started in 2015 when tent living on city sidewalks was bizarrely legalized (by Tina Kotek and others…) that’s less than ten years. Prior to 2015 this city was a dramatically different place.

I think this (referring to taking decades) also includes things like the addition of the fair cloth amendment that bars federal funds to support the aid in producing public housing which happened in the 90s. I think what she is referring to is that there are many things that have contributed to this city's current condition. I think the Safe Sleep Policy you are referring to might not have had the support that is needed (lowering rents, providing support services, jobs programs) to help folks get back on their feet.

Why are you catering to drug addicts that have absolutely no desire now or in the future to find jobs. They are only concerned on where their next fix is coming from. Jobs everywhere. Almost all business are understaffed. So don't treat them like poor misunderstood victims. My buddy has gone thru 3 or 4 treatment programs to keep from going to jail. Incarceration was the only way he got straight. The fear of having to back to jail is why he is straight now.

They spend so much time speaking about homelessness. The issue is drug addiction and mental health If you want to sleep on a sidewalk- no one cares. We have always had homeless but it was still safe and no tents and camps taking over neighborhoods and the sidewalks. Most homeless now are groups of addicts and mentally ill people who should be mandated into treatment, sent back to their home state or go to jail if you broke the law. They do not want shelters. They like being on the street bc it’s easy for them to use drugs None of these people have any real understanding of addicts. Many of them have access to treatment and families they can go home to and they choose to be on the street instead. Giving addicts resources is never going to work unless they go through a long process of recovery and take slow steps to learn how to be a responsible adult. They’re like children, you have to let them do it but you need to chaperone them and hold them accountable

Portland's homelessness isn't so much a housing crisis as it is an addiction and mental illness crisis. HB 4002 will have a positive impact in reducing unsheltered homelessness in Portland and other Oregon cities. I realize this isn't a politically correct viewpoint, but I believe it to be the stark and unvarnished truth. Time will tell, but I'm optimistic.

Perhaps is housing was more affordable then we wouldn't see so many homeless. How many are living on the edge of poverty? How many are 1 paycheck away from joining the homeless population? So many issues but affordability is an issue that fuels homelessness.

Keith Wilson is the only one in the top 3 who isn’t already working in government. His opponents allowed the homelessness crisis to happen under their watch, so why would things change if they become mayor. Keith is also the only one with a real solution, as we can see in his nonprofit Shelter Portland.

Vote wisely. Do detailed homework. There is a massive amount of political propaganda with no plan of action in three of four candidate discussion. Several are useless. All advocated drug decriminalization, defunding the police, pro crime, and homelessness as a "way of life" to some of extent. Few fought to unify government, but fractured the system further. Dysfunction. Military leaders have a different adage from history, "We solve problems, not create new ones."

It's amazing to me how essentially all these candidates fail to assess the problem correctly. I live in Washington and it's the same here. How do all these politicians not know how to solve the majority of the problem? The overwhelming part of the homeless population in these states, is not from these states, they're from California. California has been giving bus tickets, out of state, to their homeless for over 15yrs now. Want to know why these homeless folks are so troubled? Originally the program was intended to keep their most troubled homeless from ending up permanently in their prison system. So, if they were on their Third Strike they got offered a ticket out of state in the hopes they would get better help than they were getting in California. Tickets are also offered to anyone that was seeking better help of course. But, you have to wonder how it is that all these politicians don't realize you have to stop the source, or you problem is going to continue. Wa and Or don't have the resources to solve California's homeless problems. wake up people!
